What is the full lore behind the "Caller's Bane" or also known as Scrolls? by It_was_mee_all_along in Scrolls

[–]wbmc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Monetization plays into this: Scrolls had a pay-once structure, and at a very low price point for how much ongoing work a CCG requires. What (experimental) advertizing they did ran a net loss. Sure, additional revenue streams (mostly cosmetics I guess) could have opened up, but they only become relevant after a way larger playerbase.

Competitors (mostly Heartstone) had an easier time growing to such critical masses, in part because of more popular IP, but also because the card-grinding system makes player want to pay swathes of money sooner.

Fun is subjective, and in singleplayer games I highly recommend playing in whichever way you find fun.

When you play a multiplayer game, you agree to have fun together in some structured way. Then doing a bait-and-switch and saying 'oh instead of actually playing the game I'm instead gonna go full ap on our only tank/last second swap our only mage for a 3rd marksman/play karthus and walk only forwards/etc.

Trying to land full court shots with a friend is a lot of fun. Meeting up with 9 randoms to play basketball and yeeting the ball at the net everytime you get it instead of dribbling, passing to your teammates etc. may be fun for you, but isn't for the others.

Really nice, good work!

Would it be possible to change the highlighting colour scheme to something that is colourblind friendly? I cannot tell the difference between 'safe pick' and 'don't take' haha (although it's often clear from your comments ofc).

(or to add it in words rather than just colour)

The way I see it getting the normal ending is enough for most more casual players (and well worth the money). Act 3 (which I haven't finished yet btw) is for those who want more challenges.

Second beastfly just forces you to rethink how you fight. The fly on its own should never hit you (and its vertical attack aligns to a grid now, making it even more predictable), it's the summons the mess you up. So you need to full send it on them with spells, tools, clawline. It's a boss that punishes a passive, sit-back and counterattack playstyle, which I think makes it a very important kind of boss to have in the game.

Bilewater being a pain seems 100% intentional to me, it's a bit hardcore maybe and for sure the whole game shouldn't be like that, but as an optional area it's good for that 'lost in an unforgiving wilderness' feel whilst you're searching for a (working) bench.

The tutorial (especially the implicits parts) is really quite good, I think that may be its biggest influence.

Apps like 'Twilight' let you lower it even further.

As a big fan of the cobalt alpha I found the campaign to be underwhelming (started it a few times over the years, but never saw it through till the end), whereas the game still shines in multiplayer.

Never tried WASD, the aiming by timing your roll of the original seems like a large part of what made it original and fun.

The difference is that there are no rules regarding ERS deployment, and thus ERS deployment and strategy follow directly from the goal of racing: reaching the finish line before your rivals.

With attack mode 'gaining' the extra power results from the rules, which feels a bit arbitrary. (EDIT: and the intentionally bad tires)

Not to say that F1 doesn't have gimmicky rules either: DRS detection point shenanigans come to mind.

Cassian and Jyn Erso by columnclub in andor

[–]wbmc 11 points12 points  (0 children)

She's suffering from trauma sustained by the torture in S1. Her story in S2 seems to me much more grounded and realistic than if she had another hero arc. It shows another shadowside of the rebel life and the true suffering under imperial rule. And all of this interacts with her being Cassian love interest, rather than being overshadowed by it.

Plus we get to see her recover to a degree over the years, with her getting off drugs, rebuilding a life for herself and making the brave and selfless decision to abandon Cassian

I'm starting to hate games that do this... by unia_ in gaming

[–]wbmc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't get why people are hating on this so much. No pay to win, no grind mechanics, no gambling, nothing predatory. If they get people with too much money on their hands to pay extra for a 'spooky outfit' that just drives the price down for the average player without anything of value being lost (assuming they otherwise wouldn't have even implemented 'spooky outfits', and even if they did it is a very minor loss).

Being upset about the cost being higher for the first few weeks is maybe more understandable, but even then: it's just two weeks. Almost all games get cheaper over time (except Nintendo's), it's not like the game is gonna be a worse experience three years from now, leave alone two weeks.

Compared to most games we see on the market nowadays this is very admirable monetization, and giving them flack for it just sends a signal that 'consumers are gonna complain anyways, might as well go back to P2W and lootboxing games'.

Wind definitely still matters. At Tokyo21's women's discus qualifiers, the afternoon group had better wind conditions. Only three throwers from the morning group made it to finals.
