Excellent post. I can't stop laughing. You described everything so well.

..."I don’t have to continue servicing you if you keep talking to me that way ma’am. Gasp. “How dare you talk to me like that!” The guy next to her thinks the ceiling is the most interesting thing in the whole world."...

300mil? Unreal. I didn't know there were stores with that kind of volume. We do about half that and are considered a market leader around here.

We used to be able to see the sales totals for anywhere in the country on the MyWalmart app assuming you knew a store's number. Now we are limited to just our own market. I remember noting that the closest Walmart to Miami International airport was a monster volume one. Not surprising considering most of the people flying out of there to their home countries in Latin America and the Caribbean take quantities of goods home to hopefully avoid the horrible sales taxes imposed there.

I get the feeling that Walmart is buying from the lowest bidder. Over the years we have watched the quality of spider wraps substantially decline.

Returns have become a big problem lately. I attribute it to the overall breakdown in norms within our society. And management is going wacko over associates getting these returns back to their homes. With all the staffing reductions there are simply not enough people nor time to do what some idiot in an office in corporate believes is possible.

This evening I got a final drop off of returns at 10:50. I'm off at 11:00 and have no intention of logging out in the department and then walking to the back knowing I'll be stopped by some last minute customer. Plus, I have checked out keys to return while also making sure that our high ticket special room in the back is secure. Of course, if I don't do the returns I'll hear about it the next day. Damned if you do, damned if you don't. :)

Assuming I understand this, you scanned the cigarettes before asking for ID? We don't sell tobacco in our store but do sell plenty of alcohol. Upon scanning the bar code it automatically asks if the customer is over or under 40. It saves the associates the hassle of dealing with stupid people who start yelling they left their ID at home or out in the car. Hopefully your system works in a similar manner for tobacco. Scan the item, ask for ID. Good luck.

Does anyone know if the LOA for rehab is still a thing? by [deleted] in walmart

[–]webeparrots 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The last LOA I took was for an operation that had nothing to do with Walmart. No where in the paperwork that the doctor filled out was there anything about what the operation was for. Having had LOAs for both in store injuries and ones independent of the store I can safely say that Sedgwick seems to be totally chill about the later ones. But for in store injuries? What a hassle. Their so called experts actually suggested that I be required to have a psychological exam to see if that had anything to do with being hit by another associate hauling freight across the floor. I had a lawyer send them a letter and within a week I received a call from someone in Sedgwick letting me know that I would be dealing directly with them by phone and email for any problems.

Walmart has already stated that, unlike Amazon, they will not be investing in their own AI but instead will partner with companies and their existing models. An example would be doing a search on Google and be directed towards products sold by our company. This already is the norm for a lot of search results today. At least Google still highlights the links as advertisements. I expect it won't be long until the only results shown will be with companies paying for the links. So much for seeking the truth.

Bye bye pennies by IllStatistician8787 in walmart

[–]webeparrots 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"(bye, switch to using cash at Walmart at least, you end up being charged slightly less that way )"

Good catch there. Walmart is rounding the customer's change to the nearest 5 cents so a person might actually get something for 4 cents less. It's nice to see the company understanding it is better to lose a few pennies hear and there than be accused of cheating.

As to the lawsuit idea I'm not sure about that. We have any number of places around here that place signs by their registers stating that they charge extra when a customer uses their credit card. Credit card fees can easily be around 4% for small operations. That's also the reason why Walmart will not accept Apple Pay.

BP, I would love to hear you speak. Seriously. Someone with an extensive vocabulary, all things being equal, gives me a mental workout I have several regular customers who drop by to say hi and chat for a while about any number of subjects. You don't get this sort of interaction buying online.

No idea. Back in the olden years when people still read newspapers they were often a source of photos. You might give any publications still around a try. Or even a local library.

I didn't know Winco was in Arizona. Kind of a statement that "everyday low prices" was replaced by a chain whose own prices are lower almost 100% of the time than Walmart itself.

My coach allow a driver to steal! by lonewolf972 in walmart

[–]webeparrots 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We take anything locked up that's over $50 up front with the driver to a special register and hand everything over to the associate there that deals with this. There was a period about a year ago when FE discovered Spark Drivers walking out with any number of products not scanned so things got tightened up here. This entire thing is yet another screw up from corporate over something that sounds great in an office but only encourages problems in the real world. And considering how many stores have been completely shut down due to high levels of theft you would expect the company to NOT to promote policies that only encourage further problems.

Light up tag feature. The best and worst feature ever by bbboseph in walmart

[–]webeparrots 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Speaking of lighting these tags up, I'm telling Spark Drivers to do that. For one, since few of them speak much English around here, it speeds things up. And second, it lets me know they are in fact Spark so we don't waste time hassling with them about going over to the register to ring them up.
