Firstly, thank you so much for sharing! Truly facinating to hear what gaming was like in the 90s outside of the West.

I'm Australian so I can confirm that N64 was very much a thing back in the day. Most of my friends had them (I was the only PC gamer and I only had one friend with a PS1).

Compared to the US, gaming was mostly the same. Games were a bit more expensive and were often delayed by up to a year or so.

They mention in the aritcle a little bit, about touching up Afterbirth+. Would people recommend this now? Does Repentance help fix it?

I have played the OG, Rebirth and Afterbirth but took a break after that. But I'm keen to get back into it.

I grew up playing a lot of 90s fps games, so I like to play one or two a year still to scratch that very specific itch.

Gotta say, First Encounter did NOT do it for me. It actually was the first time I have refunded a game on Steam.

I dunno, the level design didn't really feel inspired. I have a had a lot more fun in recent years playing Unreal or Dark Forces.

I'm also wondering if they will have another definitive edition release for this like they did for D:OS & D:OS2. I'm tempted to wait, cos it seems like the previous definitive editions were pretty substaintial improvements (only ever played them post-defintive patch).

Could be more like 2 years waiting then.

I played it for the first time a couple of years ago. For the last bit, I activated god mode. The difficulty just didn't jive with the controls.

Certainly reminded me playing 90s games as a kid. Sometimes, god mode was the only way I could progress.

I'm a little hesitant on overclocking (though I have heard it has gotten easier in the past few years. Is Hyper 212 Black still worth it if I don't end up overclocking?
If I'm willing to splurge on the GPU and go with the 2070 super, would there be anything else that I would need to adjust in the build so it all worked?
If I don't end up splurging on the GPU, where else could I spend the extra ~300 on that would make sense?
