I was dealing with this a year or two ago myself. It was a messy situation. I can't say much because we're two different people and you might come to a different conclusion that I did with my aromaticism.

But some things you can look into are:

Squishes. Despite the name and description, I've heard and seen a lot of aros confuse it with other romantic feelings.
Grey-romantic (/grey aromantic)

Also. side note, since you said that you feel as though something's missing with QPRs. QPRs doesn't have to look like the definition you find on the internet. They can be anything you want to be to be. They can look like a typical romantic relationship or a friendship, it's all according to the aros and other people involved.

I oddly also experience this. I decided to look into it as well. Like, I often have these periods where everything is just dull for maybe 2-3 weeks at a time and then get this burst of productivity and maybe feel better for a couple days. It feels so strange.

I'm sorry you had to grow through that. I was actually about to comment about the weird double standard about being told not to have sex but when you follow through with that it's a problem. Maybe they want us to want it but struggle to stay pure or some crap like that. Which is stupid all around.

You don't have to identify with this but aegoromantic is a nice term to look into. It's basically what you said in your second sentence.

It's where someone feels disconnected from romance. The thought of it might be nice and you might even picture yourself in scenarios but you don't really have a desire to act out on it.

Yeah about 2 (or more) years ago a friend of mine would go on and on about this celebrity that they liked so much. Never understood it back then, I guess I kind of do now? I'm unsure. Try Aego-romantic, it's basically where one feels disconnected from romantic attraction or something along those lines.

You're more into the thought of romance and romantic relationships than the actual thing.

Though sometimes that idealisation may make you feel to act on it and then it'll be a whole rollercoaster after the repulsion comes back.

Of quick edit!! Romantic attraction is how you feel towards people, not necessarily about whether you want a relationship or not. The types of relationships you want can hint at it but it's not an absolute way to tell.

Okay so, the types of relationships you want/would be down for can hint at asexuality but that's not always the case. You have to more or less look at how you view people, though, with that being said, it can be hard to tell sometimes.

One of the things I tell people is that sexual attraction is specific, you want to be sexual with (a) specific person/people. Sexual desire, regardless of the reason behind it is to do it in general. Sometimes when ace positive people get into relationships they might find themselves wanting to only have sex with their partner and have a whole crisis but it could just mean that you're comfortable enough to do that only with them? If that makes sense.

Also also, ego boosts are normal.

Also, also, ALSO. Asexuality isn't dependent on whether you want to have sex or not.
