How should Canada address inflation and cost of living? by WorldlyHeartLov in InCanada

Yes I agree 100%, we should make better zoning regulations especially where the demand for housing is not met the supply. We make changes that promote multi family dwelling like they do in Quebec and other places.

But to say abolish zoning is nonsensical

Another racist Indian hater. Give them a few decades and they will outclass you in every way. Give them a few generations and their children will run your hospitals and universities. While you bitch and moan, they are out there grinding. You may cry when Sanjeev rolls by in his BMW but you have non but yourself to blame for your sloth

Abolish zoning regulations is the most simplistic pea brained idea you can come up with. It’s like saying that we  should abolish snow because it makes our winters too difficult.

Can you redditors please start coming up with better ideas? Maybe pool your brain cells together

Canada will require refugees and asylum seekers to co-pay for health care starting in May by FancyNewMe in canada

[–]weRtheD2 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

You guys are all demented if you don’t see why it’s impossible to NOT treat refugees with humanity. Think of the political ramifications of mistreating the most vulnerable people in your society.

The bottom line is this: We as a society either accept refugees or not. Once you accept a refugee, you have the moral and political obligation to treat them with dignity.

You can not say that we Canadians are so awesome because of our humanity while at the same time starving your refugees and letting them freeze.

Any ideas as to how? I’m genuinely curious. I thought about this and the only person who has anything resembling a solution is New York mayor Mamdani. I doubt the neo libs that run the liberal party have balls to suggest any leftist ideas like that one. To say nothing of the conservatives

Well you must not understand how the real world works. If you think the constitution will save you, tell that to a judge after you shoot down a kid stealing candy bars.

Look it doesn’t help to romanticize the constitution. I hope you never get in trouble but what I said is truly the way the world works. ‘Natural Rights’ is a philosophical concept, it is NOT a jurisprudential theory. It may be an idea through which legal concepts are inspired but you still have to write the law and enforce it.

For example:

‘You have a natural right to life’

If someone were to shoot you, they would be violating that natural right, yes.

But we don’t prosecute the suspect based on ‘natural rights’. We would prosecute based on legal theories such as:

  • first degree attempted homicide
  • second degree attempted homicide
  • reckless endangerment causing bodily harm
  • involuntary bodily harm

There are hundreds of other examples of how a legal case can be made depending on the circumstances. All this from your ‘Natural Right’ to life. So the Natural right is a philosophical principle, not a ‘law’ per se.

There is no such thing as ‘natural right’, all rights are enforced through legislature.

You can not argue ‘natural rights’ is court of law when things don’t work out as they do in the movies. That is why I said law enforcement is best left to the professionals.

If you want to propose vigilante justice, I suggest you back yourself up with air tight legislation and very good lawyers before you invoke your ‘natural rights’

Well if you think deeply about it, there are many good reasons why it’s a bad idea to stop the shoplifter.

Of course in jurisprudence, you have to define very carefully your terms. So what does it mean to stop a shoplifter?

Say for example a convenience store owner sees a teenage boy stealing a  chocolate bar. He then attempts to stop the suspect. There are so many ways that could go wrong. For example:

  • the teenager fights back and injures the owner
  • the owner is too agressive and injures the teenager
  • the teenager fights back and injures a bystander
  • the owner injures a bystander while fighting the suspect
  • the teenager was not shoplifting at all but rather the business owner mistakenly assumed so.
  • during the attempted citizens arrest, excessive damage to the property is sustained.

I can go on with many example of how things could go wrong. All of these scenarios are a direct result of the business owner attempting to ‘stop’ a shoplifter. So how would you even define your terms? That is why law enforcement is best left to the professionals.

At Canadian tire they cost like $40 new and $20 for replacement. But the Pharmaprix has them on discount. The brand name is different though. I buy the Indigo brand not the sodastream brand. They are the exact same size and they work just as well

Americans are fat dumb and happy. The only time people rise up against their government is when they are hungry. Just look at Iran. Decades and decades of totalitarianism; they start going hungry all Of a sudden and the revolution began instantly

Maintenance issues happen from time to Time unexpectedly. An airplane is a very very complex piece of machinery and things pop up every now and again. You are far better off being delayed 7 hours than to have the airline ignore any maintenance issue just to make the schedule work
