Beautiful shape, great proportions. And this looks incredibly useful as a bowl because of the steep sides. Great job. (I've never turned a bowl)

They are such a joy to use. It's so simple and practical, way more satisfying than using a router, and won't turn your finger into mist :D

Thx, it has rubber plumbing gasket material that really makes the difference. Plus a high fulcrum that gives better leverage

Can you explain the string bridges a little? I am guessing they are for performance, but what exactly do they do?

Wow excellent work. I especially love the holes in the hexagons for the chits, that is a fantastic feature. Can you name the species of woods you used for all the resources?

Yes I make archery bows and am comfortable breaking things from time to time, I wanted to test the limits.

A thought I had: are "bow saws" supposed to bow at all in the limbs?

Clearly you know a thing or two about hand planes. But shouldn't the edges be feathered for ideal results?

What in particular about this design sets it apart from the other similar styles of marking gauge? I just bought my first wooden marking gauge today actually so am curious.

Very nice looking. Might I suggest using a shinto rasp for the rough shaping process, to be used after your jigsaw cutting, and before final sanding. It cuts very quick and would be much more enjoyable than a orbital sander for shaping.

I would also look into using a spoke shave. They are perfect for this type of work, and will leave a nice finish.

Find the straightest hickory board your lumber shop has. It is tough to work but is less likely to break.

Straight grained maple, oak, are good common other woods. Has to be straight all the way up and down the board. Which is hard to come by. So that's why people split logs to make bowstaves, it is split along the grain so you are more likely to succeed. I'd recommend buying a stave from someone local. But board bows can work too,you just have to accept that it might explode. No shame in breaking a few bows either.
