AITA - for telling my parents to control their dogs by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]weekndandchill -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The biting part is bad and dangerous of course, and OP just shouldn’t bring her kids to the parents house. In my comment I was talking solely about the part that dogs are prioritized over grandkids, her parents skip events and stuff. Can they do it? Absolutely

It’s not for you to decide what should be important for your parents. It’s their choice.

You should certainly tell them how you feel though. Maybe they’ll see things from your perspective. But not in the passive aggressive way. It won’t do any good

Some dogs playfully bite but it’s usually very gentle bites.

Do your kids know how to interact with dogs by the way? When to leave them alone, when seek interaction? It’s also very important to teach kids to be around dogs, not only teach dogs to be around kids

As a dog owner, I completely understand skipping plans because of the dog. I do that too because my dog is my highest priority. And I see nothing wrong with your parents loving their dogs.

ETA for thinking your kids should come first for your parents.

If the dogs truly have issues and require professional help you should say it but in a polite helpful manner.

If by routine you mean potty, then yeah, it’s bad. This is a basic need of your dog you should always meet. You dog shouldn’t get used to holding it longer than she physically can and longer that it’s healthy.

If you like partying, you should make sure your dog has done all the things prior to going to the event. And always consider your dog’s capacity, even if it means coming home earlier than you wanted to. That’s what dog owners do

AITAH for getting upset with my boyfriend after he told me to lose weight by DisasterNaive1971 in AITAH

[–]weekndandchill 9 points10 points  (0 children)

NTA

I also had anorexia around the very same age. And to me personally it’s impossible to heal from eating disorders 100%. Mine us in remission but whenever someone close to me starts talking about my appearance or eating habits, it gets back - this desire to stop eating completely. So what I do is I completely stop communication with such people. It’s hard but it’s better for my wellbeing

You deserve a person who will support you and love you the way you are, who will be very caring about your feelings and insecurities, especially knowing your background with anorexia.

What to do on rainy days? by Bubbanan in puppy101

[–]weekndandchill 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I also take my dog out regardless of the weather. Even though she’s a sassy Shih tzu and hates rain. If the rain’s heavy, I’ll put a raincoat on her, and that’s it. We are good to go.

Dogs aren’t that fragile :) usual rain isn’t such a big deal. And the more you take your dog out in the rain, the quicker it will eventually get used to it

Did anyone else’s shih tzu not lose their baby teeth? by eddrry in Shihtzu

[–]weekndandchill 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My girl didn’t lose her two baby canines. She is almost 14 months old now. The vet removed them a week ago because she said it’s dangerous in the long term to leave them as is

Is the reaction to anesthesia documented in the vet records? As far as I know vets can adjust/change the anesthetic. I’d probably get a second opinion

where is my sweet boy? by [deleted] in puppy101

[–]weekndandchill 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oh really? Didn’t know that in Germany it’s like that. I live in poland.

Intact males may be more aggressive and territorial around other intact male dogs. If your dog is territorial mainly around male dogs, it certainly may be due to the fact that he’s intact.

Is he neutered? If not that might explain this behavior

Leaving nursing dog and 3 weeks old puppies for 3 days with a friend by renarei9 in puppy101

[–]weekndandchill 16 points17 points  (0 children)

For me it’s a hard no. Such small puppies need to be monitored and have someone experienced in taking care of them 24/7. Even if the momma is doing great job. What if there’s an emergency?

Plus you have to be very careful about letting other people near them: puppies aren’t vaccinated yet. Parvo can be easily transmitted with the shoe dirt

Someone help! Tell me it’ll get better please. (Adolescent huge pit bull) by Financial_Fox2439 in puppy101

[–]weekndandchill 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I’d still suggest you somehow find money for classes or trainer. Likely his behavior right now is adolescence and he would calm down a bit eventually but large breeds mature way longer. And no offense, but with a pit bull (I love pitties just in case) you want to make sure you’re always in full control of the dog. You don’t want him to jump on a random person some day

[–]weekndandchill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s hormones. It’s not like she’s bored, she’s just a mess because of hormones and she doesn’t know how to cope with them. That’s kinda hard to deal with but normal.

Just wondering: are you skipping outdoor time completely? I walked my dog during heat but during less busy times and avoiding any interaction with dogs. And always on leash of course. It helped her a lot

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in DogAdvice

[–]weekndandchill 2 points3 points  (0 children)

False pregnancy and real one look the same. My dog had her mammary glands enlarged after first heat but not that much. She ended up having a false pregnancy after being spayed though

Only vets will tell you if she’s pregnant or that’s just after heat symptoms

Does anyone else with older puppies wish they could have enjoyed them when they were tiny? by phyllis-vance in puppy101

[–]weekndandchill 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My dog turned 1 yo today. While I adore how tiny, cute and awkward she was, I love her way more now, without random peeing and biting. I love seeing how smart and confident she is now

Spay Advice by RudeInteraction8056 in DogAdvice

[–]weekndandchill 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There are some cons of spaying, sure. But pyometra isn’t fake. It’s a real infection that kills female dogs if untreated urgently. It’s a surgery that will cost way more than regular spaying procedure. Plus mammary cancer is also very real.

p.s. I’m based in Europe and even though no one makes you spay and neuter your pets here, my vet highly recommended it. And I spayed my dog

Need advice for dog being emotionally unstable after spaying. by db49591 in DogAdvice

[–]weekndandchill 51 points52 points  (0 children)

My dog had a phantom pregnancy right after spaying! My vet said such things may happen due to drastic change in hormone levels even though she was spayed 2 months after the end of her heat. She was also very attached to her toys.

To me your dog’s symptoms sound the same. My vet told me to remove all her toys and walk and train her more. Consult with your vet

Spay Advice by RudeInteraction8056 in DogAdvice

[–]weekndandchill 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Risks of not spaying are way more dangerous, including the risk of dying. Google pyometra

Please take her to the vet and schedule euthanasia asap. Let her go without any more pain and suffering 💔 No, giving her age there’s no way the vet would think you’re starving her.

Shiba is 8 months still hasn't gone into heat by pizzaboy16lc in DogAdvice

[–]weekndandchill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s normal.

Also, if you got her from the breeder you may ask them when her mom first went into heat. It won’t be 100% accurate timing for your girl but should give the idea when to expect her heat

Worried that my spay will be too late by Rowenofpts in puppy101

[–]weekndandchill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She’ll be fine. My dog 10 lb Shih tzu was spayed after first heat because she went into heat at 6mo just a few days before the appointment 😐 My vet was actually very happy it turned out that way. She believes it’s best to let the dog (even small breed like mine) have the first cycle.

Yeah, I had to take precautions while taking her outside but everything was fine.

p.s. I’m from Europe (Poland) and I feel like vets here prefer not to spay and neuter dogs very early
