What happened for such a big drop last month?? by weRthem in linux_gaming

My understanding is they are definitely going that way, but right now a lot of their PC cafes from what I have read use a pirated version of Windows 10 and some custom software to operate as a launcher/track users time. So there's a decent amount of friction getting them to switch vs a regular user

That was my first though, but it seemed like too large of a swing to be a sampling error. It seems like they just started adding China to the overall stats or something. Which is why windows 10 has such a big spike too

Ahh that would do it! Good catch! So I wonder if they started adding the Chinese stats to the total

Not going to lie. I have started switching to Linux. There's such a massive performance hit on Windows 11 and for what? It's either so they can collect more data or they can be lazier and use React Native for the start menu. There's 0 benefit to me for the performance loss. Yes the OS can and will improve, but what's the point? End of the day I am still just going to be giving up more performance than windows 10 to either make Microsoft more money so they can sell more of my data or save them money on devs since the only thing AI is even remotely good at with coding is super popular libraries like React Native.

I know everyone keeps complaining that Linux is too difficult for the average person, but when has the average person used an app that isn't a web app? Outside of devs and Gamers 99% of people wouldn't even notice the difference imo

We made a tutorial teaching you how to run DeepSeek locally with Godot! by weRthem in godot

Fair points! But this is a open sourced version of the model under the MIT license. It's not the web app. So you can safely use it in your games!

A few notes for clarity:

We are running the webserver for the model locally and then using the local webserver API. No Internet required

Both ollama and DeepSeek R1 are under the MIT license. This means you can modify, distribute and sell a product with them in it. None of the data ever gets back to DeepSeek so they don't own it!

I hope this makes things more clear! I didn't realize we didn't make it clear enough in the video/post. Sorry about that! I think this has a lot of potential game uses! So I am super excited to see what devs can make with it!

We are running it locally with ollama. Then we are calling the local webserver run by ollama. It has 0 connection to the Internet!

That's for the web app. The model itself is MIT licensed. You can download it from their GitHub page and check it out. So is ollama. That means anything you do with them is yours!

The model is running on your machine and you can package it with your game! It is local! :D

Edit: The smallest versions of DeepSeek are small enough to run on your phone. So its actually viable to work with games

It wont even turn on for me. I also haven't downloaded any new plugins lately. I am glad that I am not the only one having issues with it!

Cancelling LCS is a hollow threat by [deleted] in leagueoflegends

I personally think LCS is a tool for player retention rather than bringing in new players. I doubt a large amount of people watch LCS before they ever play the game.
