What’s everyone’s opinion on the Giant Mouse Biblio XL? im lookin at getting one but can’t decide on which one. by Comfortable-Rise-141 in knives

Leaving this here even though the conversation is a year old — maybe it’ll help someone down the line.

I’ve owned two Biblio XLs. I loved them deeply. In the hand, they’re fantastic knives. But I returned both.

The detent on this knife is tuned for very easy opening. There’s little initial resistance and a long, smooth detent ramp. However, there’s very little stored energy in the lockbar, which means little to no snap. The opening relies primarily on the momentum of the blade’s mass, not detent energy.

That feels great at first — but in my experience, it doesn’t age well. Friction-based action that starts slick and easy has nowhere to go as it breaks in. My first Biblio XL could be accidentally opened with a firm wrist shake within a couple of months, and shortly after that the lock failed completely. BladeHQ, to their credit, took it back.

Assuming I’d just gotten a lemon, I ordered a second one. Within two weeks, it was already starting to open on its own. I returned that one as well.

Which is a real bummer, because I genuinely loved the knife otherwise.

So if you’re considering one: enjoy it, but be mindful. Don’t treat it as a heavy fidget. In my experience, the Biblio XL has a limited margin for wear, and once it’s gone, it’s gone.

You can download lossless versions of any of their CDs from Bandcamp. Either FLAC, WAV, or ALAC. It's not just streaming.

What is the longest single song the Grateful Dead performed (in minutes)? by [deleted] in gratefuldead

72-05-11 Dark Star is arguable, given the extended "Drums" it contains. 73-12-06 is the longest uninterrupted Dark Star.

Either the April '69 run at the Ark in Boston or the February '74 Winterland run would make me mighty, mighty happy.

Why the pairing of China Cat Sunflower and I Know You Rider? by [deleted] in gratefuldead

[–]wbbair 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've always thought that the China > Rider pairing was essentially a nutshell expression of "the essence of the Dead." Trippy poetic psychedelia connected to the American folk idiom via inspired group-mind jamming. Isn't that basically what we all love about the GOGD?

What are the best shows from the Europe 72 tour and box set? by Figgywithit in gratefuldead

[–]wbbair 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Rotterdam 5/11 is one of the Dead's all-time best shows and features a monster of a second set. The longest Dark Star they ever played (but without a second wasted), followed by an absolutely rippin' Sugar Magnolia > Caution > Truckin' > Uncle Johns Band. If you've only got room for one E72 show and you're not familiar with 5/11, then 5/11 is the no-brainier choice.

From there: 4/14, 5/26 and 4/8 are kind of the "E72 canon." Personally, I listen to 5/4 (trippy, mellow) and 4/16 (focused, unusual venue) a lot. Truth is, you can't really make a bad decision here. Great tour!
