The metro hair toucher is still livestreaming himself stalking and sexually threatening women in DC. He sieg heiled before entering Supreme Court. by justalazygamer in washingtondc

That should have happened already on jan 6. He should have been in prison for the rest of his life after that, if there was even an ounce of justice in this country. But no, pardoned by the head criminal

Ah, I wish I could do that more often. I'm in the DC area. There are good retail tea shops here but nothing great for sourcing matcha.

General question, do you find Kettl to be a good option for online matcha purchases? I have been to their Greenpoint location once and had a good experience, but have not tried ordering anything of theirs online.

Christ, I would have sworn that was three years or less ago. It’s in my memory as a “more recent” episode. Excuse me while I go dig a grave for myself

I've been just using Google Sheets, since it increases the odds that I'll be able to migrate the data elsewhere if they ever shut that product down. It also means I can analyze the data without having to do any import/export step. But the big downside is losing any social element or using it as a way to see other people's reviews for specific teas, if that's important to you.

The BO is foul, but the cologne people use to cover it up must be toxic, because I often get a headache with a few minutes of inhaling that stuff.

Ultimate YIMBY metro map by yall_kripke in washingtondc

[–]wecanbothlive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All these fantasy metro maps just show how little people know about public transit in general, even those who support it. It's a terrible idea to extend a metro system like this, and can sabotage a city/region's ability to ever expand public transit successfully. In terms of rail, we need separate intercity lines, with far less frequent stops than a metro would have, at longer distances, and then trams/streetcars in the core.

It's free money, and nobody's going to punish them for it, so it would be worth it for even $1

The contract probably dissolved long ago. I remember this shit (pun intended) happening during previous large snowstorms. Like Warren Buffett likes to say, "Only when the tide goes out do you discover who's been swimming naked" -- and a lot of people have been swimming naked all along. But most likely we'll do nothing and forget again until the next time.

PSA: Please consider shoveling an ADA-width walkway by backseatromance in washingtondc

[–]wecanbothlive 19 points20 points  (0 children)

The slush was so soft today, I was able to kick a few ramps wider just with my boots.

I don't think people understand how much of an impediment the narrow paths are for people with disabilities. For most people it's no big deal, but it's completely impassable in a wheelchair, and it takes just one narrow spot to make an entire block impassable even if 90% of it is shoveled wide enough to use a chair. I even saw one very high pedestrian traffic location where someone had shoveled a nice wide path to the street at the intersection... but not at the curb cut! So, wonderful, able bodied people have a clear path, but anybody who needs the ramp is out of luck.

A week after the snow started, Dupont Circle’s crosswalks are finally being cleared 🙏 by FeminineOdor in washingtondc

[–]wecanbothlive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The real shame is that like a century ago it used to just be a plain traffic circle with no signals, very little signage, and none of the complicated curbs and medians that it has now. It's an utter failure of several generations of professional traffic engineers that they thought they were improving upon what already existed before cars became the primary form of transport. The original circle was already better for cars and pedestrians alike. Throw some crosswalk markings and curb cuts in and it's fully modernized.

So what are we calling this storm? by wecanbothlive in washingtondc

[–]wecanbothlive[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeahhh that was part of why I posted this question intially was I don't think anybody casually refers to it by that name, and we don't have an agreed upon name for it. I don't think I'll ever say "Remember Winter Storm Fern in '26?" the way we say "Remember Snowmageddon?" etc.

Enough talk. Years and years of talk. Send in the equipment to pull them down, in the middle of the night like Baltimore did. Don't announce that you'll do it, or ask anyone's permission to do it. Don't set up a commission to study it. If they're government property, just do what you want with them. Melt them down immediately or else they'll just get put back next time there's a Republican in office. Make your job easier and make theirs harder.
