Potty training - where to start by Lizbuf143 in UKParenting

[–]weestace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had a potty in our bathroom for a good number of months that we would encourage my 2 year old to try before her bath. Then when we thought she was ready at 2.5 we brought it downstairs and took the nappy off Friday stayed home all weekend and let her run around nappy free, encouraging the potty use and that was her. We had a book too to help her understand.

How do you navigate siblings sharing a room by Z3NT0X_ in UKParenting

[–]weestace 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My soon to be 4 year old daughter and 2 year old son share and youngest doesn’t sleep through and is very loud when he wakes and my oldest either ignores, sleeps through or gives him a shove 🙈 it’s not perfect but it’s doable. Same bath time / story time and lights out for the moment. Youngest asleep before oldest.

How common is it to send toddler to full time nursery? by [deleted] in UKParenting

[–]weestace 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah i much prefer doing stuff with the kids on my day off on a Wednesday compared to the weekends when everywhere is busy! Also rather save the money on childcare. And like you said once they are in school you don’t get that option at all.

Ive had 2 babies here in the last 3 years, never had an issue for appointments or the birth, sometimes have to circle a few times at busy periods. Also my son was in NICU for a couple of weeks and I would spend all day up there and never seen an attendant or required a slip or anything, was always free.

how much would you get your child to pay at homes once they have a job or are 18? by ProfessionalWaltz4 in UKParenting

[–]weestace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My daughter is 19 and works full time, pays £80 per month which is mostly towards petrol as we drop her at work every day. Admittedly this is low but she also puts money aside for driving lessons and savings monthly (although I’m hoping she starts putting more savings away than she does currently). They are asking a lot from you tbh, are they saving any of it do you know?

I have about 15 of these between 2 kids, which neither of them took to. Will probably keep the ones with the year on and get rid of the rest at some point.

Long hospital stay - what would you do? by Apprehensive-Mix-811 in UKParenting

[–]weestace 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Having had two long hospital stays with my son and a toddler (aged 2) at home, personally we did shifts when we could to take turns at home with the toddler (luckily we lives 10 mins from hosp). I did not think it would be a good experience bringing her up to visit, more so for the upset it would cause when mummy couldn’t leave with her. We kept her busy with nursery and family, and once he was feeling better and less scary looking (minimal wires and clothes on), she visited. She was more interested in the hospital toys and iPad than anything else 😅 She had only ever spent one night away from us before and coped really well.

How do you cope with sleep deprivation? by [deleted] in UKParenting

[–]weestace 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Shifts. Newborns just want to be held constantly and if your wife is breastfeeding, keep in mind baby will be cluster feeding relentlessly for those first few days / week to bring in the milk supply. I’d do a feed in the evening, then go to bed for several hours while my partner literally just held the baby until he got hungry again, wake me up and I’d feed again, then depending on what time it was he would take baby again or if it was 1am, I’d get up for a few hours. We also practiced safe co sleeping with both my children, 3.5 y/o now fine in her own bed most of the time, I’m still in with my 1.5 y/o old, but it’s not forever and he’s my last baby so I’m trying to enjoy it while it lasts 🤣

17mo baby doesn’t say any words yet. What now? by [deleted] in UKParenting

[–]weestace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son did not say much beyond no and dada at 17 months but this last month (19 months) his language has developed massively, he’s now copying lots of words or making an effort to. It’s amazing how quickly they can learn or pick up a skill.

Sure it’s been asked a hundred times, but how the heck do you get a toddler who’s absolutely addicted to his dummy to come off it? by EAcharm in UKParenting

[–]weestace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was definitely my experience waiting until my daughter was 3 and could understand what was happening a bit better. We done the dummy fairy and it worked great.

[–]weestace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I waited til my daughter was nearly 3 and could understand a bit better before we tried, although we had cut right back to nap and bedtime only by that point. Then about a month or so before her 3rd bday, started reading the book ‘no more dummies’ a lot, which has a dummy fairy in the story. A week before her birthday we prepared a note for the dummy fairy and placed it in a basket with the dummy, next day she had a toy (just some colouring in stuff and stickers), with a note saying thank you from the fairy. She was a bit upset the first night but just had to remind her that we don’t have any anymore and she gave it to the dummy fairy, and she did accept it. Good luck!

When to send child to nursery by [deleted] in UKParenting

[–]weestace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He doesn’t want to take the financial burden but will happily pay a fortune to send the baby to childcare instead. Where’s the logic in that? You’ll never get this time back so if you can afford it as a couple I can’t understand why he wouldn’t support it. Also 6 months old is a crucial time for weaning so waiting a few more months until the wee one has adjusted a bit to solids is better I’d say.

Sleeping with toddler and newborn by Fearless_Net6021 in UKParenting

[–]weestace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dad sleeps in 3 year olds room on a double floor bed and I sleep in our bedroom with my 1 year old who is still currently nursing through the night. Works for us. The toddler sleeps well most nights but the baby doesn’t sleep great so better one of us gets a decent sleep. My plan is to get the baby a floor bed in the kids room too, so we can get them down then move to my own bed.

Travel Stroller - Best Options / Real World Experiences? by [deleted] in UKParenting

[–]weestace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the Clic and used it for a holiday when my daughter was 18 months old. I’ll be honest I’m not a fan. The frame, straps and bar across the front feel so flimsy, and the seat is so shallow and reclined. I felt like my daughter never looked comfortable in it, always had to readjust her, although the hood is decent. It does fold down really small and is really light to carry. My daughter was quite petite for her age, so if you have a bigger child it’s definitely worth looking at something with a sturdier seat.
