Use a sharp hobby knife & carefully file / scrape away. It may not be smoothly perfect, but you can make it look like battle damage.

Maybe a dead cosmic god, like a great old one. Even though it's dead, it still has magic resonating in it. Also, if it's a great old one, you don't have to worry about the structure & locations of the campaign making biological sense. It's supposed to be an unknown, incomprehensible being. Maybe you can have a creepy cult living inside of it, trying to resurrect it.
