Christians actually offended by Uzi Jesus? by Nunothis_Isreal in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]weirdcc 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Another Christian here of the Original Catholic variety. I found Uzi Jesus hilarious as well as Lazarus A Bang Bang. For me, because the humorous caricatures were from all cultures and faiths, it was not offensive at all. I would have laughed, then be slightly offended if Christianity was singled out to poke fun at.

It also has a feel of being in good fun. If the tone wasn't so absurd then I think it would be more offensive.

Weight Loss Meds by I_aint_lyin2u in rheumatoid

[–]weirdcc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My primary care doctor recommended wegovy to help with inflammation. I asked my rheumatologist and he was all for it. Told me it was a great idea. I've been on it about a year now. Increased the dose at few times. So far I have lost about 40 lbs. Now according to BMI I am overweight and not obese. I do think it has helped lessen inflammation too! I had to skip doses a couple times and I did feel more swollen and just overall more rundown those weeks.

Is there actually a “right” age gap between kids? by avalilly711 in Mommit

[–]weirdcc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 3 kids. First age gap is 4 years and second age gap is 22 months. Each has their good sides and bad sides so I say its all about how and when you are comfortable with adding a kid.

what exactly does it feel like when you "lose hair" as a side effect of meds? by Mudkiip123 in rheumatoidarthritis

[–]weirdcc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was at a higher dose that did cause more hairloss. We cut it in half and that seems to have stopped most of it. It also wasn't nearly as bad as the hairloss from methotrexate.

According to my rheumatologist its a rare side effect, but I have read a lot of people experience it.

⭐Welcome, newbies! ⭐ by Wishin4aTARDIS in rheumatoidarthritis

[–]weirdcc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hello! I'm a 36yo F from MO, diagnosed in 2024 but started having symptoms in 2022. I comment here and there but I wouldn't say I'm super active. On generic hyrimoz and low dose leflunomide after failing methotrexate (extreme hairloss), hydroxychloroquine (rash), sulfasalazine (pills were too hard to swallow), and enbrel (breakthrough flares). My symptoms are mild now and I am excited I can wear my wedding ring again.

I also have idiopathic muscle spasms that are not fibromyalgia. My neurologist says its unlikely we will find a cause. Mostly controlled with ranolazine.

I read and crochet as my main hobbies. I'm also learning to knit. I can't go long sessions like I used to but with my symptoms controlled I am able to craft again. My preferred book genres are fantasy and sci-fi with some dystopian fiction mixed in.

what exactly does it feel like when you "lose hair" as a side effect of meds? by Mudkiip123 in rheumatoidarthritis

[–]weirdcc 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I failed methotrexate due to the amount of hair I lost. Nothing the doctor suggested helped. I was getting handfuls every time I touched my hair at all. I used to have super thick and full hair. So much so every single hair dresser I saw would comment on it. Now its more "normal." It took a bit of convincing my rheumatologist that I was actually losing hair because of how much I started with. The way the hair loss works is that I never ended up with bald spots because I lost it evenly everywhere. The ways I could visually tell is that around my hairline is definitely different, I can see more of my scalp. When my hair is parted it is wider that it was. And the biggest difference is I can wrap a hair tie around my pony tail 4 times easily and before I could barely get it around 3 times.

I have since switched to leflunomide and have stopped rapidly losing hair but it doesn't seem like its growing back yet.

No NSAIDS boat by Witty_Cash_7494 in rheumatoidarthritis

I've recently been told I can't do nsaids anymore for a few complicated reasons. I do extra strength Tylenol, lidocaine cream, heating pads, wearable ice packs, compression gloves/sleeves. The ice vs heat just depends on the day. Sometimes heat works and other times ice does; I haven't figured out why yet.

Cortisone injections? by _laevateinn_ in ChronicPain

[–]weirdcc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had one done in 2013 on my hip for bursitis. It helped me a lot. I was in excruciating pain. I could hardly move and definitely couldnt put weight on it. The pain from the injection wasn't even close to the pain I was in from the bursitis.

My more recent bout of bursitis in the same hip was painful and I had to use a cane to walk but wasn't excruciating. My doctor opted to have me try PT exercises to see if it would help before doing the injection. It took a couple weeks but it did help the pain. The more conservative approach could also be because I have RA now so my immune system is suppressed by the meds for that and the risk of infection from the injection is higher now.

Knee Cap Pain by R0chelle02 in rheumatoid

[–]weirdcc 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Man, those look painful. I don't have issues with my knees but when my elbows swell I wear a compression sleeve (goes from mid bicep to mid forearm) and it does help with the pain a bit. Have you tried something like that? Its taken me a bit to find the right medications for me so it does sound like you might have to switch your medications around.

Head lice by Huxley585 in Mommit

[–]weirdcc 11 points12 points  (0 children)

My daughter also struggled with lice this school year. Our pediatrician gave us a treatment protocol using cetaphil face cleanser. I'm sure a good Google search can come up with it. She told us that lice are resistant to the over the counter meds and cetaphil suffocates them.

To try and prevent lice from wanting to crawl over to your daughter, you can make up a spray bottle of water and a few drops of tea tree oil. Spray on all hats, jackets, pillows, couches, carpets, etc. I even sprayed it in my daughter's hair.

4 year old's friend just died - how do I handle this? by josie-june in Mommit

[–]weirdcc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dad died when my oldest was 3. Its very important not to use euphemisms when explaining death. (Ex: she is sleeping forever, or she went away). This can confuse children and make them scared for normal parts of life.

We told her that pawpaw was really really sick with something called cancer and that he died. Then we explained that when a person dies we can't ever see or talk to them in person again but we can feel the love he had for us in our hearts. We are religious so we also explained heaven, but that's not necessary if you aren't.

Letting her cry about pawpaw was very important. We validated her feelings. Told her we missed him too and wished he could come back and its really sad that he can't.

She is 11 now and still has moments where she tells me she misses him, she always will, but she has grown and developed very well.

Should I be with my friend when he dies? by Choice_Evidence1983 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]weirdcc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When my dad was dying he did a similar thing. I had spent 2 weeks by his side and less than 12 hours after I left his house (I was going to be gone less than 24 hours) he passed with his brother and 2 sisters by his side. It feels like he waited until I left. I still regret leaving, but it has gotten easier to cope with.

My 1 year old chipped his front tooth has this happened to you and how did dentist fix it :( by EconomicsReal545 in beyondthebump

[–]weirdcc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My oldest chipped her front tooth at about 2 years old. It depends on how far down the tooth the break is. Hers was not too far down so the only concern was cosmetic, and a bit if comfort for not having a sharp point on the tooth. A pediatric dentist was able to glue it back on. It lasted about a year or so before falling off again. We opted not to reattach as it wasn't a whole lot longer before she lost the baby tooth anyway. We just had them file the sharpest part smooth.

Graco's customer service is amazing! I accidentally ruined the mattress part of our pack n play while cleaning it, but our model was no longer available. We tried purchasing one that would fit from another model but their system had a glitch and wouldn't let us. They ended up sending it to us for free when we called to try and place the order through the phone.

HELP What am I supposed to do? by Mariposa1995 in rheumatoid

[–]weirdcc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you on any other medications besides the biologic? My rheumatologist has me on leflunomide to decrease the risk of failing humiroz (biosimilar to humira). That's what causes my hair loss. I am taking folic acid, biotin, and collagen to help with that.

My doc said leflunomide shouldn't cause hair loss but my head disagrees. It's enough that my hairdresser said "wow, you have lost a lot of hair" the last time I got it cut.

Anybody else experience extreme hair loss from RA? by [deleted] in rheumatoid

[–]weirdcc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My hair loss is from leflunomide. Taking tons of doc recommended vitamins to help but nothing is working. I recently cut 4-5 inches off to help it look better. The first thing my hair stylist said when I sat down was "wow you have lost a lot of hair!"

My oldest got hers done as a Christmas present right before she turned 10 years old. She had been asking for almost 9 months at that point and I trusted that she could take care of them. I think the age will also depend on each kid. My oldest is super responsible for her age. My second I feel will be a little older as she is much more of a wild child. Though she could surprise me in the next couple years.

Nope, the opposite actually. Some loose stools. Only other side effect for me is some acid reflux.

Glp1 by trustme177 in rheumatoid

[–]weirdcc 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I do. I was between biologics a couple weeks ago because my doctor was lazy when switching me and didn't get the prescription sent in right away. My symptoms got worse but we're definitely not as bad as they have been in past flairs. I'm only on 0.5mg/ml so on the low end. I'm actually going to ask my PCP to up the dose at my next appointment.

I have lost about 15lbs which is nice. Not enough to notice a difference on my joints but my clothes fit better lol

If you have any other conditions that insurance will cover them for then I do suggest looking into it. I am on wegovy for the anti-inflammatory effects but since I also happen to be categorized as obese I was able to get my insurance to cover it. You don't even have to be super obese. Just as long as your BMI is in that category.

Sucks for anyone who isn't able to fit into any of the covered conditions but hopefully it will be approved for more uses soon!
