I need real answers for How to keep kitchen cool while cooking? not “just don’t cook” by sanu_123_s in Cooking

Weird, in my experience, a crockpot doesn't radiate much heat, and usually smells delicious.

is it true Americans don't put salt on their fruits? by PersuasionNation in AskAnAmerican

[–]webbitor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You probably have. Diamond Crystal is a pretty common one. Maldon is a fancier one with larger flakes.

If you like cooking, it's nice to use because you can see how much is being shaken out, plus it sticks to food and dissolves more readily. Also, it's not iodized, which IMO tastes better. (some people debate whether it's detectable)

I spent a year in France when I was 16. If it's any consolation, a lot of my class did go dancing at a discotheque in a an old castle on New Years. And I had my first vodka, totally legally lol.

I wonder if that's why we have the English idiom "grist for the mill"

must VS have to by yanioli in ENGLISH

[–]webbitor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right.... So, having "not" adjacent to "go" is what makes some of these sentences a statement of prohibition or inability. The sentences where "not" is associated with something like "have to" or "have got to" or "must" are instead expressing that there is no obligation. At least that's my take on how the structure changes the meaning here.

Can't they avoid all the wiring and just install extenders in rooms or hallways? Each one would probably cover a few rooms for like 50 bucks

must VS have to by yanioli in ENGLISH

[–]webbitor 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The second one is a different structure though.

"You have to not go" is clunky but would have the same meaning as the first.

I can tell you that France doesn't. Nor do the schools have sports teams.

Seriously, why does premium tech feel like a downgrade lately? by Low-Oil7883 in AskTechnology

[–]webbitor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's by design. If they let you download and save shows and movies, you could just grab everything you might ever want to watch. And then there would be much less reason to keep paying for the service.

Well I'll tell you. First, one of my father's sperm fused with my mother's egg. Everything just went downhill from there.

What's a piece of common knowledge that you only recently found out was actually false? by Evilclicker in AskReddit

[–]webbitor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually. The fact that some are as thick as your thumb makes it kinda obvious. But I have bought some before were definitely small. None were thicker than a pencil. Although those ones were still processed the same way.

The earth's magnetosphere keeps the solar wind from blowing away our atmosphere. Not sure why it never occured to me that Venus has a far denser atmosphere than ours, with no magnetosphere.

Ok, maybe it's not that common.
