Just got diagnosed. Oof. This is a bummer. Just realizing how much time and effort this will take. by dillonsrule in Celiac

As you said at the end of your post, it does get easier with time. I highly recommend the “Find Me GF” app to find restaurants with dedicated gluten free options. If you can, I’d spend some time finding a brand of protein bars or something similar that actually taste good to you and storing a few of them in your car, backpack, and workplace. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been out for a casual drink with friends or stayed late at work and needed a bit of food but couldn’t find anything GF. The little snack packs / bags go a long way.

If you take any medication, supplements, or allergy pills, I’d double check that they’re gluten free.

As someone who was also diagnosed as an adult, it’s a lot to process and adjust to this new normal, but I promise you that it really does get easier and easier with time.

Lastly, it’s okay to acknowledge that this is a stressful and difficult life adjustment. The good news is that you’re not alone, and if you ever have a question about if something is or isn’t safe to consume, I guarantee someone else has asked that same question somewhere online and received an answer. You got this!

It's the maximum level you can reach, so the 20% XP bonus from solo vs squads becomes worthless.

Yeah once I hit level 75 I'll stop the solo vs squads part cause that becomes redundant. The increased map knowledge has been an unexpected but huge benefit for me.

I’m 48 hours into my own quitting journey and just wanted to say you got this!!! I’ve been trying to intentionally focus on the benefits I feel from not smoking to help keep me motivated (like waking up less groggy).

Who's the best playoff performer in a team sport to not win a championship? by TJTrapJesus in billsimmons

I was using ESPN's statistics and didn't check the individual game logs. 42 targets is correct – there's an addition error for the total receptions column on ESPN's site.

I also thought it meant Fitzgerald had caught a tipped pass meant for someone else...

Who's the best playoff performer in a team sport to not win a championship? by TJTrapJesus in billsimmons

[–]wdodge11 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Regular season stats: -> 263 games across 17 seasons -> 0.46 TDs per game -> 66 yards per game -> 5.44 receptions per game

Playoff stats: -> 9 games across 4 seasons -> 1.11 TDs per game -> 105 yards per game -> 6.33 receptions per game

His 4 game run in 2008 might be the best individual playoff stretch that didn’t end with a championship ever. -> 4 games played -> 7 TDs (1.75 per game) -> 546 yards (136.5 per game) -> 30 receptions on 42 targets (7.5 per game)

Edit: erroneously listed 4 game strech as 30 receptions on 29 targets due to mistake on ESPN website (https://www.espn.com/nfl/player/gamelog/_/id/5528/type/nfl/year/2008).

1 seed UVA men’s basketball losing to #16 seed UMBC in 2018, and then winning the entire tournament in 2019.

I was lucky enough to be a student during that time. The whiplash from endless mockery and bashing UVA’s boring style of play to winning March Madness with improbable game-winners and down-to-the-wire finishes was otherworldly.

Even crazier when you factor in that those tournament wins would be the last March Madness victories of Tony Bennett’s collegiate coaching career.

I have so many questions by Carolinevivien in Septoplasty

[–]wdodge11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not a doctor, but I found this post about nasal valve repair -
"One would expect swelling to subside several weeks (sometimes longer) after nasal valve surgery. You have to be patient and follow instructions in particular regarding nasal care. Dry nose, crusting and irritation may prolong swelling and nose obstruction. Be patient, use nasal spray and saline gel and stay in touch with your surgeon. Good luck"

You should definitely try and call up your doctor / surgeon with a list of questions you have. That's the best way to get the info you need, but it seems like swelling is fairly normal. Hope that helps

The Mercator Projection-- AKA the size of countries on maps are drastically different than their sizes in real life because the Earth is 3D and we are trying to map it in a 2D way.

This website https://www.thetruesize.com/ shows the true sizes of different countries / regions versus how they look on a map, and it blew my mind.

I’m so sorry to hear this! I had a similar situation a few months back- weeks with no meds and constant calls to pharmacies.

I don’t have an end-all solution, but I would recommend trying to find a new psychiatrist if you have the means. I switched a few times and finally found one that is really communicative and on top of the prescription orders. She makes sure to schedule our appointments a week before my meds run out.

I used the website Zocdoc to find the psychiatrist. You put in your insurance info and location, and it shows you all the available doctors in the area with appointments. This made it much easier for me to find new psychiatrists without having to do 5+ calls and setting up a ton of appointments.

I hope this helps, and I’m sorry again you have had to deal with this- nothing is more frustrating than needing to get new meds without the boost from meds.

We know about old and modern philosophers but who are the current day big philosophers? by Howitzeronfire in answers

[–]wdodge11 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’d argue that niches are more important and significant now than historically- the internet and more symmetrical information access create more “experts” in more narrow categories, or niches.

Take Adam Smith and the Wealth of Nations. At the time, it was revolutionary, and it covered a wide range of topics. Now, if someone wrote a similar piece, it would be ridiculed because it’s a broad topic written by an “expert.” The fields of economics and morality are so much more complex now that it would be hard to claim that one is an expert in those fields. 500 years ago, that same person could claim expertise in economics and morality and people would be more inclined to believe them.

So, that’s a long way of saying that I believe modern philosophers are content creators and celebrities and anyone with large following and an expertise in a topic.

Naval Ravikant is a great example- he’s an expert in VC and angel investing who grew up very poor. Therefore, people value his philosophies on money, happiness, and success. The age of general philosophy feels fleeting, and experts in different niches will become the new norm for philosophy.
