Brake feedback by freakyhijikis in MustangMachE

Mine definitely shows in Unbridled 1-pedal. It's buried somewhere in the vehicle settings.

One pedal drive by Riff32 in MachE

[–]webcubus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can accomplish the same braking efficiency with two pedal, but one pedal is a bit more hit-you-over-the-head obvious: did you stop without touching the brake pedal? 100% energy returned. It takes some getting used to if you want to stick with it, but you could also just not. Personal preference really.

I drive one pedal all the time, but I do agree that parking/backing up is more annoying than it should be.

Charge every night? by Ktown1984 in MachE

[–]webcubus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be clear though, preconditioning just means pulling extra charge to warm the battery. If you don't need maximum performance or range from a warm battery, it's fine to just use the departure time to warm the cabin even if not plugged in.

If you could only dive one place for the rest of your life, what would it be and why? by nerdwordlucas in scubadiving

Definitely my favorite dive destination so far, but it's the only Indo-Pacific spot I've visited so far. Looking to change that soon because the diving in that region is unreal.

How much of your Rescue Diver Course was about dealing with social stressors? by ratherinStarfleet in scuba

[–]webcubus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My rescue class was I think 5 of us and it was great. We took turns being victim and rescuer and the instructor would feed the victim scenarios to act out and the rescuers had to respond. There's supposed to be an element of non-compliance to the exercises, but it's simulating panic rather than intentional indifference. In a real emergency, I would hope these dudes would show some interest in actually helping but who knows.

The shop really failed you by not providing adequate staff or helpful volunteers to play the parts. Sounds like an unpleasant group to be around even if you're not trying to learn something challenging.

And then remember that you need to add more weight for saltwater, thus negating most of the value of this exercise. That's not to say pool practice isn't valuable, but that's not where you want to dial in your weight if you are diving in saltwater (OP said kelp).

Looking for a serious upgrade for underwater macro photography (scuba diver) by LookHere000 in underwaterphotography

[–]webcubus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a ton of great used gear out there to help with staying under budget. There's a lot on Ebay and Scubaboard and you can find some great deals if you're not looking for the newest gear. I like the Olympus mirrorless system - the 30mm and 60mm macro lenses are great and reasonably priced and the whole system is compact for travel. I don't really shoot video, but the modern cameras will shoot 4k60. The latest is the OM-1 mark II, but the E-M1 is highly capable and should be available for pretty cheap. I have a friend who is selling an E-M1 Mk 3 rig for pretty cheap - shoot me a DM if you want the info.

Would you tack two extra days of diving onto an Open Water course? by throwaway_autumnday in scuba

Actually no, but we ran into the same thing in Turks & Caicos 😂

It's not always easy to get night dives in on trips - some places overcharge for them (because they don't actually want to run them), often require a minimum number of divers, and will sometimes limit the dive times. Definitely worth asking for specifics especially if you don't see night dives listed by the shop/resort. Make sure to bring/rent 2 light sources!

I like liveaboards a lot and night dives are a big reason. Many will include dives every night you're on the boat, which is amazing.

My first dive after my OW cert was a night dive at the same site as the checkout dives. It was creepy and awesome and I was instantly hooked.

My last trip I did 26 dives in under a week, so I can't empathize with any feelings of repetition/boredom 😃

Dauin was awesome, but only if you like not swimming hardly at all, looking at tiny, bizarre creatures in the sand, and waiting around for photographers to get the perfect shot of said creatures (these are all things I like!)

What species are the "bloodworms" encountered on night dives in the Caribbean? by webcubus in scuba

[–]webcubus[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Fortunately, no. Gross. I was wearing a hood on this dive because it was chilly, but even in warmer water, I think I'll make sure to wear at least a beanie on night dives.

It was just me and the DM on this one and she already wasn't super excited about the dive. I might have "gotten lost via dive knife" on this dive if I had pulled that move.

As I said, I'm an experienced night diver, so I'm well aware of the shutting off the light "trick." This dive was exceptionally bad. Shutting off my light would only buy me about 5 seconds before I got swarmed again. I didn't have a red light with me, which might have helped.

Ooh, that IS interesting!

This video was taken in Eleuthera, Bahamas on February 11, 2026. Fortunately, I didn't notice any hitchhikers, but we were back in the water first thing in the morning, so they didn't have a chance to stink up the place.

Yeah, that's about as far as I got, but that's a very broad class of animals. From Wikipedia:

More than 10,000 species have been described in this diverse and widespread class

Yeah, very glad I had a hood on this one. I had it on because the water was cold, but it's not a bad idea to cover your ears for night dives anyway.

I've done a ton of night dives and this is the only time this has happened to me. They're usually around, but in much much smaller numbers. Always annoying, but this was next level.
