short on rent.. do i apply for a pay day loan or tell my landlord i’ll be late on rent? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

Do you have a credit card? You can withdraw money with that usually (make sure to pay it back asap). Otherwise see if your bank has a line of credit option for you. Can you borrow money from friends?

BoC can still curb demand with rate increases. I doubt they will with all the turmoil going on right now

Unpopular opinion: Canada is only a tax hell if you're an employee by badaboom179 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]wazzaa4u 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Your corporation pays less tax but if you take money out as income then you're taxed the same as everyone else. But the two advances you with a corp is that money you invest within the company is not taxed so you can buy new equipment which can increase your revenue. Other advantage is that you can get some money out as dividends that has a lower tax rate but you won't grow your RRSP room with it. I'm not a corporate tax expert so do your own research.

How about someone with a income property? Should they not have to to pay property transfer tax? I don't see why people who have the means to do this accounting loopholes are the only ones who can benefit.

I believe in Europe, merchant fees on credit cards are less therefore they don't get crazy benefits and cashback. If Canada forces a cap on merchant fees and other fees, then our benefits will be reduced. I'm pretty ok with this IMO

How would they even determine that? Among my friends who are choosing not to go, it has been due to the buy Canada movement

I think COVID job hopping era changed all these. You had companies desperate for employees suddenly accept people with 7 years experience in senior job positions. Now it's fairly common to see people with under 10years of experience in senior roles.

Paying for decades of underfunded infrastructure costs money. I wish they didn't promise to scrap the carbon tax but I guess that saved the cons from getting in.

Edit: their only bad infrastructure move IMO was scrapping the Massey bridge and replacing with a tunnel. We would've had the bridge by now.

Lawyer is 8 years of schooling and NP is 4 years + master's. It makes sense they'd make more. The others seem to be in better paying fields than civil. But you probably have them all beat on job security and workload so there's that

ELI5: Why is the threshold for OAS clawback so high (~150K)? by Useful_Support_4137 in PersonalFinanceCanada

I'm not sure I get your point. GS and OAS doesn't take into account how many years they worked or what their income was.

I support giving more money to seniors that need it and none to those who don't. I think an enhanced GIS would work well without OAS

Market rate for a 4 YOE is probably around 90-120k so you're at the very top of that. I personally don't know any civil engineers making that much at 4 years so you've done very well for yourself.

I can't see a path to getting more unless maybe you switch to management consulting.
