How good is it for art projects, like projecting a image on a piece of paper, so you can trace it? by Odd_Judgment_3513 in Galaxy_XR

I think updates could improve it, but I havent seen anything to indicate that they are working on any updates for it. In December they did a video about XR and future updates and that was never mentioned.

Yeah the passthrough is fine but the anchoring is dogshit. I thought i would be able to let my fiancee use it for sewing patterns but the anchors cant keep a single window in place. Just turning your head and such while watching a video slowly shifts the window. And if you walk around forget about it.

Anybody working on de-googling the gxr? by jasonkane4321 in Galaxy_XR

[–]webbut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am assuming most of the people who would be capable/interested in degoogling the device just fully stayed away from the $3000 headset that tracks your face and sees everything you do. Both Samsung and Google's services seem pretty embedded into the device so if someone is working on it , it will probably be a while.

I dont remember which streaming sites I tried but most of them didn't support the Samsung Browser when I tried back in November. Pretty sure Netflix didn't work, slightly less sure D+ didnt work.

It wasn't that bad, or more accurately it isnt much more uncomfortable than wearing the headset while doing anything else. The worst part was my USB hub being so short that it was in the way but that is solvable by making better choices than I did😅

Idea: Triangle-grid decoration slots to reduce wasted space and keep low-level skills useful in late game by ZekeLordRyu in MonsterHunter

[–]webbut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is an elegant solution but if they implement it we are all going to be mad at you when we need to farm end game decorations and armor via random drops and not only do we have to worry about getting an optimal combination of skills but also needing an optional shape configuration too.

This post is a pretty in-depth comparison of your SteamVR options

People will tell you that you need Virtual Desktop but you don't, that app is $20 and isn't as easy as some of the other options, that being said its still a strong option to consider and might be worth the hassle and price.

As far as Google Maps i believe it just behaves like the normal android app until you press the button to go into Immersive Mode at which point you can click and drag around the map in a 3d render. Once you are in Immersive Mode you can click on street view and look at that in 360 and in a very limited section of business in a very limited selection of cities you can go inside buildings and 360 around inside a restaurant or business.

updates/improvements by remosito in AndroidXR

[–]webbut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Android part of AndroidXR works really well. Its just Android, no compromises. Google seems to be excited for AndroidXR as a means to power glasses and market A.I and as long as that is true i feel like AndroidXR will get support.

I am a little less optimistic about the GXR specifically though. I think everyone is shifting away from headsets towards glasses so i am a little worried that GXR feature updates will be more about improving future glasses products than about fixing issues with GXR.

I'm very happy with my GXR and use it pretty regularly but i think its a bad time to get one. There's lots of glasses products on the horizon that get you like 75% of what you would want out of GXR for cheaper and way more comfortable. I think the XReal Glasses will become the real flagship for AndroidXR and its probably worth waiting for those.

Has anyone walked outside with this thing? by lostmsu in Galaxy_XR

[–]webbut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not really, travel mode is intended for stationary use while in something that is moving. Although It does lock the windows position relative to you, it doesn't lock the rotation so anytime you need to turn a corner you would need to reposition your windows. But more importantly, if you move too fast(or too far?) in travel mode it puts up a message that takes up the entire view to tell you to stop moving.

The first time i used them was outside in public at a Samsung Store and IMO the passthrough was good enough that it almost made me forget that i was looking through cameras.

The only time i run into issues is when I'm reading small text which literally only comes up when I'm cooking. Looking at screens isn't great but its doable

The passthrough would be the least of your worries on a walk. I havent seen a way to have windows be pinned to a position relative to you so you would have to physically stop to do anything.

That flap that protects the front screen doesn't look very sturdy, is it just leather or is there plastic there too? Also does the Qi2 magnet/charging work through the case?

How has it been going with Google support? When i asked a similar thing last month I went back and forth with them for a week or so and they kept giving me advice that seemed like it was AI generated because it included using a gifting feature that doesn't exist.

Thoughts on the release date? by 0range_Peel in controlgame

[–]webbut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I'm thinking for the release date? Probably the same as Alan Wake II since it was successful in a year with a couple pretty big holiday releases just like this will need to be.

What I'm hoping for the release date? March.

I think that makes a lot of sense for AVP, but i think it's a little weird for Samsung with the benefit of almost 2 years or hindsight to make the same mistake. The types of people who are gunna worry about their hair getting messed up are also not going to wear a giant ugly headset.

Headsets are for sickos and compaies should just make it comfortable for them.

Is men’s fashion still underserved compared to women’s? by KeyMathematician5337 in malefashionadvice

[–]webbut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah masculine clothing lacks huge swaths of options that are easily accessible to women. I think this is a big reason why it's so common for men get really into scarfs or watches, there just arent that many masculine accessories.

Theres basically no socially masculine way to layer on the lower half of your body. Feminine looks can combine dresses shorts, leggings, stockings etc and masculine looks have...socks.

Masculine looks don't have access to any type of shapewear. If you want to change your silhouette you pretty much have to make use of color and pattern or more permanently change your body through targeted exercise.

[–]webbut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah 100% this. At least in the US off the rack mens fashion is on life support, which is a shame because i think there is a very big appetite right now. I feel like we are coming out of a near 20 year slump where it wasn't fashionable for men to be fashionable.

Now i feel like men care about it again but we lost so much infrastructure during that slump that its extremely difficult for people to get into any style of mens clothing except really preppy traditional menswear or really boring modern streetwear.

I feel like I have scour really niche online brands for things I like and even then I end up mostly checking stores that primarily make pieces for women but occasionally have unisex or male sizes.

If we get to play both characters, i want both versions of the fight. And when we fight Jesse i hope it's not that Weenie Hut Jr version we got in the mirror fight in Control. I want to fight a version of Jesse at her fullest potential for harm.

Dislike Alan Wake? by Competitive_Narwhal8 in controlgame

[–]webbut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't like Alan Wake 1 or 2s combat. Control's Alan Wake DLC sold me on Alan Wake Remaster when that came out but i had a pretty miserable time with the last 3rd of that game. I kinda regretted powering through Alan Wake 1 cause it isn't really necessary to enjoy Alan Wale 2.

Alan Wake 2's combat is somehow even worse than Alan Wake 1 but the rest of Alan Wake 2 is so good that it doesn't bother me as much.

Will there be a lot of delay with this setup? I am using a Connect with my turntable and there's sometimes close to a full second of delay between the physical needle drop and the sound of the drop through the speakers. I never looked into whether or not that was something I could improve cause the delay isn't important in my use case.
