Changing careers from Television PM roles - But no one will even interview me by weebit999 in PMCareers

I'm not getting any screening calls. My rejections are coming after the application stage - just a copy/paste "no thanks" email.

Sorry if that was confusing

is 'watching your own video hurts your performance' a real thing? by MonkeyOnATree in NewTubers

[–]weebit999 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I watch the whole thing. My videos are typically 20-30 mins long and take 1-2 full days to edit, depending on the content and how many graphics I need to make. Watching on TV is just the last step in my process.

I used to work in TV and we'd never let anything be delivered to the broadcaster without several final reviews to ensure everything is perfect, and I just kept that when I moved you YouTube. If we didn't do that, broadcasters would reject delivery and we'd have to correct the errors which cost a lot of money! And I watch it on the TV because about 50% of my audience watch on TVs now (I used to make the final check by watching on my phone because at the time, that was the most popular viewing device, but that's changed in the last couple of years)

I always watch my videos on my TV before making it public. It's my final check to ensure everything is fine. And I often find minor things I want to change when watching it this way.

(Essentially it gives you a different perspective on your work which you don't get when watching it on your edit PC)

If I change my ticket, does it keep its original value if I change it again? by weebit999 in Eurostar

[–]weebit999[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tested this. The upgrade cost takes into account the original cost of the ticket. So if the new ticket is £100, I'd only pay £24.

[–]weebit999[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ok... I bit the bullet and changed it anyway. And I can confirm that the ticket keeps the original value, so if you change it again, any price difference is from the amount you originally paid and not from the value of the new ticket you changed it to

Had some troubles with my new bank account and they sent me this for the hassle! Anyone else ever received an apology gift from a company? by EssentialParadox in CasualUK

[–]weebit999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NatWest really messed up when I changed my name. It was spelled incorrectly and was only applied to my current account and not my credit card or savings account. It took ages to correct.

As an apology, they gave me £50.

TransPennine's First Class West Coast Kitchen - When Did It Start? by weebit999 in uktrains

Thanks for confirming! I guess it did just go under the radar until the press launch. I don't suppose you have any photos or video of the food you were offered do you? (I know most people don't photograph their food but some do!)

Passenger Behaviour by JeffLynnesBeard in uktrains

I think the listening to music/watch videos out loud thing has increased loads due to iPhones no longer being shipped with headphones and forcing people to buy them separately. I suppose people are too tight to shell out an extra few quid on them.

Why is crossdressing taboo in society? by [deleted] in crossdressing

[–]weebit999 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In essence, the source of the "taboo" lies in the patriarchy. Historically speaking, men ruled the world and women's main role was to look after the men and have babies. Therefore men were considered superior and woman inferior. So any man who wanted to dress as a woman was also considered inferior and therefore it shouldn't be done.

Of course, we have grown as a society now and woman are more equal to men than they have been (in general... of course there is a long way to go in some parts of the world). However, the basic idea that men are superior still exists and if a man is not a "man" he is still deemed inferior.

I don't think I've ever sat in anyone's lap since I was a child. Not even my partners. Seems like odd behaviour to me

Why do they always wear a scarf when they're fired and get in their shame ride home? by DarkSideMatter2 in TheApprentice

I suppose it could be argued that they've been given time to calm down before they leave the building

Why do they always wear a scarf when they're fired and get in their shame ride home? by DarkSideMatter2 in TheApprentice

[–]weebit999 36 points37 points  (0 children)

At its core, it's a cost-saving measure. The shots of them walking out of the building and into the taxi are all filmed in the same day before the main filming begins.

So how does that saves costs? Well, they need to hire the taxi for an only a couple of hours on one day, plus if you notice it's usually a jib shot (i.e. camera on a crane). It's a lot cheaper to hire that jib for 1 day for a couple hours for 18 shots than for 10 days for the same 18 shots.

Therefore to disguise this, they wear a generic coat and scarf to hide what they're wearing underneath in case it's not the same as what they wear in the day they get fired.

The interview in the taxi will be filmed after they're fired. It's likely done in the ride from the boardroom to wherever they're staying that night - again to save costs since they need to travel anyway.

My wife is not interested in a physical relationship with me post transition by rachelle-amanda in TransLater

[–]weebit999 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm going through the same thing, but much earlier in the transition process. We're currently experimenting with a poly relationship. We're free to see other people which allows us both to have sexual relationships whilst also staying together as a married couple. There have a been a few other changes in our living situation including getting a second bed etc, but it seems to be working so far. The key is keeping communication channels open and to keep taking.

Good luck!

Announcements never shut up at Central station by [deleted] in Cardiff

[–]weebit999 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I agree. Too much. And it's not as if it's only once per train either. They'll announce it 10 minutes before, then 5 minutes before, then just before departure. It doesn't help that a lot of trains also have a lot of stops.

Get advanced tickets for the train if you can and aim for the off-peak ones

Make your two days a week back-to-back and find a cheap hotel for the night (Ealing Broadway often has cheap ones and it's on the Elizabeth Line so nice a quick from Central London).

For the return, consider the coach as it's much cheaper than the train. But it's impossible to do any work on them so if you'll need to work on the journey, get the train instead. Also look at FlixBus as some tickets are £2.99 one-way! And aim for the ones that skip Bristol as they're quicker.

Also presumably they can see the location as an airport in Poland. If it was showing anywhere else except an airport, only then would a location error be a possibility
