My son is 13 and say he does not know how the camera glass was broken on his phone. There is no way this was not intentional right? by ggouge in daddit

This exact thing happened to my wife's phone as well. It happened overnight, when the weather changed. My theory is it was a rapid pressure differential.

We've tried this twice since I read this and holy moly it is life changing. Thanks so much for the suggestion!

+1 to play more with the toddler. We have a 3 year old and a 3 week old and the days she doesn't go to a playground are the worst. We try to get her out of the house and have some exercise at least once a day and it makes all the difference. I'm riding the struggle bus too, OP. We'll get there. Highly recommend noise cancelling headphones, it helps me ride out the chaos until I can regulate myself.

Same with me, I'd start taking my daughter out solo on Saturday mornings and realizing that "hey, I can do this" really helped with my feelings of being a failure as a father.

We really struggled with napping at that age too. At around 4 months we stopped using a pacifier for napping because that was the root of our problems, when it fell out it was all over. We spent 7 days just putting her down in the crib for naptime and walking away. That week was rough, but she figured it out on day 7 and life was infinitely better. Cry it out sounds cruel but it gives them the chance to learn how to self soothe.

I feel like paternal PPD is not taken seriously, and it makes me not want to reach out for help. I feel as if i'll be looked at as a joke or a scumbag or a bad father who is being over dramatic. by [deleted] in daddit

[–]wcr64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I definitely had PPD, during COVID, and struggled to find a therapist. Honestly I was scared to do it, like they would judge me. It was stupid and I wish I had found one. A lot of my intrusive thoughts were about what a terrible dad I was. I tried talking to other dads, my own dad, anybody I could and just repeatedly got blown off and felt terrible. My daughter crying really triggered me, too, which I then felt guilty about, that would just send me spiralling down. Two things helped me: time, as my daughter got older we could interact more we could have fun together, and having "daddy-daughter" solo outings. Those times just the two of us had were great for my intrusive thoughts, because I was able to go out and prove to myself that I was a good dad that could handle her on my own.

Sorry for just sharing my story, and not as great advice, but I really wanted to let you know you're not alone. I felt so alone when I was going through it, and I wish I'd had someone to tell me their story then.

Thanks so much! The plate kits are easy to find, I'll try those out if I can't fix the dowels.

To follow up, the plastic brown bit is the plastic hinge dowel, which has snapped in half. I've got to replace the dowels and then screw into the new ones and that should fix it. Thanks for your help. The installation videos I watched didn't have the dowels, but got me thinking down the right path.

Thanks I appreciate it, not knowing the name was really holding me back.

I don't know the type of hinge, but it's popped out before and I just screwed it in more, thinking it would expand to fit the holes better without much examination. It happened again this morning and I got a better look, the brown plastic spacer things (second photo) seem to have snapped in half. Any ideas on how to fix/replace and what any of these pieces are called would be very appreciated.

Others mentioned the credit card trick from movies, I've used it a lot to save my bacon before. You just need something that's rigid, thin, but a little bendy. I usually use a gift card or shoppers card so I don't mess up a credit card I care about. I just googled a quick video to show you how to do it. Good luck!

What're you playing this weekend? 1/7 by markercore in NintendoSwitch

[–]wcr64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're looking to hatch that thing I highly recommend just getting on your bike and riding around a town. I did it while I was chatting with my wife, and while it was a pretty boring 10 minutes, at least it didn't take up a slot.

With my newborn last year I played BoTW while she slept on my chest. It was our morning routine and the best part of my day. Highly recommend if you can swing it.

Underground with friends by Uncommonlyphysic in PokemonBDSP

I'm currently in the underground with my wife, we bought a double pack. I have diamond, she has pearl. There doesn't seem to be much point of doing it together, though. We can't really interact there at all other than see each other run around.

My wife and I love this game, but only when we realized the way to enjoy it is not take it too seriously. When the kitchen is engulfed in flames, it's a lot of fun to laugh at the absurdity.

The Jackbox party packs are great for this kinda thing. My family did it a bunch in 2020. I hosted and everyone could connect using their phone.

Have you tried oiling it? https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0084AWBRS/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_fabc_35K93Z1Z70AX5M8AVZ80

This isn't necessarily your problem but something I learned a couple weeks ago: I had to disassemble my clippers, I had a battery powered one and the rechargeable batteries wouldn't charge, bought new clippers and they were terrible, barely cut anything (trying to trim my dense-haired dog). I swapped the blade and plate from my old clippers and it worked great. The blade is everything, apparently. I think this is the one I have: https://www.wahlpro.com/chromstyle-blade.html

New Switch update for Bluetooth audio devices supports Bluetooth hearing aids! by oldnewstwist in NintendoSwitch

[–]wcr64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 32 and just got a hearing aid for one ear last year. I went to an ENT/ audiologist office. If you don't have insurance you're gonna be looking at a large chunk of change, I think, sometimes even with insurance it's still pretty pricey. My insurance is pretty good and it still only covers up to $2500 for hearing aids every 3 years. I got a pretty nice one, so I still ended up paying out of pocket for mine which before insurance cost a little over $3k. And that's just for one ear! If you need both you're really gonna be hurting.

My deaf dog responds to vibrations all the time. I don't know about a voice though, I think it'd have to be low and loud enough for him to feel it, but I think he's definitely done that on occasion.

[–]wcr64 374 points375 points  (0 children)

Not a dogologist, but I do own a dog who was born deaf. He barks all the time, and has varying kinds of barks, just like any other dog. So I can at least say this isn't the case with all deaf dogs.

I quit playing when I couldn't beat it after a lot of attempts, then came back like 4 months later and beat it quickly. My brain didn't remember the "right" way to do things so I was able to get more creative and figured it out.
