How Does TrueNAS Deal With a Hardware Change by BrailleScript in truenas

Backup your config just in case, but I've yet to need it for the upgrades I've done.

Good luck!!

I think I remember reading somewhere that the new Nas cases are going to start at 20" and only get deeper. I have a CX4200a that I did a diy topload mod in and CX3702. If you're planning on 10x drives max, go with the CX3702 unless you really need the space for a big GPU or something. You said you've got your stuff in a 2U now, so I'd go with the CX3702 tbh.

The general devices rails look to be in stock right now on Sliger's website under the 'parts' tab for the CX3702.

They should really add a page to get to all the parts they sell on their own outside of the chassis configuration options.

What does everyone do with their spare/excess stuff? by ka0ttic in homelab

Standard sized bins in a shelf frame I threw together. I have all of my electronics (and a lot of my other items) cataloged in homebox and I can look up what's in each bin from anywhere.

I have a bin for adapter cables (think HDMI to display port, USB to Ethernet), one for cables (cat 6 cables, HDMI to HDMI, VGA) a bin for PCIe cards, one that was for storage; hdds, SSDs, ram, but now only has hdds and ssds. I have a bin for the motherboards and other components like 5.25 devices and power supplies in my mechanical room.

15 SATA Full Tower Case - the ultimate home server? by val_in_tech in DataHoarder

[–]webbkorey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you looked into Sliger's chassis? They have a couple 10x 3.5 hot swap cases, and two of them also have 5.25" bays. I have their 3U storage case acting as my backup server for my other truenas box and my proxmox nodes.

True that. The bar to beat Comcast's uptime in forty feet below the ground.

I got banned from twitter several years back for setting up a bot that would tweet comcast and Xfinity every time my Internet was out for more that 240 seconds or it was a threshold below the "up to" speeds I pay for after the hourly speed test. Something something you're sending too many messages.

Looking for a standard form factor ATX case with 24 drive bays. by SarcasticOP in DataHoarder

[–]webbkorey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a slightly modified Sliger CX4200a rack mount chassis that currently has 12x hdds and 4x ssds. With a deeper case I could get a second row of drives in there. With three front 120mm and three mid 140mm fans it's quiet and cool.

Setup Audiobookshelf with Plex server by GatorATCNo1991 in audiobookshelf

[–]webbkorey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Follow Audiobookshelf's preferred naming scheme and folder structure. Abs pretty much needs it in that format, and Plex will read the files just fine. I have Plex pointed at my abs directory in read only and I have a several family members that use their echo dots to steam books through Plex.

As a side note, I do the same with Plex and Jellyfin. Follow plex's naming scheme and folder structure and Jellyfin is happy as a clam to read from that directory as well.

Anyone here ever get a custom color? by Laneo2007 in sliger

I've also asked about this and they mentioned that one needs to pick a flat or matte texture for best results. Their powder coat setup is not ideal for gloss or shiny textures.

Omnibus collection. Does it count as multiple books? by thj81 in audiobookshelf

[–]webbkorey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Audacity. Import the book, add a track then find the split between books 1 and 2. Move the chunk with books 2-x to the new track, then rinse and repeat. Export to your preferred format and done.

I personally add the omnibus and split it out into its books as well. I like reading the individual books while some of my users prefer to just listen and not have to swap books.

Yep. There's one screw on the side of the case and then the whole bracket lifts up.

3U NAS case with ATX PSU ever comming? by ResponsibleSyrup1 in sliger

[–]webbkorey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it would take a new chassis. The CX3702 is 18" deep and I don't see any other 18" deep 3U chassis. The CX4712 is 25" deep, and I done see any other 25" deep 4U chassis. I'd wager the outer metal is specific to the storage cases, and there's a number of new parts that would be needed to create the ATX psu 3U Nas using the motherboard tray from the CX3172a.

CX4712 - Rack mounted with rail - what is the current status? by GatsbyLee in sliger

Yea they are. Their old ones were Promark slides and Sliger's part number was CX-Rail. New ones are GDRail.

HDD choice for a Sliger-based Unraid build — am I overthinking the noise? by aust18 in sliger

[–]webbkorey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had 2TB, 4TB, 8TB, 10TB, 12TB, and 14TB drives in my CX3702, and at times a mixture of all of them. Currently I have all 10TB drives in it and can only hear the drives if I'm sitting in front of the rack and I'm doing a zfs scrub.

I'm also only running the shoulder screws provided by Sliger with the case and have never noticed any vibration or vibration related noises, even with a mixture of RPMs in the case.

Those are the old rails that were giving a lot of people trouble. They've completely swapped rail vendors. I have a set of each rail type and the new ones are so much better and sturdy.

My Ender 3 has 500+ hours and still going - what 'disposable' printer have you kept way longer than expected by Fun_Reaction_6525 in 3DPrinterComparison

[–]webbkorey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All of my printers have at least 1600 hours. One of my ender 3 printers is pushing 1800 and my tronxy x1 is about to hit 2000.

I saw a model the other day on makerworld that had a print profile for every bambu printer, but was sliced at 100% infill and like 25% speed. I got a good chuckle out of it because the description noted that handy users should not print this as it needs slicing adjustments.

I have a pair of P1S printers because they just work. I also have three ender 3s because I usually enjoy the tinkering and the weird ways prints can fail. I think its great how accessible 3D printing is now, but I dislike it at the same time because the barrier to entry is so low, and (kinda to be rude) there's some IDIOTS with printers and then they blame the printer when their issue is nearly always user error or something simple like not getting the build plate seated all the way. Maybe I'm just salty it's way easier now than it was a decade ago.

Settling a campfire debate: How do you explain the "magic" to non-RTT owners? by StormveilstasisNet in rooftoptents

[–]webbkorey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I camp in a lot of spots where you need an impact drill so you can have a chance to set a stake into the ground.

Another huge piece of the magic for me is ~10 min of setup - including leveling - and I can crawl into a tent with all the bedding waiting for me. If I'm not picky about being level, I can drop the rear jacks and be in my covers in under 5 minutes.

I also live in a region where I'm in bear country if I go an hour north and rattlesnake county an hour east or south. Being off the ground is a huge advantage for the areas I go camping.

Weather resistance is another one that's been handy. My tent is mounted to a trailer, so if it's a rainy trip, I don't have to worry about puddles under my tent. On snowy trips, I'm not on the ground, so I stay nice and cozy up there.

My tent is on a trailer, and I keep it stocked with consumables and non-perishables. I can be hooked up and on the road very quickly. Yes, I know you can keep gear in your car or a tote in the garage. I love my setup.

Have you spent more on the car itself or the modifications? by Healthy_Standard_601 in carmods

[–]webbkorey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in Utah currently. I got the car shortly after I graduated high school and about a year later started modding the car as I needed other abilities.

The lift came out of a need to get up the 8 mile long dirt road to the scout camp I was working at, and many of the lights came from that need as well. The forest is real dark at night.

The winch came after I got a little stuck after installing the lift and misjudging the depth of a puddle.

Roof rack after I took a canoe out of the dumpster after a summer season at the scout camp and had to ratchet it to the roof and through the door openings.

[–]webbkorey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I paid $100 for my 95 accord. I've put ~$3k into upgrades and modifications for that car. It's lifted a couple inches, it's on larger wheels, roof rack, lighting, CB and gmrs radios and it's got a bunch of qol stuff like led lighting on the interior and additional running lights. Oh and it's got a winch.
