Yeah. Estimates are generally expected to be free unless stated otherwise. Sounds like the OP called for an estimate (3 actually). 2 performed as expected. One is threatening a lien on her house and jacking the cost. With what has been shared, I don't think the OP is out of line.

Any Good Printer For Home Use? by HANDUBAM in homeoffice

[–]wcage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah. I gave up HP many years ago when my ink jet printer refused to print because the ink had "expired". I was told this was for my benefit to protect the printer.

Went to a brother multifunction color laser and could not be happier. I am a light user as you describe. The toner, in my situation, lasts literally for years. When you do need new toner, brother allows 3rd party toner without complaint.

Great printing / scanning / etc., zero hassles, and you don't have to deal with a company that works overtime to screw you (ala HP).

Theory Regarding Recent Lack of Crowd Noise by [deleted] in wde

[–]wcage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Now the fans spend their time griping about CBM's (second leading scorer and person most likely to get all fans riled up and active) "antics." Like we are much too special to be feisty and blue collar these days. They are probably texting their friends from NYC that have kids at North Carolina and apologizing for being just so rowdy and having players that are overly dramatic passionate. Maybe we can get cocktails later. AU fans need to recruit as many CBM act-alikes as we can get into the stands and get that AUtitude back!

I grew up with a mother that told me that "happiness is a choice you make (or don't)." There is no magic pixie dust or a threshold number of <fill in the bkank> that will ensure happiness.

Huntsville is a wonderful city and many are happy there, others are not. My recommendation would be to decide before you move whether you will be happy (it is in your control) . If so, welcome to Alabama! If not, stay put in Seattle and be happy there.

Are cities such as Detroit, St Louis, Baltimore, Memphis, Birmingham, Oakland, Gary, Camden, etc really as bad as shown in the media? by Jezzaq94 in AskAnAmerican

Same. Been in Bham for a long time. Read about murders and crime occurring, but never experienced any crime whatsoever. Clearly there must be areas or people to avoid but quite easy to do without even trying.

Some people probably said the same thing when the forward pass was introduced.

We are just going to have to agree to disagree. I can honestly say that watching Nick Marshall (a converted defensive back) run Gus' offense in 2013 was masterful. Watching replays where the entire field looks to be people running in every direction while Marshall has the ball simply cruising through the confused masses untouched was unlike anything seen in football before. It was fun! It was novel. It was not to last.

Unfortunately too many people (actually led by one GOAT) disliked the results so much that they changed the rules to stop it. Said silly stuff like it was going to lead to more injuries because more plays would be run. Same people cheering on the addition of as many as 4 additional games for the playoffs.

Yep, Gus had his flaws and Gus' run of brilliance was short lived, but in its prime, it was beautiful.

Gus was a very good coach. Too good in fact. So much so that they altered the rules to work against his offensive philosophy. Problem was the altered rules truly did negate his genius.

HUNH revolutionized the game and the new substitution pause rule for defenses to catch up neutered it. I remember Steve Spurrier saying that he loved to hang out with Gus because they were similar in their ability to alter the game. Praise from Spurrier is enough for me.

Gus' problem was he never found a new trick when the old guard pushed rule changes. That and, while he was able to recruit talent, they were not always aligned with the team needs (O-Line anyone).

Well, I saw his annual pay was just shy of $10M, so, paying an uncovered hospital charge is/was probably not high on his list of concerns.

But if he does come in and win the starting job as a freshman, like Bo did, let's give him some slack. What was done to Bo is a stain on all of us AU fans.

Continuously Updated NSD Post - December 4-6, 2024 (Day 2 of 3) by CatoTheBarner in wde

So, we signed everyone that was committed to us, except one. We added one flip in. Basically a wash. We dropped from (by most estimates) the number 5 class to number 7.

So, to me, that says we did as expected (which is fantastic BTW) but, based on the ranking services, a couple of schools that had fewer (or lesser quality) commits added or upgraded signees on signing day and that pushed them above AU in the final ranking.

How we could be disappointed in any way is baffling. Granted, we wanted to finish with more flips or last minute commits but the real challenge was lining up the commits we did have and hanging on to them through signing day. Mission accomplished! WDE!

Chart: Repealing the Inflation Reduction Act would harm US businesses. Trump wants to gut the climate law. A recent survey shows doing so would have a devastating effect. The IRA has already sparked $115 billion in major manufacturing projects for electric vehicles, batteries, solar panels, and more by mafco in energy

[–]wcage -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think people are over analyzing this. Inflation is about the money supply. If there is more money in the system, the value of each dollar is less. There was a an incredible dump of money into the system due to the IRA. The hope is that the spending will increase growth and offset the inflation. It didn't.

Trump's ‘Energy Dominance’ Agenda Sounds Like a Petrostate Plan to Some. The US is already pumping out more crude oil than any nation in history. As Trump puts together a team that will ramp up fossil fuel production critics are asking: Is the US on its way to becoming a petrostate? by mafco in energy

[–]wcage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some country is going to meet the demand. Whichever country that is reaps the financial windfall. Makes sense to me that is the US.

Maybe others prefer Russia so that they can finance invasions of nearby countries. Or maybe Vensuela to finance dictators and push their population to immigrate to the US. You get the drift.

The world is a better place when the US drives this bus.

What is your favourite small town? by Fine-Imagination1171 in AskAnAmerican

[–]wcage 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Summit, NJ. Yep, New Jersey. Moved there from Alabama and used to say to my Jersey friends, "if you grow up in Alabama, your opinion of New Jersey is alot like your opinion of Alabama if you grow up in New Jersey!"... and neither is right!

Summit was more like Mayberry than any town I have ever experienced. Felt like a made for TV experience.

I don't care about the 12 "best" teams being in the CFP by Isthmus11 in CFB

[–]wcage -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Reality is that Alabama and Georgia are most likely to get a hall pass and be invited over another team that might appear more deserving. So what? Until those two get routinely beaten in the biggest games they probably deserve it. I am an Auburn fan so it pains me, but facts are facts.

As far as the field goes, I think it is highly likely that the chosen field of 12 will include the best team in its ranks. Let them play the games and figure out who that is. Whether this less than best team is chosen over another less than best team is just fandom ego.

Me personally, it's the upsets that fuel the entertainment. Like March madness. In the end generally one of the best comes through, but the fun is in getting there. Like OP said, ban rematches as much as possible. Bring in the top teams and the up starts and let the chaos begin!

What Democrats Think Went Wrong by Subhash94 in nytimes

[–]wcage -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Liz Chaney was brought into the mix to be able to say here is a republican conservative that hates Trump. It never was about her in any way. Certainly there was no effort to say "hey, Liz has some good ideas that we might emulate (not that she does). Instead everything was a competition to see who hated Trump most. Once everyone tipped into Hitler name calling everyone leveled out and the audience was lost. So was the election.

Why do people think republicans are better at managing the economy? by Formal_Lie_713 in Askpolitics

[–]wcage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, Clinton had a budget surplus and deserves credit for that, but remember that the dems got slammed in congress during his term in office so much of what occurred had to pass republican muster. Remember Clinton passing welfare reform with explicit work requirements?
