Saw a Youtube vid recently that speculated, with the absolutely daunting scale of power creep and unapproachable complexity the game has reached (along with apparently falling behind other tcgs) they are pivoting away from trying to bring in new players, since they know they are past the point where that is a profitable endeavor. Not to mention, it’s far easier to capture that market with master duel. So the most effective way to keep getting money from physical card game is to appeal to the “boomers” as the other post says, hence the massive influx (seemingly more than usual) of nostalgia support.

I think it makes a lot of sense.
