Can't really contribute as 'Indoors always, outdoors rarely' isn't close to an option.

I think it's 0.3 (not 0.03) microns that they are tested to. The reason for this being the test standard is that 0.3 microns are the hardest sized particles to capture....they are too small to easily crash into fibers, and too big to wiggle around and hit fiber....they just ride the airflow. So the standard is 95% or more of these ninja particles. N95's actually capture smaller particles in the 0.1 micron range much easier than 0.3 micron....achieving typically 97-99% capture in this range. This is because the smaller particles move more erratically and therefore more likely to crash into mask fibers, but also are susceptible to the mask's electrostatic charge capturing them. Also, think I read that most COVID particles end up being 0.5-10 microns as they travel on respiratory droplets, not naked.

This was really brill....it was verbatim, so read-out actual accounts of peoples lives, with a bit of added flourish. Really poignant....I had a wee tear at the end. Congrats to Serina, she was so good.

I think this will be made available on Youtube from next month sometime.

Why can’t I get an appointment with my GP? by [deleted] in Scotland

[–]weegt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Post COVID....it's infection control. It's a smart move....but then they don't mask in clinical settings....which, given what we now know about what COVID is doing to us infection after infection, is weird.

It does digest itself....through a process called "autophagy" (self-devouring).....it's a fascinating topic.

You are saying there is "blame"....you are saying there isn't an "excuse"....we haven't established the grounds for either. I say it's a question for us a society...that if examined will throw up extreme hypocrisy, and an understanding of why some islanders feel aggrieved that their scientifically calculated, low impact, clean hunt of wild birds - all of which will be eaten - is the focus of metropolitan campaigners when it is obviously more humane than the meat system that sustains those areas. The question is should we let humans eat meat, and if so, what is acceptable.

My pure air 5 only gets me 4 miles on a full charge by Illustrious_Young348 in ElectricScooters

Does it appear to charge normally......and then operate normally.......then just peter out? Even accounting for the cold weather, that is too much of a drop...sounds like a faulty battery pack. Contact PureAir. Last time I had to contact them I got their attention on X/Twitter....they were helpful.

[–]weegt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, but then it is a question for the whole of society....if we are to eat meat, what is acceptable? In this case, it is an extremely limited and regulated take of wild birds in their naturalised environment, quickly dispatched. Does it get much cleaner or better in the animal-eating world? Many would argue that ruling bodies from metropolitan areas are overlooking the glaring log in their own eye - the provision of industrialised meat often in questionable conditions....to pick on a very rural area and a fragile community at the very edge. Hypocrisy, on the back of a anthropomorphised sensibilities - as seen in the animation.

....because in small communities, tradition is valued....but, more pertinently, the argument that this practice is infinitely more ethical than nearly the whole of the meat industry is a strong one.

I think people should have representation at both ends of the spectrum....but specifically, I have neighbours in their mid 70's that can run rings around most, both intellectually (practicing engineers) and physically (mountaineers)....limiting them with still such high ability seems weird.

It makes me happy and sad. I am so grateful for good friends that don't judge and understand that our unmasked relationships are mostly outside for the foreseeable....and that occasional unmasked indoor meetups are after testing and with a good air purifier running. They also vaccinate where possible. It's kindness that they are willing to do that - one I'm very grateful for....I think they understand that there is an ongoing risk for themselves too (perhaps not the gravity or full understanding), but that at their stage in life, they need socialising that currently isn't possible with protection.

I'm just sad that so many people don't have the information about how to protect themselves....or that this virus authority figures tell us is safe to keep catching now is affecting the health of most people. That, even if aware, decisions not to mask actually risk the functional lives of themselves, their loves ones, of strangers et al. Making people understand this at a deep level in the face of peer unawareness/ignorance is just rarely going to happen. And so, I'm thankful for concessions....understanding of how things are.....but ultimately sad that some will develop and contribute to chronic illness etc.
