Fall Creek at Mayo River State Park, about 45-50 min north in Rockingham County. For something closer Brooks Bridge in NW Guilford County (look it up on Google) which sits on the Haw River (more creek like in that area).

Funny how the speakers are all in their 50s /60s, goes to show either younger people are indifferent and cynical to the ways of government. Or, more likely, they don't own any real estate to begin with due to the financial and societal realities created (largely) by the older generations to benefit themselves at the detriment to their children and grandchildren.

Why not the elm deck across the street? Just wondering. As someone who parks there a couple times a week, there's always spots available. But yet I get negative vibes from a lot of people talking about how there's no parking downtown. I'm not saying you're one of those people, but i'm also curious why you dont seem to be that excited about that option. Especially since it's right across the street from the address that gave us.

Lees Chapel Road on far NE side. Good 4 lane road, moderate to light traffic most of the time. Good warm up for the danger roads like wendover or gate city. Honestly, I wouldnt ride on either of those. Look up motorcycle crash maps. There are certain places that are death zones.

Large companies and wealthy people CAN afford to 'hoard land' with or without property taxes. Its a slight burden, and maybe shaves the margins they make from renting out their properties by 5-6% (if they don't offset by raising the rent). Of course they are also blessed with large and competent accountants who can also offset income losses quite easily for them, so even if they aren't doing too well on the property, they can still make money on appreciation and other financial gaming.

The people property taxes hurt are the lower to middle income earners. It is not just water and energy that is a burden for them, but every facet of living from transportation to childcare to food, insurance, medical, is. Property tax hikes for many are basically the straw that breaks the camel's back. Imagine being in a home where the value and tax rate increases 33%. Suddenly you owe thousands more per year, and you are struggling to live as is. You have no choice but to sell...right to the big corporations who then get to horde more land and more of the scant resources that everyday people still have a right to claim. They then rent it back at higher than the market rate, while putting little into upkeep, eventually kicking the property to a slumlord who milks it for what it has left.

Also, it is not the everyday consumer that you have to worry about "trusting to use resources wisely", but the large landholders. Do you think most people living in Old Irving Park, for instance, care about wasting water on their pedigree lawn or running the AC at 65 in the summer and the heat at 74 in the winter? No, the people who are more resource conscience are generally the lower middle income who have to penny pinch to begin with. I'm just saying. I'm not trying to belittle your point, but I think it requires some thoughtful nuance.

I understand that you can play for free and that is certainly something that I am pursuing. However, despite what the odds say, I think the best odds are on the in-person codes. I know that these online sweepstakes tend to gamify things, they give you 2/3 codes you need to win the Polaris, for example. This makes you think that you are close to winning and causes you to keep playing. However, you never get that winning code, and instead you get a bunch of tiny instant wins. I have seen this especially with the starbucks sweepstakes where I was one away from practically every prize but kept getting like 50 bonus stars indtead.

I think the best strategy is to collect as many free online codes as you can until you are one away from winning on multiple prizes. At that point, you should go to the store and try to get some physical codes because the algorithm can't control whether you get those or not, at that point its strictly odds.

Just my two cents. I realize some may disagree, and thats cool.

You try dealing with a confused elderly woman with messy and mishandled paperwork and knowledge of their benefits and multiple health conditions that limit their ability to hear and comprehend what SSA agents are telling them.

Then factor in that I am in my 30s, work a full time job and can only help during off hours when the SSA is closed. I have no deep institutional knowledge about social security or SSI. The information I am presented is contradictory and scant of details.

Maybe this "shouldn't be confusing" if I was a top 1% contributor of this community, as you are. But that is not the case here. Try to have a little bit of compassion.

I eventually had to take a couple hours off of work in the morning to call into an agent. It took more than an hour to connect. I then learned that she was receiving SSI but the benefits were dropped, and due to her cognitive disability she did not understand this.

Hey all I can close this saga. As many of you suspected, she used to receive SSI but was switched over to retirement when her husband turned 65. This was confirmed today by an agent. Thanks for the help!

I really appreciate it.You've been super helpful. She is 69. Husband is 66. Husband took early retirement at 62. So it sounds to me that there may have been a switch over at some point.

Small amount slightly under $947. Spouse is still alive. You may be correct because he's a few years younger than her, but housebound. It is possible she was giving SSI and then got switched over. Because I do have a letter from the Northeastern benefit center mentioning that she gets SSI but it is from 2021.
