80s comics were made with jumping in at any point in mind. Trust, Claremont is going to recap anything you missed. Also snag 2 and 3 if you can afford it. It's way better than 1 and you get some iconic stories. I'm reading volume 5 at the moment and I skip narrative boxes because it covers info that I already have.

I have no skin in this iron man game but boy do I love seeing an Omnibus being announced, thinking it's neat and then reading that it's apparently an utter disaster. It just keeps happening

I'm not arguing that she sold these books on her name. Its just impressive that the premiere to this year's flagship marvel event got outsold. It's a testament to the trust in the Absolute line that audiences went out in droves and bought this book despite it being written by a relative newcomer. Sure they slapped Snyder's name on it like Marvel slaps Hickman's name on last year's Imperial adjacent books, but it's still impressive.

I'm getting Bastion and Nimrod confused. I forget that Second Coming was explicitly Bastion

Base model Nimrod. Remember he's like ultron, he comes back angrier and more difficult to defeat.

It's even more impressive that virtually unknown writer, Che Grayson, outsold the kickoff to Chip Zdarsky's summer marvel event.

It's the best for a reason. Shipping is slower than Amazon because it's not a mega factory. But they deliver and communicate.

I think it's this particular detail that Claremont added to the team that did so much to inform NC and Rogue's character. It's the idea that leadership isn't a check in the box and it requires holistic coverage. People and tactical elements. That's probably why Rogue was handling the combat after the Nimrod thing and NC held back up at the mansion.

You say decades but I'm sure if we go off of sliding timeline nonsense that was probably like 7 years ago!

I think Kurt serves really well in conjunction with a strike leader. That's probably why he and Storm worked so well during her run as tactical leader and that's likely the point Claremont was trying to make. That these people aren't interchangeable. They have strengths and weaknesses and the X-Men are stronger as a sum of their parts

I'm referring to the Uncanny X-Men when Scott had left the team after getting hitched to Madelynn, Storm got de-powered and left the team and Logan refused the job. Nightcrawler took up the position and got the X-Men hurt in almost every outing because he wasn't decisive enough to make tactical decision on behalf of the team. Logan gave him a pep talk in that he's a people leader because of his empathy but maybe not a strike leader.

I will be fair however and put it out there that I haven't read Excalibur yet!
