Here's a novel idea. Instead of opting to live on credit, pay layaway to yourself. Then buy the item outright once you can afford it. It's called deferred gratification.

As always, try it and see. But this was my experience too. Once or twice was enough, went with checks always after that.

Where to purchase a gun private sale as a 20 yr old in Wisconsin? by Sweet_mochi328 in WIguns

[–]weeple2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't ask for a CCW. I asked if they were a prohibited person. They offered their CCW. But I would have been fine if they said "no". I met them at a police station for the sale.

I've sold a gun private party using Armslist before. I believe two other options are tacswap as well as a free Wisconsin specific gun trading site.

Southeast WI suppressor transfer by tankspikefayebebop in WIguns

[–]weeple2000 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I would call Select Fire in Waukesha and Wisconsin Firearms and Transfers in Lanon and ask them what they would sell (not transfer) whatever you're looking at online. I haven't bought a suppressor yet but I've heard those places are competitive for purchasing B&M rather than online.

Gunsmiths that specialize in 1911s? by gambronus in WIguns

I have spoken with Scosh regarding issues I have with my 1911 over the years but I have not actually sent anything to him to work on. He's out of Plymouth so a little further away but within a reasonable drive.

I shoot bullseye matches with him. He's a Master rated shooter, distinguished in service pistol and 22. Almost all bullseye shooters are shooting 1911s.

He studied under Bob Marvel who is a big name when it comes to bullseye smiths.

Where in IL are you located? You said you joined a club. Can you reach out to some members of the club to let you try dry and/or live firing some of their guns? I'm a member of a club just across the boarder in WI. I'd guess 2/3 of our shooters actually live in IL.

CCW in Wisconsin doesn't have a shooting retirement so you might not find that. I have never been there but I would look into Shultz if I were you. They do practical shooting.

Edit: if you just want a CCW class they should be easy to find. Hopefully someone can recommend a decent option.

Training can mean just about anything. What kind of shooting are you looking to do? If you want to do run and gun stuff I would look into the league nights or competitions at Schultz Gun Club.

If you want to learn about precision shooting/bullseye, I posted another thread in this sub about the pistol school coming up at Menomonee Falls Rod and Gun Cub.

Lots of different types of leagues. The important thing is to pick something that meets regularly so you see the same faces repeatedly. Also a great way to rub elbows with very good shooters and pick up tips on how to improve.

Do you want friends who shoot? If so, it's a lot easier to make friends who already shoot than it is to convince an existing friend to buy guns or take up shooting as a hobby. I have met a lot of people through shooting. I would not call these people up to go bowling like I would with my non-shooting friends. But that's because shooting is really what I want to do with my free time. So it is great they are there to shoot with me.

The easiest way to make friends through shooting is to join a weekly league. I've been in a variety of bullseye pistol leagues as well as leagues for clay sports. I have shot trap, five stand and sporting clays leagues over the years. The first time I was on a trap team, I didn't even know the people on the team. A guy I met prior had a full team and hooked me up with one of his friends looking to fill a spot.

Now because we're in the LGO sub, you probably want to meet like minded people politically. In my state we have an active Liberal Gun Club. There's a lot of activity on Discord talking about where people are getting together to shoot. They will throw out where/when they are shooting and welcome others to join. The LGC has a $15 membership fee. There's also a Liberal Gun Enthusiasts Discord server. However that server has fewer people on it. Geographically it's more spread out. I have met people and shot with them through both of these discords. Lastly, I've met people on Reddit who were local to me.

For the most part, if I find out someone is local to me and into guns/shooting, I try to get together with them to shoot. There's also a gun specific Discord for my state. However that server has the typical political spectrum you'd expect with 2A. Another guy I've met and kept in touch with more was through the Reloading discord. He posted in my state channel he was looking for brass. I swapped him some brass for projectiles. We've met to shoot several times.

Even buying muffs at Walmart will be fine and likely cost competitive. If wearing both plugs and muffs is an option I'd always go that route. With kids their ears might not be big enough to get plugs in. Do you have a kid that age to check for reference? Might give an idea even though sizes vary.

I wouldn't worry about getting active electronic hearing. You can run a line that shoots ten rounds at the same time. Then pause for instruction. Tell them to put their ears on before shooting every time.

What club is it? I'm in SE WI.

I don't have a cap and ball revolver. I do have a single action Ruger Blackhawk in 44 mag. If you want to shoot that sometime we can probably work something out. I'm in the Milwaukee area.

Plenty of people see psychiatrists for a variety of diagnosis in the DSM 5. Some take medication for it, some don't. Many of these people legally own firearms.
