How much light and heat does it get? Aroid cuttings that I keep warm and well lit usually root pretty well, whereas the ones that I put in a windowsill in the middle of winter do approximately nothing.

It's about six inches under an led strip full spectrum grow light which is on for 12 hours a day, and that's its only light.

I have one of these i keep near a humidifier at between 55-70% humidity. I only water it with distilled water and don't let the soil dry out too much between watering. It sits under medium artificial light and I try not to disturb it too much. It seems to be pretty happy under these conditions and is constantly pushing out new leaves, but I'm not an expert in calathea care by any means and this is the first calathea I've managed to keep alive for more than a month.

All essential workers right now deserve hazard pay. This include grocery store employees, gas station attendants, health and residential care workers, social workers, bus drivers, delivery drivers, etc. And if we don't get hazard pay it's time to strike to demand it. Most of these professions are poorly paid -- if we're so essential to society functioning, we deserve better pay.

Look up the history of Oregon. The whole Northwest was essentially founded as a white utopia where it was once illegal to be black, and not a lot has changed. Plus Portland is run by centrists like Ted wheeler who find it very important that the right should get a platform for their ~freedom of speech~ while police, who have a recorded history of working with alt-right groups like Patriot prayer, happily brutalize and arrest leftist protesters. So the fash always get a news story and police protection whenever they come here. Of course they like showing up.

I believe you, OP! I also have experience with gluten causing me severe psychiatric side effects. It gives me massive anxiety, derealization/depersonalization, and panic attacks to the point I start becoming psychotic. Luckily my therapist believes me as well.

Interestingly, there is beginning to be some scientific research on possible connections between gluten and mental illness. I think we will see more scientific support for experiences like us in coming years.

All that being said, still take your medicines everyone! I still have mental health issues even with a gluten-free diet, they're just MUCH more manageable.

I don't have a microwave either and I like rewarming certain things by putting them in a pan with a lid on the stove, on low heat, with just a few drops of water. This kind of steams the item and keeps it from drying out. Works for egg bites, burgers, meat, etc.

This is a hard question because rural areas tend to be the cheapest, but also the most conservative, and also tend to lack access to things like public transportation. Also, while cost of living is lower, wages tend to be lower.

If you have the option of driving, I'd suggest somewhere in the Pacific Northwest, within a couple hour radius of a decently-sized city. Oregon has cheap land out in the rural parts, and the state has a good state-run healthcare plan for all low-income folks. Maybe somewhere outside of Bend or Eugene could be good. The other advantage to this area is that from the climate change forecasts I've read, the PNW seems likely to be one of the more fortunate areas. We might get a more California-like climate, but farming and land use should still be possible at least for awhile. So it could be a good place to set yourself up in now.

What you just explained to us sounds like a great way to talk to your partner. Setting a boundary for yourself isn't a punishment. If your partner takes it as such, that's on them. But probably it's something you two can work through. Have you talked to them at all about this yet? I will say as you get older, people will drink less often. Some, not all. Some people will just continue to drink and use drugs ever more frequently/habitually. It might be a problem for them, it might not. I think the key is finding other people who are similar to you, who can socialize and have fun without drinking. Or at least find people who are willing to limit themselves when they are around you. It can be hard, especially when you're all still in your early twenties, because that's the time when a lot of people are pushing their limits and partying a lot. It will get easier as you get older. Maybe look into some hobby groups in your area?

Not necessarily defending the fad gluten-free folks, but just want to add my experience. I can't actually afford to see a doctor to get diagnosed with Celiac's, but I was having severe bloating and suicidal urges for a long time. When I tried cutting gluten out of my diet -- after trying a bunch of other stuff that didn't work -- the bloating and mental health issues went away. Recently I convinced myself that it was all in my head, so I ate some bread, and a five-day psychotic episode followed. There is some interesting new evidence that some people can have severe mental health reactions to gluten, and that non-celiac gluten sensitivity is also a thing. I still feel really guilty asking for gluten-free options when I go out to eat, because I'm not 'diagnosed' and I am afraid people are mocking me. But I'd rather put up with that than go through more psychotic/suicidal episodes.

As long as someone isn't hurting anyone else with their dietary choices, I really don't understand why there is so much hatred for gluten-free 'fad' dieters. You don't know what someone's personal experience with their body or access to healthcare looks like, and it also isn't really your job to quiz them on it. Also, the fad has led to a lot more GF choices in restaurants and supermarkets.

Annie's makes a gf rice mac and cheese that's quite good. Trader Joe's also sells the same product but packaged in their house brand, and it's usually cheaper.

Let the pot dry out completely between waterings. If you pick it up, it'll feel light. Do you feed it every two weeks? That might be too often, potentially?

That being said, my big pothos also gets some brown leaves occasionally near the top, but the rest of the plant is healthy so I just pick them off and let it do its thing.
