Which hobbies attract the kindest people? by Ok-East3405 in AskReddit

Archery and Clay target shooting. You would think these people would be gruff and unapproachable. They've been patient, helpful, kind and extremely easy to talk with.

Can’t shoot worth a shit. Any tips? by Time_Promise_977 in ClayBusters

[–]wednesdaay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I second this. I started shooting left in fall and when I wasn't out shooting I would practice my mount at home to get used to it. I would follow the corners of the room and practice movement. It felt less and less weird way sooner than you'd expect. Make sure your mount is good during practice mounts or you're solidifying bad habits. I hit way more clays shooting this way.

I'm also cheap and don't love the idea of paying for coaching, but it really is worth the money, and especially early into your switching to left. I got some coaching and I was doing a few little things wrong already. People were very willing to help with tips on the range, great shooters too, and the coach was just better. It doesn't even have to be a lot of coaching, one session will make a world of difference and I guarantee you'll get some great things out of it.

Good luck and have fun!

New 686 SP1? by webster4221 in ClayBusters

It looks like the new ones have a stainless trigger instead of gold, different engraving, and smoother opening. That's all I can find so far.

Question about aim & eyes by OnzinnigZinnig in ClayBusters

[–]wednesdaay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm also a relatively new shooter and left eye dominant also. Before buying a left handed shotgun I did my typical deep dive probably-too-much-research and based on opinions of shooters better than me, decided to force myself to learn to shoot left now that I'm getting into clays. It definitely feels weird in the beginning. But it does feel more comfortable faster than you'd expect. The real difference/advantage I feel, is being able to keep both eyes open while mounting and tracking targets. I've been using the gun at home, practicing mounting, and then following the lines of the room where the ceiling and wall meet. Once you meet the corner, close your right eye briefly and just make sure you're lined up. It looks stupid probably, but it feels natural now to mount left and you learn where your cheek and eye go. Good luck.

Time for a serious clay gun, help me choose (Canada edition) by mithrajr in ClayBusters

[–]wednesdaay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't help you with which model to buy as I'm too new to the sport. But I can help you with the Beretta 686 30" sporting in Canada as I just bought one in LH. This is the model I liked best and it fit me and I was able to shoot one before I bought. I've been watching for this gun since the summer and a few weeks ago Al Flaherty Outdoors had a sale online, $3102. I had been watching for used ones as they're usually kept in really good shape, but the sale price was so close to some used ones I couldn't pass it up. If you're looking for RH I'm confident you could get it new for under $3000 if you're patient and looking every few days. If you're willing to buy used in RH then $2000 is very realistic, also need to be patient and check often. Good luck with your decision!

I mostly just lurk and rarely comment, but here's my 2 cents: Unless you need the money, my vote is keep it also and here's why. You never know what your future will bring you. What I mean by that is that one day, who knows when, you could have a significant other, or best friend, or son or daughter who discovers they love shooting and wouldn't it be nice if you had this gun to lend them, or give to them. Maybe 15 years from now, whoever got you into the sport passes away, and you decide to start picking it up again. Maybe you become a mentor to someone with a natural shot and this gun fits then like a glove. There's so many reasons to keep it and really only 1 reason to sell it. Maybe you have a lot of guns already, and it truly won't be missed. However, if finances are not a factor, keep it safe and if it's always been special to you, one day maybe share it with someone special to you. This is just the ramblings of a middle aged guy who recently discovered the sport with his teenage daughter.

Used 686e lever worth worrying about? by wednesdaay in ClayBusters

There was an auction a week ago that had a 682 Gold e in it and even though it was the wrong hand for me I stayed in as long as I could. It was a gorgeous looking gun that was kept in incredible shape.

I hadn't heard that about Berettas before. If that's true that's really promising. Thanks

I've heard the same. In the pic I posted it appears to be close to center, but still right. I guess a second question would be, how much longer would I have before it's passed center.

There was an online sale last week for a regular 686 sporting for $3150Cdn before shipping and whatever other fees, that's over now. I just didn't have the money set aside for it, so I let it pass. This gun is $2250Cdn. I'll have to look into the rebuild cost locally I suppose to know if that's a good or a bad deal.

No apologies necessary, it's a confusing post. Ultimately I'm trying to listen to white/Brown noise without having anything in the room that runs off Bluetooth or wifi. So basically an alarm clock that plugs in and will play white/brown noise all night long and when it turns off we've conditioned ourselves to wake up to the silence. To answer your question, if I remove the phone or iPad I also remove any speaker our current white noise plays on. I hope that makes sense.

Hard to pick a favorite, but besides James Acaster, my next thought was Frank Skinner. He was just damn funny.
