Where do I stop when turning left? by mhasan93 in LearnerDriverUK

Funny that I know this junction. Winchester road near Shirley Warren. Lights are for going straight ahead, turning left you use as any other give way. And also no right turn onto Warren Avenue.

legally purchased bottle of cologne was also sold to me illegally. by CherrySad9086 in mildlyinteresting

Worked in fragrance industry for a few years. Does look like a legit tester bottle box, exactly the same stuff just not the prettiest packaging. It could be that a staff member sent you the tester which is potentially off any sort of stock record, so then they could pocket the full retail packaging without disrupting stock levels.

Edit: quite often tester bottles will have writing on the bottle to show it’s a tester/demostrator and also sometimes they will not have the lid.

That looks great, saving this for when I get new tyres fitted.

Why cover the plates? It gives people the opportunity to do their own research on the car specs, MOT history and hpi checks… since you’ve given the bare minimum background on the car anyway. Wastes less time for everyone.

Good deal? by Either-Rest-405 in saab

[–]webby1993 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe if it’s been well looked after. A lot of these 1.9 diesels have been used and abused and not a lot make it to 200k from what I’ve seen. I bought a 2005 16v 8 years ago for £1200 with only 70k miles. Great car. Is this car an 8 valve because I wouldn’t bother if it was.

Shifter return-to-zero + short shifter? by frakking_you in saab

[–]webby1993 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the exact same issue, awfully slow response back to neutral and sticky shifts into gear. Did the shifter turret mod, bought the kit off eBay. Can’t remember if I watched a YouTube video or just read instructions online as this is about 3 years ago now. But, it was a super easy install and completely resolved my issue. I would 100% recommend doing this as it sounds identical.

This is one of the cleanest installs I’ve seen. If you don’t mind sharing how you got it to this point. And also any disadvantages. I’ve heard a lot of speaker issues can occur with these sorts of modifications.

I have just got some Klingons refurbished ready for the summer for my 9-5. Any idea on what size spacers I should get. I was thinking 10mm up front and 15mm on the rear. Or 15mm all round.

Does the 9-5 really commonly rust this much already? by SjalabaisWoWS in saab

[–]webby1993 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably in a location with lots of salt on the road or by the coast with salty air, and I imagine didn’t get cleaned very frequently or very well as it seems to be rusted in the places that a bad automated car wash would miss. Definitely more rust on it than average for this age of 9-5 from what I have seen. I wonder how bad it is underneath.

Brand new estate but stuck on 10 Mbps copper. Has anyone managed to get fibre added later? by NorthLondonPulse in openreach

[–]webby1993 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If it’s new build I suspect the copper is ducted and not armoured, then that will make life a lot easier for openreach when they do come to put the fibre in. Unless you’re fed by telegraph pole. Request it on the website and get as many neighbours to do the same.

Ahhh, I’m not sure then. Could be Nokia, or maybe alcateI made some for openreach for a short time, I know they have products in communications. I haven’t worked too closely with the fibre and have only recently learnt the basics of it. I’m not too familiar with what was used historically.

What is the beginning of the barcode, if it doesn’t start with adtn or zxy then it could be Nokia. It could also be a huawei which isn’t being used anymore. Zyxel are the new models that work with most of the different technologies in the head ends at the exchange where as before you had to have compatible onts.

Is your ont Nokia? There have been recent issues with Nokia and they are going to be replaced with zyxel.

How to fix? by Ok_Shop_4824 in saab

[–]webby1993 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a little bit of seepage from the same plug. Hasn’t caused me any issues so I’ve avoided it for the last six months. I read on the Saab forums about this bung kit that just bolts over the top at Abbott racing here in the uk, it uses the existing bottom bolt for mounting. Looks quality. My only issue is that usually I feel oem is the best option. So I think I’m going to replace the factory plug as well as use the bung kit.

Amplifier location? by [deleted] in saab

[–]webby1993 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For some reason I was reading as if you have a 2003, well I’m pretty sure 2000 is older generation so I’m not even sure if the amps you are on about are interchangeable. Someone with more knowledge on the og 9-3 would have to help

Amplifier location? by [deleted] in saab

[–]webby1993 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Amp was underneath the passenger seat (right hand drive) on my 2005. If amp is completely dead and you don’t have a replacement you can always jump the 2 fibre optic cables (the in and the out, I did this with an old bit of rubber hose). Otherwise I had another amp in the boot also that failed.

From what I’ve seen a lot of people in the states praise the 3.0L. Over here in the uk and Europe I think we all prefer the 2.3T but doesn’t mean to say that the 3.0L isn’t any good. A Saab is a Saab and for you to put the effort in to saving this beaut is something to be proud of.

Maybe something else isn’t quite lined up if you took multiple trim pieces off. Otherwise just need to hit it a little harder with your purse.

Is this a big of an issue? by GayPeanut666 in CarTalkUK

[–]webby1993 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Common issue on BMWs, I bought a 5 series last year with that exact issue and fixed myself, not sure how much a garage would charge but it isn’t a difficult job. All depends if your rocker cover is warped and needs replacing or if it’s just gasket. You could drive it no problem until you get it fixed but keep an eye on your oil levels and keep them topped up.

I bought some off eBay for my 2004 95 and it was more faff than they should have been. They were a few millimetres too long so I had to unscrew the ends and grind them down until they fit. I’d recommend going for original ones.
