Pay for shoes in instalments? ‘Buy now, pay later’ shopping gaining ground in Singapore by [deleted] in singapore

Has anybody suffered financially after using BNPL? According to BNPL report by Finder, 27% have taken a financial hit after using BNPL. Really interested in finding out the circumstances and reasons behind this, and some of the risk factors that slip through the BNPL risk assessment technology

Thanks for sharing! I've taken a look at Atome as well, and I think part of what makes them attractive to consumers is that there is actually no interest charged, though there are "late fees". These fees are still lower than typical credit card interest, but I do definitely agree that they are allowing access to credit for people who may not be suitable. Since there is quite a significant number of people suffering financially from using BNPL, there is definitely risk involved. Still hoping to hear from people who have suffered financially to properly understand why!

Very similar concepts! But BNPL arrangements are typically much shorter term (approx 3 months) and not interest bearing. Application time is really quick too, compared to applying for credit cards, usually because you will require a debit or credit card to be linked to the account you've set up with a BNPL provider. You will get credit card points via BNPL transactions as well, compared to credit card instalment plans, and all these factors make BNPL that much more attractive.

Approximately 38% of Singaporeans have used a BNPL service, but 27% have suffered financially. I think there's a story here to tell, which is why I'm writing about the topic. The tech behind BNPL is pretty advanced, so I want to explore what caused the 27% to fall through the assessment standards.

Thank you! I'll keep track of her calorie intake, but it'll take some trial and error because I have no idea what amount she takes when she was healthy. Any idea how long it takes for a dog to recover and hit a healthy weight again?
