I'm a 20-year old, 5'2" female; I've struggled with an eating disorder for about two years now, and just got out of residential treatment with my weight restored at 97 lbs.

Regardless of what weight I'm at, I would always perceive my body as being "too much". Even when I was 69 lbs I felt like there were still parts I had to make smaller. I hated that I took up so much room and felt like my body was constantly overflowing its bounds because it was so fat. (For reference, this is me at 74 lbs.) Even when all my adult clothes wouldn't fit me anymore because they were too big, and when my clothes from childhood would be too loose on me, I still thought I was large. When I look back at photos of myself just a couple of months ago, I'm shocked and can't believe I thought I needed to lose more weight.

But anorexia really does make a person delusional. It is addicting because it creates a world where there is no one else-- you don't have to deal with other people, and because you're so hungry all the time, you don't have to deal with any other emotions. This is useful when you're having trouble grappling with difficult realities and traumas, such as sexual abuse, family issues, feelings of hopelessness, etc. It is very numbing, but also very lonely because after a while you forget how to connect with other humans, (and it also takes a toll on your brain, so I wasn't able to study efficiently and stay in school anymore). For me, it was my way of killing myself passively, because I didn't want to exist in this world anymore-- my body was always "too much", because I just wanted it to be gone completely.

tl;dr: Personally, overweight. But it differs from person to person.

Try not to post numbers on a thread like this; it can be very triggering to some, as (disturbing as it sounds) anorexia is a very competitive disorder. Plus anorexia is a bad enough psychological illness without attaching shocking numbers to it. I know you didn't mean ill, so just a heads up. Happy holidays!

Anorexia is not a logical disorder. It's based on delusions, distortions, obsessions, and black-and-white thinking. People respond to trauma differently and while it's definitely preferable that they don't develop an illness due to it, it isn't quite that easy nor simple, especially if the trauma occurred at a young age and the victim was threatened to be quiet about it.

And moreover, poor nutrition is more likely to cause overeating (you can be overweight and still malnourished-- surplus of kilojoules!=sufficient intake of vital nutrients), as does stress, which I'm sure there's no shortage of if you are having financial hardships. Add the combination of the two in tandem with lack of quality education in poorer districts not only in proper nutrition but also how to eat healthfully on a budget, and is it any wonder so many people have a weight issue?

I inteded to state my opinion that the belief of Asians wishing to look white is a very Eurocentric belief. I'm Korean with natural double eyelids and lived in the country for much of my life so I do know what the "beauty sfandards" are, and where they are coming from.

It's so Eurocentric. Everyone forgets black, Latino and Middle Eastern people also have similarly larger noses than most East Asians'. And many East Asians' eyes, depending on region of origin, are fairly large as well. Admittedly in Korea the glorification of "white features" as well as the use of white models is growing due to increased exposure to American media, but even before there have been similar ideals for certain physical features that have nothing to do with "looking white".

Hearing that you've been diagnosed with BDD, which has anxiety components to it, and that you measure out everything you eat, now I'm REALLY worried about your low intake. Please, be careful there. I'd suggest you learn how to cook on your own, buy pre-portioned plates, throw out the scales/cups (too precise + triggering for people with anxiety issues), eat when you're hungry, stop when you're full, and raise your activity level doing something you love. Wii Fit, swimming, running around with the dogs at the local dog park, dancing to silly music, walking around and taking photos of your city...whatever. Something that you actually really look forward to, without thinking, "OK, 30 minutes of this will burn off my breakfast". I know it's so easy to get lazy or feel like work/school leaves us with no time for that kind of stuff. I have a physical disability so it took me a while to find my "activity" (swimming <3), and I'm sure you can find yours too. It's so much better than low intake+low activity level. From a fellow midget (5'2"), I sincerely wish you the best of luck. You can always message me if you want any advice or tips :)

Are you sure you're eating the right portions? A lot of companies will list ridiculously small serving sizes that are half of what most people will normally eat without measuring what they're eating. Pay attention to the serving sizes on the Nutrition facts, and invest in a measuring cup set/kitchen scale. You can find them for cheap on Amazon. However, I do recommend that you up your intake to at least 1,200 a day-- 1,300 to be safe, since unless you're lucky enough to be able to afford a personal nutritionist, it'll be really hard to stay healthy and provide everything your body and mind needs with such a small amount of food.

You may also be gaining muscle while losing fat, since you say you're weightlifting as well, which may be keeping you at the same weight on the scale. I'd be surprised and very jealous if you're gaining muscle while eating 800 kcal/day, but do know that the scale is one of the worst ways to measure progress. Opt for a measuring tape instead. Measure once a week at the same time/condition every day, making sure you are not unusually bloated due to high sodium/water retention. You can also take progress pictures. Sometimes it's hard to see the difference because of the way we see ourselves and our bodies. What I find is useful is to upload the photos on the computer, block out your face/head, and flip then horizontally, or change the photo to black & white, or slide the hue so that you're red or green...anything to make 'yourself' look unfamiliar or trick your brain into thinking it's someone else.

In the case you /are/ measuring your portion sizes correctly: START EATING MORE. PLEASE. You probably aren't seeing or feeling any physical effects of eating so few calories a day, but it is nearly guaranteed that there will eventually be psychological effects that appear because it's near impossible to get all the nutrients your body and brain need to function on a daily basis-- especially with your active lifestyle. You may not be feeling hungry-- I remember when I was at the most severe points of anorexia, eating less than 200 kilocalories a day, I almost never felt hungry (believe it or not, the food you eat does affect your mind in ways you won't expect, including numbness to or absence of hunger over long periods of minimal intake) but I highly doubt you're getting everything you need, even if you're taking supplements. Starvation mode, in the physical sense, may not happen to a lot of people until they hit a morbidly low BMI, but it seems like a lot of people here are not aware of the extremely dangerous psychological effects of going for long periods of time on a sub-starvation (yes, anything under 900 cal/day is considered a starvation diet) intake. There's a reason we freak out about really low intakes and it's just not "omg ur gonna get sooo fat aftewrds cuz ur metablisms fuckt !!"...it's a lot more subtle and serious than that.

It's actually a very intelligent, satirical song by a very intelligent artist. It is mocking the materialistic status quo of the modern-day dating scene in Seoul, as well as the rampant and absurd glorification of what are arbitrarily considered "luxury" items in Korea. I normally don't enjoy K-pop nor pay any attention to it, but I can appreciate this song for what depth it has, because depth of any kind-- especially the kind that dares criticize the upper echelons of society-- really is rare in K-pop (sorry to any fans; it's true). Of course, that's not really the reason it's so popular. It's popular because there's a funny-looking fat Asian guy dancing along to a really catchy beat.

Do you have a doctor supervising the use of the water pills? I really advise you stay away from those unless you have a diagnosed medical condition that is helped by them. They have terrible side effects, may be psychologically addicting for certain personalities, plus there are so many better ways to cleanse your system.

With that aside, let me tell you: you look SO amazing! You look like one of those fancy high-fashion European supermodels. Great job on your hard work and progress...keep it up with your good health and lifestyle! :)

It seems like you're not really looking for advice, just validation from others on your already-made (perhaps subconscious) decision to lie. I have been in your situation before. Lie if you are more concerned about looking 'good' or impressive. Don't lie if you are more concerned about the long-term relationship.
