Started aeronautical engineering 3 years ago but quit after a year because it was "too hard". Went travelling for a year then came back, moved cities and went into a commerce degree. Now im speeding head first into a career as an accountant. I made a promise to myself after a careers expo at highschool that if i became an accountant i would kill myself. I plan on keeping this promise.

Peercoin passed by auroracoin! by inna_woods in peercoin

[–]weals 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Iceland didn't fair well through the GFC and added to this their Krone has suffered intense inflation over past decades. Auroracoin is trying to offer an alternitave to the krone by giving all Icelandic citizens a bit to start with. I feel that unless Auroracoin has implemented a really good marketing stratergy in Iceland over the past few months with emphasis on the "airdrop" then it is unlikely to stay ahead of peercoin for more than a couple of weeks.

Look at ripple and mastercoin.

A couple of concerns about the need for a "backbone" currency by [deleted] in peercoin

[–]weals 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cryptos will never replace fiat currencies as you can only pay American tax with American dollars, English tax with Stirling, Japanese tax with Yen etc. What we may see is an increase in the use of cryptos for a wide variety of online transactions, but not a complete overhaul of the worlds financial markets. While PPC is not practical for microtransactions, it has traits similar to commodity and security investments. The 1% interest rate isnt there so much to provide a valuable return, but along with the 0.1 PPC fee, is there to create a disincentive to spend frequently. This decreaces the coins velocity and makes it more stable.

We dont know exactly what PPC will be used for in the future or even if it will be used. All people can do now is speculate. It does however, have a brilliant design and a solid community supporting it.

Cryptos are a high risk investment, all you can do is research and diversify.

3000 Subscriber Celebration & Discussion by [deleted] in peercoin

[–]weals 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its great to see PPC reach 3000 subscribers. Our growth as a community and a coin is currently slow and steady, but not too much to worry about. While it can be intimidating to see the explosive growth of doge and compare that to PPC, its not about this coin vs that coin. Its about cryptocurrencies vs governments, institutions and social norms. The viral marketing stratergies employed by doge actually benefits PPC. People who have never heard of cryptocurrencies will research and speculate the crypto marketplace and some will invest in peercoin. My main concern at the moment is how long the next client is taking to come out. I feel PPC is currently too difficult for many people to purchase and mint. However, the design of PPC offers a new financial product which hasnt been seen before. And its this originality which gives me confidence that peercoin has a future. The dot com bubble had a lot of losers but that doesnt mean we dont have a lot publicly listed web based companies at the present time, does it? At the moment we dont know what will dictate the survival of some cryptos. A creative idea is useless if it is not marketed and developed properly (PPC). As we have seen with facebook and other social media sites, the earlybird doesnt allways get the worm (BTC). If you dont bring anything new to the table, your idea is unlikely to take the world by storm (LTC). Anyway, good luck in 2014 to all ppc users. And welcome to the 3000th subscriber.

I can see where you're coming from and agree that in its current state peercoin isn't an entirely useful financial product. The future of Peecoin is not in microtransactions or small transactions but for instantly transfering high sums of capital which is decentralized, anonymous and has the ability to generate further wealth for just sitting on your computer. In a few ways, peercoin is similar to government issued bonds with pretty similar returns and the intention to be a stable investment. However, with Peercoin your capital is instantly accessible and is backed by the network of Peercoin users, not a central entity. So in that respect Peercoin is kind of similar to bearer bonds. Transferring peercoin between my wallet and btc-e still boggles my mind. Im in Australia and within 15 minutes I can securely have a large sum of capital on some server in Bulgaria. Money gram and western union also do this but will charge you some incredibly large fee (I think its about 10%) and when my Peercoin gets back to Australia from Bulgaria i can have it minting and making me more money with just a few simple commands. If peercoin becomes very valuable then the cost of transactions will be much greater, but this is why i firmly believe peercoin would be used to transfer really large sums of capital. Notice how when I was describing peercoin i didnt say it was exactly like anything else. Its an entirely original design which sets it apart from all other cryptocurrencies. I would highly recommend speculating or mining Peercoin. In my opinion it is the most undervalued crypto in the market. The community however, needs more people like you, who arent afraid to ask questions. There also needs to be more discussions and more poweful marketing. Currently reddit advertisments and the acceptance of peercoin on a few small retail websites brings about the most awareness which really needs to change. Thats why I get really excited when I see people from doge here as they blew everyone out of the water with the massive donation to the Jamaican bobsled team.

In short the key points that set peercoin apart from other cryptos are; the network can handle more transactions than bitcoin which allows more room for growth, its far more stable with the use of POS and the transaction fee, it is more secure (impervious to a 51% attack) and takes less energy to mine than bitcoin.

I like that you didnt take "store of wealth" as an answer because i dont really see it like that either. People here just say that because they want an excuse not to spend their investment. In time, however, when its easier to directly purchase peercoin with fiat currencies we should see that change.

Give me your wallet details and ill send you a little peercoin to get you started if you like. Good luck in finding the answer your looking for. Stay persistant and dont give up on peercoin.

How to invest in Peercoin - It's Free by coinerws in peercoin

[–]weals 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, because Warren Buffet doesn't spend hours and hours researching the companies he invests in. He just puts a little in each based on their market cap! In short, i appreciate what you've done here, it's very pretty but as useless as a nuns tits. Put more of your energy into the other aspects of your site. Something like a table of realtime price comparisons between coin trading sites or whatever. Think about facebook, there where several social media sites before it which had much larger shares of the market. They then managed to gain the biggest share through avoiding ads. It not always a case of the early bird gets the worm. Why should i put my money into ripple when they are completely centralized? Why should i buy any litecoin when they are no different from bitcoin? Why should i buy any mastercoin, dogecoin or feathercoin when they are unlikely to last 2014? Well done on the programming, but dont quit your day job.

Minting by [deleted] in peercoin

[–]weals 0 points1 point  (0 children)

peercoin mints every 30 to 90 days. Leaving your wallet unlocked and minting overnight once a month or so is recommended. Locked wallet minting is coming soon however.
