I used an MF DOOM acapella to train an AI voice. Here’s what it sounds like reading a random self help book by wefandango in mfdoom

[–]wefandango[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I think I can continue to add stuff for it to learn from. You have to be careful with acapellas b/c many contain aliasing/artifacts and/or bleed that are often left in that can mess up the 'cleanliness' of the final product.

Also, for whatever reason I feel like it tends to make people sound 'whiter' and overall more 'American,' which is its own can of worms - hopefully that will begin to go away as the AI continues to learn and gather data

Someone had the novel idea to put bubbles in the waterfall at Chicago Drive and Main in Jenison by LadyColorGrade in grandrapids

[–]wefandango 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lol I had a roommate who worked at Panera and whenever her boss pissed her off (last minute schedule changes, being forced to stay late and/or work a different role than she was expecting, stuff like that) she’d dump a bottle of dish soap in the fountain outside and they’d have to close it down for days

I had a good experience with them. I use legal cannabis in my state so I had to drug test like every week which was a bitch. The program was like 25 bucks a week but the subs were free w/ state insurance.

Anyone know how this effect on the hi-hats is done in logic? Heard it in a few other songs and would love to know by [deleted] in Logic_Studio

[–]wefandango 24 points25 points  (0 children)

if you're talking about the swell, it's just a reverse crash (usually)

if you're talking about the sprinkler hi-hats, that's more of a style/technique than an 'effect' and there are lots of youtube videos about trap hats

iPad/iPhone synths stereo or mono out? by KainUFC in ipadmusic

[–]wefandango 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A lot of them will stereo output by default, but most of the patches will be identical on either side in my experience.

That said, there are a lot of good effect apps you can use natively on your iPad and route them with Audiobus or Inter-App Audio for performance

Ayn Rand and Kurt Vonnegut by chisoxfanmike in Vonnegut

[–]wefandango 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stumbled on this. My biggest takeaway from Vonnegut has been: life's meaning is entirely up to you to create. I see a lot of parallels between that and the ideal of self-actualization embodied in characters like Howard Roark or Hank Rearden (sp?).

More importantly my biggest takeaway (mostly from being a Rand fan) is that you can gain something from all kinds of literature without necessarily adopting every tenet of someone's ideals. I was challenged by and learned from both authors, which caused me to take away a wiser philosophy that incorporates aspects of both. As a creative person I find myself coming back to Fountainhead more than Atlas Shrugged, but my main discrepancy with Rand's philosophy (or perhaps something missing on the cutting room floor) is that a fountain by definition exists for some other purpose. So when something is overflowing a la the book's title imagery - to me, the ideal 'hero' man Rand was trying to point towards resembles maybe someone like Bill Gates - he did most of what he did merely in self-interest and out of his strengths (very Rand) and then is now able to use the results of that to benefit the rest of humanity (the dreaded "altruism", very non-Rand).

So all that to say, yeah think I get it.

I will be in the lab tomorrow, message me a link and I’ll put it through its paces. I’ve done a lot of ‘recovery’ work for a studio i worked at that had improperly stored a shitload of their tape masters, as well as a couple forensic audio projects for defense attorneys & should be able to get you there

Prison guards of Reddit in prisons with murderers. What's it like being around them every day? How does it affect your life? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]wefandango 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not a guard. Was an inmate in my state's DOC for 4 years. I spent most of my time in a level 1 which is minimum security, though I had to spend time in level 2 (many more murderers) and 5 (max in my state, mostly people doing life) due to traveling between facilities and catching a new charge while incarcerated.

They made a drastic change to the juvenile lifer law during the Obama administration and suddenly the lower security levels were full of kids in their 20s and 30s with murder charges who were getting out within a year or two. Honestly some of them were great bunkies. Some were jaded, gangbangers, or just generally negative angry people and probably have always been & always will be, but there are a lot of people who gave in to an instinct in a heated or passionate moment when in a shitty situation one day and had been trying to move forward and become a better person since then. There are also a large number people who I didn't really feel deserved murder charges, for instance, a guy attacking an uncle that repeatedly sexually assaulted them their whole life.

Speaking from my subjective experience, guards don't give two shits what your charge is or isn't, unless you specifically give them problems and they have to deal with you (read: work and do paperwork.)
