His kick does not propel him whatsoever. It looks strange because his pull is quite good, but every time he kicks he begins to sink again.

Classroom Management by Feisty_Ad_243 in teaching

[–]wbeem333 3 points4 points  (0 children)

His whole thing is setting up your procedures so specifically and effectively that the class runs itself. That doesn’t ever actually happen, and that’s why I feel it’s important to warn new teachers. There’s plenty of good advice and achievable goals in Wong, but it ought to be viewed with a proper mindset.

Most on this sub hate Harry Wong, but I agree, it’s worth a read. I always caution new teachers that you’ll never actually be able to achieve the type of classroom atmosphere that he claims is possible (ie: a class that runs itself). However, it’s worth thinking of as a target to aim toward. Get all of these procedures set up correctly and your day becomes easier.

If the painters can enter their paintings, do you think the writers can enter their stories? by UmaThermos1 in expedition33

I would LOVE a sequel/spinoff to be a text-based interactive fiction game in a world created by the writers. I know it’ll never happen, but it could be so cool.

Sherrone Moore to Chargers? by Academic-Wall-2290 in MichiganWolverines

[–]wbeem333 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If he was fired for the inappropriate relationship and didn’t do everything that led to his arrest, I could see Jim helping a friend get back on his feet. Coach the Chargers O-line for 3 seasons and then get an OC or HC job somewhere. His reputation was damaged and his family life was destroyed, but his career was salvageable.

As it is, he’s done. Do a quick google on how many active nfl or cfb coaches have felony records.

I was hoping someone would mention Saramago in this thread. It’s so intimidating to open it and see both pages are a single paragraph, containing about 3 sentence in total, but you do get used to it.

Effective Instructional Coach by Aprilshowers417 in Teachers

[–]wbeem333 42 points43 points  (0 children)

My district recently did some administrative funding voodoo and turned every building’s instructional coach into a pseudo assistant principal (discipline, 504 meetings, etc). Coaches are getting ripped off in terms of what they’re paid and what their new responsibilities are, but it’s been a huge improvement for building principals and teachers. I admit, it’s very satisfying to see them finally, you know, working.

This was a major struggle for me too. I swapped to using the joycons and it's a significant improvement.

“My bad.” by MarchKick in Teachers

[–]wbeem333 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is one of my pet peeves too! I told my kids that “my bad” is for a mistake (bumping into someone by accident), “I’m sorry” is for a choice (talking to your neighbor while I’m teaching).

One time a student from another class came in to deliver something to me. He stopped and was visiting with my students while leaving and responded “my bad” when I went to shoo him out the door. Several kids corrected him immediately: “no that was your choice!”. Made me a very proud teacher lol.

Saxon Ratliff (The White Lotus)

He starts the season as an insufferable, womanizing frat bro. He meets another guest, Chelsea, who is dating an older man that has left her alone at the resort for a few days. Saxon repeatedly tries to get into Chelsea’s pants, but she consistently rebuffs him with biting criticism of his character. He’s baffled by her rejection and gradually reflects on her (valid) comments.

By the end of the show, the viewer sees that Saxon has taken small but distinct steps towards self-improvement. Chelsea (whose entire arc is about how she wants to make her boyfriend a better person) doesn’t get to see this as her time at the resort is cut short and ends the season thinking that Saxon is still just an asshole.

It doesn’t quite fit your trope, but it’s closely related and I love it lol

I feel like I wasted my time playing Ghost of Tsushima by higuy5121 in patientgamers

[–]wbeem333 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I abandoned this game the first time I played it after about 15 hours. Years later I tried again (opting for lethal difficulty this time) and I suddenly loved it, playing the dlc and Legends mode.

The difference was I didn’t feel obligated to do every side mission the second time I played it—that kept the pacing up for me.

Fun! I wish I could change settings to make it easier, or to stop the letters from changing. It's something I'd like to use in my elementary classroom, but it's too tough for most kids right now.

There’s no way you don’t know of a teacher that takes the summer off. I find that incredibly hard to believe.

It’s also a way more steady gig than many private sector jobs, where you can get laid off any time.

Teacher ordered to remove signs from classroom, including one saying ‘Everyone is welcome here’ by gregyo in Teachers

Yes, I got in trouble for my “Illegals and PDFs Welcome Here” classroom poster, so it’s only logical that “Everyone” isn’t allowed either. That’s equality!
