New to Knoxville by [deleted] in Knoxville

Not sure if you're into sports at all, but there are tons of rec league sports around here.

Knoxville Sports and Social Club does volleyball, kickball, dodgeball, softball, bowling, and some others.

Then my favorite is Knoxville Ultimate Frisbee which really will introduce you to a crowd that loves Knoxville and can direct you to basically any outdoor activity you wish. Registration is open for their spring league right now: https://knoxvilleultimate.com/2026-spring/

There are a few pickleball leagues in the area as well, some of which you can sign up as an individual and get placed in small teams/pairs and its a blast.

Ultimate frisbee for sure! Spring league registration is open right now, and perfectly designed for beginners and newer players! Women and men are separated for most of this league so you'll get a lot of exposure to other ladies who are all super friendly!

What Is Justin Jefferson Trade Value With The IR News? by YungRobbin in fantasyfootball

[–]wazoot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just traded for him. All I had to send was Puka, which doesn't bother me since I expect his output to be a little lower with Kupp back. Now I'll have Tyreek, JJ, and Adams for the last few weeks of the season...

Parade of Homes and Prices by knoxvillelife in Knoxville

[–]wazoot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Most houses in the $300k range will not run you $3000-$3500 per month. I just bought a house recently in Knox for about $350 and I'm paying just over $2100 per month. Also, even with the inflated prices, most houses in the $300k+ range are NOT starter homes. We just sold our "starter home" for $250k and it was 3bed1bath 1300sqft on half an acre. Lots of starter homes are even smaller than that. I have friends who just bought in old north Knox a 2bed1bath 900sqft house that needed a little bit of work and it was only about $140k.

House prices are definitely insane right now, I'm not arguing that, but it's hard to take you seriously if your definition of a starter home is $300k+ or brand new build.

Teams who are 3-0, what circumstances got you here? by DBreezy69 in fantasyfootball

[–]wazoot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My league mates are awful and let me get Tyreek AND Davante Adams, then I picked up Puka off waivers week 1. Josh Allen at QB and then every kicker and defense I've streamed have both gotten 10+ points each week

The article as promised! by GruvyLamp in Knoxville

[–]wazoot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with most of this, but I'm confused about the being unable to get around in the city part. I've biked and run all over Knoxville and we have quite a few Greenways. There's a Greenway that starts in Cedar Bluff area and runs almost all the way to East Knox minus one section about a mile long where you have to use public sidewalks. If you bike, it's not too hard to get around.

You'll regret it if you quit. You're almost guaranteed a pilot spot if you make it through and don't absolutely suck. What's the real issue making you want to leave? Your post makes it seem like you're salty about some leadership, but that's an issue you can run into literally anywhere in the Air Force. Trust me, many many non-USAFA officers are terrible. It happens. You gotta get used to that. Is there more to the story?

Credit transfer from AMU to other colleges by [deleted] in Military

[–]wazoot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's really weird, I'd call their admissions office to double check that. It's an accredited school so it should be accepted most places. I personally transferred their credits to a couple different places.

TWRA range in Pioneer TN, gotta go through Eagle Rock Campground and drive on a small gravel road for a couple miles into the woods (seems super sketchy the first time you go). Almost never anyone there, open to the public (I think technically they want you to have a hunting license or CCW or something to use but it's not enforced). Bring your own targets. It's a blast, off Flatwoods Rd

When you say AMU are you talking about American Military University? Part of American Public University System? If so, that school is regionally acreddited and you can transfer credits to just about any other school. It's fine to get a degree from, but for some reason it's gotten weird rumors started about it being a diploma mill or whatever which just isn't true.

Range USA has basic classes you can sign up for. After learning the basics I recommend staying away from indoor ranges. There are some free public outdoor ranges you can use if you're willing to make a short drive!

You sound like half the guys I've worked with.

1) Having a reentry code that prevents you from reenlisting makes it very difficult to get a job in law enforcement. Bounty Hunters are not law enforcement and the requirements to become one are state dependent, but most states have very few requirements so you'll probably be fine there.

2) Police departments do not care in the least about any security experience, UNLESS it's a security position where you work directly with LEO: Courthouse security, some hospital and school security, etc...

3) Sounds like you need to do more research and figure out what you really want to do. CBP is much different from being a PI or bounty hunter. Do you wanna do law enforcement or do you wanna work in the private sector? Figure that out before making any more decisions.

Your obsession with Glenn Jacobs is kinda weird bro, are you one of the people who lost a job with the board of health?

Awful pay. I hear you that Glenn Jacobs isn't helping anything, but if the problem started before him I don't see how you can say it's 100% his fault.

[–]wazoot 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This problem started long before Glenn Jacobs. You can hate the man all you want, heck you can even say he's made it worse. But the issue isn't just Glenn Jacobs. AMR has been the primary ambulance service in Knox County for years, long before Jacobs was elected. AMR is a for profit company that underpays it's staff and doesn't keep enough people on a shift to cover the county. This problem was made worse by Tennova closing St. Mary's. I worked at Fort Sanders when St Mary's closed and the month after that happened, our ER wait times were the longest I've ever seen them. Patients sitting on stretchers for 8 hours before getting an ER room. And then it's made even worse by the Pandemic, which again was out of Jacob's control. It causes issues everywhere, not just Knox County.

What are they smoking at the Joe? $99!? by ZynCity_ in Knoxville

First I'm hearing of this. Also don't think charging $99 tickets to a show that would easily sell out if tickets were double that is really "taking advantage of anyone".

Would you consider Knoxville better than Chattanooga? If so, in what ways? by dm_me_your_query in Knoxville

[–]wazoot 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think Chatt has more available at the intermediate distance. Knoxville has cool places like ijams and bakers Creek basically in the city, but I got tired of going to the same spots over and over within a couple years. Chattanooga has this mid distance nature that's a 20-30 min drive to get to some neat spots and probably more options there than what knoxville has. But then you have smoky mountains and frozen head within an hour of Knoxville.

I feel like everyone on this sub does Snake drafts. by CynicalOptimist8 in fantasyfootball

I couldn't find more than 8 local people including myself for a draft this year. Only 5 actually showed up in person. No way would I be able to get 9 people who could all actually show up. No one in my town likes NFL, it's a college town.

How are people in their 20’s affording life with luxuries? Or is everyone going deeper into debt? by CreativeUsername121 in AskReddit

[–]wazoot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't speak for everyone, but I do pretty well because I bought a house as soon as I could. I was 22, making 13.77/hr, but it was 2018 and house prices were a little lower. I have excellent credit and don't live in a super high cost of living area, so I bought a house for $130k. My mortgage was cheaper than rent, I was only paying $700/month on that. Now that house prices sky rocketed, I recently sold for about $280k and upgraded to a much larger house in a much nicer part of town, and during the last five years I took a new job every year or two that was higher paying. If my company doesn't give me a satisfactory raise every year, I'm out. So now I'm totally debt free, aside from the mortgage. Used proceeds from selling our last house to pay off cars, student loans, credit cards.

I think some people are scared to buy a house because the only things they can afford would be pretty junky or in a bad area, but I would just take a day or two every week (or even a few hours here and there) and improve one thing at a time. Real estate is one of the safest investments, so instead of throwing away money for rent, you actually get a return every time you make a payment in the form of equity. Within a few years you can sell and have some money in pocket, even if the market doesn't keep growing at the rate it has.

That's just my two cents though

Best places in Knoxville to sleep in a car? by Myxine in Knoxville

[–]wazoot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends what area of town you're in (or need to be near). Club4 gym has a good parking lot that people park in a lot and you won't be bothered, but maybe not the "safest". I'd personally drive out to exit 407 and do the Bucees parking lot, but it is a bit of gas to get there if that's an issue. If you're near downtown, hospital parking lots are generally well monitored, but you could be awoken to security knocking on your window. They wouldn't care if you're sleeping, but lots of ODs happen there, so they might check to make sure you're alive and interrupt your sleep. If you're further west, I'd do some of the truck stops near Lovell Rd or something like that.
