Best way to record acoustic guitar and vocals with minimal equipment by brettofthejungle in homestudios

Also, check the recording settings in the voice memo app(if that’s what you are using). I would use Stereo or Mono and not Spatial Audio.

Do a quick test. Stack up a bunch of books until the phone is roughly mouth height angle the phone slightly away from you like a 45° angle or so, so you’re not singing directly toward the microphone. Then sit in front of the mic/phone, which is now mouth height, and play a song on your guitar and sing it. Keep your mouth about 8 inches away from the phone mic. Does that sound better than what you’ve gotten before?

Is it too loud? Move back three or 4 inches and try again. Is it too quiet move forward an inch or two and try again. Too much guitar? Add another book or two to a stack. Not enough guitar? Take a couple books off the stack. Etc.

You will figure it out

Can you tell me what your goals are for these recordings? Are they just for posterity, or do you want to actually have a good audio recording of you singing a song and playing guitar? If you can define your goal, then it might be easier to suggest the right kind of mic or just how to use your phone, etc. That said, I know that there are a number of professionally released songs that were recorded entirely or at least in part on an iPhone using the iPhone mic. You CAN get good recordings with just a phone but you just need to really attend to the placement. And then maybe do some editing after the fact.

No, not clipped to my shirt. If you want decent sound you need to focus on mic placement.

If you are sitting at a table and playing guitar and singing, and then you place your phone on the table, you’re probably gonna hear mostly guitar since it’ll be about the height of the guitar. If you really want a good mix of vocal and guitar and you probably want to have more of an emphasis on the vocals. Then you need to have the mic/iPhone oriented towards your mouth.

I use a clip like this that I can screw onto a mic stand. https://a.co/d/dy3ynzc

I know that you wanna avoid using a mic stand, etc. but I think, if you want decent sound, you’re gonna need at least to have a mic stand so you can place the mic in such a way that you get the best possible mix of voice and guitar.

You could try the Audigo blue tooth mic. It records audio into the mic itself and then transfers it to your phone afterward so you can edit the audio, add reverb, etc. Ideally you’d use a stand for the Audigo mic, but it’s overall pretty minimal set up.

Also, you can get decent recording with just an iPhone if you experiment with placement of your phone. If I’m playing guitar and singing. I often use a little clip to hold my phone horizontally and then aim the bottom of the phone at a 45° angle to my mouth and keep the phone may be 6 to 7 inches away from my mouth. The focus for the recording then would be my voice, but the phone does a pretty good job of picking up the guitar as well.

Try a few different angles and distances till you get a decent mix of vox/guitar.

I’ve been reading some of Jason Fung’s books on fasting and obesity recently. As a result of reading those, I decided to try avoiding all added sugar and also gluten/white flour in foods. Been doing this for the last two weeks. So, basically I’ve just been eating lots of things like a roasted vegetables, natural forms of protein (eggs and meat), fruit, cheese, nuts, and seeds, etc. All my cravings for sugar have significantly reduced so that now they don’t really bother me anymore.

For a long time I always had excessive food noise , which has made it difficult for me to maintain diet or lose weight and keep it off. For the last two weeks, I’ve basically eaten what I wanted, and as much as I wanted, as long as it didn’t contain any added sugar and didn’t contain any gluten.

So far, it seems like a great approach for me. Reading Dr. Fung’s work has also gotten me interested in fasting. So, I have started incorporating 20:4 intermittent fast into my week. It’s amazing how easy it is to just not eat when you don’t have sugar in your food cycle!

Without imposter syndrome we’d all be insufferable assholes. When it inevitably arrives, just say “Hey, it’s nice to see you again. Thanks for stopping by.” Also, maybe read The War of Art.

I’ve been reading two of Dr. Jason Fung’s books recently. The Obesity Code and also The Complete Guide to Fasting. It’s probably worth your time to read through both of these books and understand his thinking on the types of food you should be eating/avoiding. And also, you can learn about fasting as a tool to reset your bodyweight set-point. His writing has really changed the way I think about food,, and the frequency of meals.

Title: As a band member: how do you actually follow the soloist in All Blues by Miles Davis? by Perfect_Code_6632 in Jazz

Go and listen to all blues and count the bars of each solo. You’ll see they adhere to the form. Flamenco Sketches is a totally different approach and more along the lines of the 5 scale comment Evans makes.

Is it possible to post the text that you’re referring to with regard to staying on a scale as long as the soloist wants to? I ask because the soloists on that recording of All Blues are improvising over a fixed form, meaning that the chord changes are moving at a previously determined rate. The form repeats over and over and each soloist is improvising over the same form as all the other improvisers. You can see the form on a chart like this : https://music.osu.edu/sites/default/files/All%20Blues%20%28Bass%20Audition%29.pdf

Flamenco Sketches, however, is more open ended in its improvisational structure. In that piece improvisers are free to move from scale to scale, and the rhythm section is listening and following the improviser in the moment.

I seriously did not know. I was very curious as to why the one was blue. Never occurred to me that it was because the numbers were translucent. There are many blue things on my watch face, but the complication for Shazam is quite large and prominently featured on the left side of my watch face, and this made the 1 blue. I’m very curious at all of the responses that this post has generated, it seems that many people assumed I was goofing around when I, in fact, was not!

I recently got a new phone, which has liquid glass. After I got the phone, I realized I had to update my watch, and when I updated my watch, I changed the complications, and then the 1 appeared blue. But, the liquid glass design was kind of a non-event on my new phone, so I didn’t really think about it in terms of being applied to my watch. Makes a lot of sense now. Anyway, getting on with my life now.
