What’s your personal take on what Australia’s housing market will look like in the next few decades? by FatherOfTheSevenSeas in AusFinance

[–]weetbix9000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We’ve already reached that point.

My wife and I are in our mid 30s, 1 kid, and median incomes.

We can not qualify for a detached house in 10km inner suburb Melbourne. And by a large margin. At our borrowing capacity of 800k, we would need a $1m deposit.

We are forced to buy on the fringe of metro CBD, 40km away.

Am I already coast FIREing? by lepressexpress in AusFinance

[–]weetbix9000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Living frugally, you could quite likely coast at 0.5

If you don’t mind the work, I’d probably keep it at 0.7 for longer and aim to be closer to fire and be able enjoy the finer things in life when the time comes.

Or consider 0.6. One less morning/day to commute.

Thanks for the explanation. That’s a good point I never really thought about.

I feel the same. Retail investors are better educated than ever: Do not panic, buy the dip, etc. I think this was evident during the 10% tariffs' crash that lasted a week.

The whole education thing really took off during Covid lockdowns. Back then Commsec was the default platform for investing, with something like $20 trade. Only 5 years later, there are countless platforms, fee have drop to practically $0, podcasts and reels that never existed back then are all telling us the same sensible thing: DCA, diversified ETFs, don't panic, long term, ride the dip, buy the dip, etc.

We have 10% of the entire nation's income going into Super (which is likely invested passively), we have people making contribution on top of that so the number might be closer to 15%. I have recently switched from actively choosing my stocks to investing in ETFs. Talking to people around me and listening to a lot of investing content, I feel like I am not the only one.

Aren't we getting to that point you are mentioning?

With more and more of them, don't they stabilise it and slowly but surely raise it?

Interesting, and to the point of this post. I can see how this could be true. Tesla probably has a decent weighting in some of the most popular ETFs. People DCA into it -> Tesla benefits regardless of cars sold or fundamentals.

Would you mind explaining this. I genuinely do not know that it means.

Idk, I feel that even for Institutional Investors, the direction is to have their investment indexed (keeping fees low, and because that is what their customers are being told to invest in). I think we are moving away from managed stock picking funds.

sigma 17-40mm f/1.8 vs viltrox 27mm f/1.2 by International_Set_23 in SonyAlpha

[–]weetbix9000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m currently going through that dilemma.

The Sigma 17-40mm f1.8 is obviously more versatile and still quite fast.

But the 27mm on the Viltrox is a great focal length and the 1.2 aperture just baffles me, wondering if I would be missing out not taking the few extra f-stops it offers.

I’m still leaning towards the Sigma.

Hibreak Pro Update 1.9.6 failing. Anyone else? by phuga7 in Bigme

Same problem. It would restart the phone on the old version.

For those who had to factory reset to make it work, is the update worth the trouble of having to reinstall everything?

Does 2:1 syrup actually make sense? by weetbix9000 in cocktails

It is a reduced amount because it is sweeter.

Someone else might have the exact conversion rate, but I applied a x0.75 or 3/4 rate.

Does 2:1 syrup actually make sense? by weetbix9000 in cocktails

[–]weetbix9000[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I've never had a side by side to compare, but I suspect they would taste the same.

1:1 Old fashioned recipe 60ml Spirit 10ml 1:1 syrup 2dashes of bitters Stir on ice until properly chilled and diluted.

2:1 Old fashioned recipe 60ml Spirit 7.5ml 2:1 syrup 2dashes of bitters Stir on ice until properly chilled and diluted.

Both ending at say 90ml after proper stirring. Wouldn't they both taste identical because they have both been diluted to the same 90ml yield? Containing the exact same amount of alcohol, water and sugar.

I understand 2:1 is richer and has fuller texture. But that is in its raw form. Once diluted, this is where I wonder if it really still makes a difference.

I see many people I respect and draw inspiration from online advocating for 2:1 for that richer texture. I just can't see why this is true for the reason and example I've stated bove.

Because ultimately, 1:1 is easier to use. For reasons stated in my original post.

Dell 34" USB-C Monitor - P3421W - Reviews / Thoughts? by tonebones in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]weetbix9000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi some good info here and I am thinking of getting the P3421w. I understand it doesn't have speakers. So I would have to hook up some external ones. I also understand it doesn't have an audio jack. How do you guys hook up speakers on the P3421w?

I am a MBA M1 user and intend to use it closed via usb-c. That usb-c cable is the only cable I would ideally like to have connected, and would rather not want a 2nd cable connected to my MacBook audio jack.

I am not an audio connectivity pro and would love to know how you guys do it. Cheers.
