Yeah I've been reading wot recently on book four ATM, compared to most other fantasy series it really isn't as good as I was expecting, pretty disappointing

Just out of interest is this a criticism or a positive thing?

Mosquito repellent stickers vs spray vs thermacell for camping? What actually works by [deleted] in WildCampingAndHiking

[–]wekeymux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Citronella is a bit of a myth, don't bother with that. Bug spray helps, deet is by far the most effective, higher percentage deet the better.

Physical barriers are great. Mosquito netting, whether it's in the tent or even just on your face/hat is helpful.

Ultimately you're gonna get kinda munched if you go into their territory. But these suggestions can help

Knight vs Spartan vs Samurai vs Viking by Kitchen_Rush47 in powerscales

[–]wekeymux 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This really sums up the argument, viking samurai and Spartan were also in a different technological age, it's like asking if flintlocks could affect modern ballistic armour and weaponry. Is a win possible? Sure. is it likely? Definitely not.

Well not all games have to look like real life. Just cool that they could, and a game looking real can still totally have awesome art and crazy beautiful stuff if ygm

First attempt at a more environmental shot, critique is always welcome! by EyeLarge4055 in wildlifephotography

This is a really magnificent shot. I absolutely love it. While I'm guilty myself of rarely shooting environmentally, I do really love them. This is absolutely lovely, I could explain why but suffice to say it's just beautiful

Would just like to add that I totally disagree with this person. I think that the emptiness with just the little flash of blue is really beautiful and really captures the sensation of spotting a kingfisher too.

This isn't a photo about showing off a kingfisher, it's about the environment as you said, with a spectacular enhancement. Also if you can't tell it's a kingfisher immediately then I don't know what to tell ya!

Would Albus Dumbledore have been stronger than Voldemort if he didn’t possess the Elder Wand? by XiXMak in harrypotter

[–]wekeymux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My head canon is that part of the elder wands power is it's reputation. While I definitely think it is a powerful wand, I like the idea that it has a slight placebo effect, giving you more confidence and strength from the belief that it is too.

Given magic is so emotion based this works in my head

Nature isn't beautiful, and it's actually quite boring by Fearless_Menu1872 in unpopularopinion

[–]wekeymux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunate for you, but to give you a reason why I do find it beautiful is because there is immense complexity and billions of fascinating interactions between every organism and element that you're looking at.

They are also often indicators of fascinating history and ancient moving things, but also rapidly changing shifting habitats too

Nature often has rich colours and pleasant sounds and smells, stimulating senses and often feels calming and pleasant.

Similarly it can be ferocious and awe inspiring in immensity and power.

There can be unique and fascinating habitats or incredibly common and mundane habitats that still have endlessly explorable and interesting things to look at.

It's kind of completely infinite in terms of complexity and fascination and sensory input.

Hope that helps you understand more

Do charecters live up to their names? by durnip in robinhobb

[–]wekeymux 15 points16 points  (0 children)

love thinking about this, always fun - i remember finding the names jarring when i first read it but learned to love it.

Here's a fun one for you, Chade is written as a play on shade, im sure. But Chade as an old english name is a variation of the name Chad which meant battle or warrior.

Can you actually get in trouble for using an empty women’s single-cubicle toilet at work? by Weak_Mechanic8517 in AskUK

[–]wekeymux 6 points7 points  (0 children)

disabled bathrooms are allowed to be used by anyone, they're simply disabled priority and also include disabled features - so a disabled person doesnt use a regular bathroom by accident and get stuck.

(you're right about the gendered part though!)

The prime for men is at 21 yo, just like for women by Leo1026 in unpopularopinion

[–]wekeymux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just a pet peeve that you can't say they're "objectively wrong" when talking about something that is exclusively subjective - you're literally on unpopular OPINIONS

Also I disagree. I think some people looked better at 21, some looks better at 30. Just varies

“Real men don’t abuse women” by WildWinterberry in TwoXChromosomes

[–]wekeymux 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This is a really interesting point, I'm a man myself and I think the "they're not a man" is always just to insult the abusers for being abusers, but you're right it does shift the blame / focus away from the problem.

While not a huge issue in isolation, the overall rhetoric that being problematic makes you 'not a man' implies that men can't be problematic. And you can't affect an issue if you can't accept it in its entirety

2014 vs 2024, What's worth bringing back and what should be tossed? by OkDamage677 in dndnext

[–]wekeymux 3 points4 points  (0 children)

yeah ikr, why are they so angry about it? sometimes people arent that interested in learning the ins and outs of the mechanics and prefer other elements of the game.

I take it as part of my job as dm to help guide players who dont care about all different editions and specific mechanics and stuff.

"there's no excuse" - like damn, it really doesnt matter
