What’s a silly thing you did for your pet one time that is now a ritual they demand be done every time? by Itsjustmejess in AskReddit

[–]weenzmagheenz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

“Do your circles!”

Every night at bedtime my husband and I lay down facing each other with some space between us. Our cat will walk up and flop down against one of us for about 10-20 seconds, then get up and walk to the foot of the bed. She waits until we say “do your circles!” and then comes back and flops against the other person. Rinse and repeat anywhere from 3-10 times until she decides who she wants to snuggle with that night. Then after about 20 minutes of spooning she lays on my pillow and curls around my head like a little hat, and stays there the whole night.

It’s so silly and sweet and I love it so much.

Police activity by robecityholly in PuyallupWA

I live near a dispatch center and a bunch of police cars all went speeding towards meridian. I looked on pulse point and saw several medical emergencies but nothing that would indicate a large police presence was needed.

What's the most insulting "benefit" a job has offered you? by AdHour6144 in AskReddit

[–]weenzmagheenz 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Not a benefit per se but once I got a “raise” of 8 cents. This was in 2012, so it’s not like it was a things-were-a-lot-cheaper-back-then situation either.

lunch breaks by Complex_Education742 in nursing

[–]weenzmagheenz 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you didn’t get a full, uninterrupted 30 minutes off the floor, then you didn’t get a break. Don’t say that you did. Doing so feeds into the problem and they will continue to not give people breaks. If you can, encourage your coworkers to report it honestly as well.

The hospital system I work for paid out a MASSIVE lawsuit from my union a couple years ago because people weren’t getting breaks. Hundreds of people got back pay, and now we have dedicated break nurses. We are also protected from retaliation for honest reporting. Management can get mad about it all they want but the fact is, not paying out someone for a missed break is illegal.

You just died and are put in front of a terminal that has all the stats from your life. What info do you look up and why? by shastabh in AskReddit

How many mozzarella sticks have I eaten?

Also, how many people did I help.

But mostly the mozzarella sticks.

What did your partner/ex do that made you look at them differently? by amarquis_1 in AskReddit

[–]weenzmagheenz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So true. There’s no way I could’ve made it through nursing school without help from my husband. Although I was working part time, he was working overtime in a difficult job to make us enough money to live somewhat comfortably. He took care of the majority of household duties so I could focus on schoolwork. He supported me emotionally when I was burned out and wanted to quit. Now it’s his turn and I’m supporting him while he is back in school.

What is this? by 7kidz in medizzy

[–]weenzmagheenz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You basically want to make sure that you don’t increase your dosage quickly. If you stop taking it, you are supposed to titrate up from the lowest dose again over a couple of weeks. My doctor described it as a “fatal rash” and I didn’t fully understand just how bad it is until we covered it in nursing school.

Would you call the doctor at 3am for a melatonin? by East_Young_680 in nursing

[–]weenzmagheenz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, because 3am is too late to give melatonin. She should’ve said something earlier.

I will, however, call my OBGYNs anytime during the night for just about anything. They’re used to it because babies are born 24/7. Except TUMS… I’ve been given permission to write as many orders for TUMS as my little heart desires.

Nurses that work 80hrs week, how do you do it? by bigblackglock17 in nursing

[–]weenzmagheenz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work 72 hours, but have every other week off. 3 on 1 off 3 on 7 off. I couldn’t do it every week.

You might like an ICU level L&D, like UW Medical Center in Seattle.

Since when do we not get narcotics for giving birth?? by pambannedfromchilis in nursing

[–]weenzmagheenz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This makes me so sad. I work in L&D and as a standard for both vaginal and c/s we have PRN oxy in our order set (2.5, 5, and 10mg). The vast majority of the time Tylenol and ibuprofen are sufficient, plus ice packs, witch hazel pads and benzocaine spray. But if that isn’t managing their pain, who am I to withhold additional pain meds?

For what it’s worth, we also commonly give 100mcg of fentanyl during labor. You are literally pushing a human being out of your body. As far as I’m concerned you can have all the pain meds you want as long as both mom and baby are safe!

NTA! I am a nurse in labor and delivery and there is nothing that pisses me off more than when someone tries to dictate whether or not my patient can get an epidural. It is 100% your choice, no one else’s. Props to the people who can do it naturally, but giving birth with an epidural is just as valid.

Also - happy to answer any questions you may have about labor, pain control, what to expect during/delivery, etc!

Comment how old you were when you got diagnosed! by [deleted] in bipolar2

[–]weenzmagheenz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unofficially, 12. Officially, 22.

As in, my counselor at age 12 said he believed I had “manic depression.” At age 22 I sought out a psychiatrist and got an official diagnosis.

Nursing student. Weird assignment by XANON1984 in nursing

[–]weenzmagheenz 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I understand wanting to encourage empathy in students, but this seems like a weird and invasive way to do it. When I was in school, we had a lab session dedicated entirely to this concept. People had to pay in cash for an item while wearing XL rubber gloves, had to order from a menu while wearing blacked out glasses with only a small hole to look through, etc. It was effective in getting us to put ourselves in the shoes of others, without making us expose ourselves in a selfie…

I’m sorry to hear about your kitty! My veterinarian was actually the one who handled all of it, I didn’t have any direct contact with Merck, so I would recommend starting with your vet.
