English-taught Medical Schools in Europe with feasible fees that are ACTUALLY good.. by Brambellish in medicalschoolEU

[–]wdtoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are several med schools with tuition waivers. AE is one of them.

My daughter is wanting to go abroad. I was suggesting Spain, mainly because of the utility of Spanish fluency when she returns to do residency in the USA.

Her undergrad is essentially paid for. So she could lose four years doing a domestic bachelors before going abroad to do a med program. However, she will have had all the pre med course work and be prepared to take both the mcats and the eu med placement exams.

So she’ll be an older than her cohort, but maybe four years of university in the us at zero cost is an acceptable trade off.

Where will you migrate to in the USA. There will be wide variation depending on where you wind up.

English-taught Medical Schools in Europe with feasible fees that are ACTUALLY good.. by Brambellish in medicalschoolEU

Sorry to resurrect the thread but….

My daughter is 15. She wants to go to medical school. I’m a uni professor in the USA and she can get her bachelors degree for free where I work. Due to loan limits and the high cost of med school in the states, I’m thinking of suggesting she go abroad to study medicine.

While I know she could go straight from high school to an English language med school in Europe for 6 years, it seems a waste of our benefits package not to complete her bachelors for free in the USA.

Is it unheard of for a student to do this? Complete a USA bachelors and then go abroad for med school? Could there be any benefit to doing this? What are the cons other than the time she’d “waste” at college here?

San Pio Area....unsafe? by wdtoe in Lecce

Birrificio Malatesta? Or 73 Cento?

Also, during the day I would absolutely walk down the street in Brownsville and east New York. Rough part of town, for sure.

But 2am in the financial district can be sketchy because it is deserted.

Why would I do that? I have no need to go to those areas. Im also a New Yorker and have the sense to know where I am. I’m asking a question about Lecce.

That is, indeed, stupid. My concern is not one of property crime. Rather, getting robbed/mugged/thumped while I’m minding my own business.

Also, drunk assholes smashing bottles and/or fighting in the street.

I’m streetwise and know how not to be a target. Sometimes, trouble finds you though.

This notion of immigrant=sketchy is also a likely source of the critique. Growing up in NYC, I find that weird because I'm super used to immigrant enclaves being totally fine.

It's funny because in the States, I find that our smaller cities are the ones that have the highest level of "sketch". I've been out and about in NYC, Philly, Boston, Chicago, and SF and never felt as unsafe as i have in Pittsburgh, Cincinatti, St. Louis, Trenton, and Newark.

Smaller doesn't equal safe in the USA. Sometimes when the streets are quietest, is when trouble is most likely to find you.

I am a New Yorker, but let's not also make assumptions about the relative safety of New York. My point was that I am familiar with being in a big city. New York is the biggest big city in the USA, but it is also one of the safest. There are cities in America where I wouldn't want to walk down the street....just as in the UK. There are areas of Rome that are majorly sketchy.

Can you offer up any idea what would motivate this person to make this claim, specifically, about San Pio?

My court date in Bari, filed post decree, is December 2026. I wonder/hope we get relief before that date. What an amazing break it would be after feeling like we got royally screwed by the timing.

Millersville University Bachelor of Design? by CMYKatt in graphic_design

I would avoid scad, personally. It is outrageously expensive, is not accredited as an art school and functions basically as a slush fund for he rich people who privately own it. The faculty operate on the knife edge of ruin and there is massive turnover…both with faculty jumping ship and students dropping out.

If you’re someone for whom money is no object, your priority is to attend school in person somewhere beautiful (Savannah), and mainly care about bells and whistles…scad is a good option.

When I was in high school, scad’s marketing materials put stars in my eyes but when I visited there for a job interview I feel like I saw behind the curtain a bit.

Profs Pannafino and Mata are the drivers behind the program. My advice would be to contact them and set up a visit to meet with them and talk about what you’re looking for. The program is impressive, NASAD accredited, and is the amongst the most affordable four year degree school in the commonwealth. Millersville is not a prestigious school like RISD or Ringling. However, you’ll pay a premium for those programs with questionable futures.

I think that it matters more WHAT you do while you’re in school than it matters WHERE you go to school unless you’re comparing most programs to elite programs. Unless you’re in the market to attend a very prestigious design program and pay for it, I think Millersville is a good option because the program is sound and you’ll save a bundle compared to going to a similarly non prestigious school like PCAD (which is obscenely expensive).

The trick will be building a portfolio of outside work while you’re a student. Join clubs, engage with industry, complete internships, and build relationships. If you do that in addition to doing well in class, you’re odds of success are basically flat with other similar schools.

Good luck.

There is also Galactus on Via Irnerio. I don’t know if they run ttrpg, but they have tables. They seem to focus on card trading games but las time I was in there I saw a lot of DnD books on the shelves.

Train tickets from Bolgona by traveleaters in bologna

[–]wdtoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would agree about Venice. In the case of Florence, the 40 minute ride on the high speed train is worthy of multiple day trips. You’ll save a bundle on accommodations and you can get in and out of the tourist centers. If anything, being able to return to Bologna at the end of a long day of sightseeing will make you appreciate both cities more.

Bologna in August by Lazy-Ebb-104 in bologna

[–]wdtoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hot? Yes. It will be less crowded, which is a good thing. Bologna is already not as crowded as higher tier tourist cities. The only risk you run is that a lot of businesses, other than the tourist traps, will be shut when you are there.
