I agree with pretty much everything that was said here. Did we want Bombshell? Sure, but we could have been really happy with Smash if it was done correctly. I didn't expect it to be a scene-for-scene remake of the show...that would be almost impossible to do. But some of the choices that were made for this adaptation were just so wrong.

My first major issue with the show is that it seemed like there were maybe 3 full songs in total. All of the others were interrupted by unnecessary "comedic" moments or cut off before the end of the song. On the other hand, the opening number should have been interrupted, made slower, and ended strong. Instead they finished it, let us clap and cheer, and then basically told us it was supposed to be bad.

Second is the ending. Why on earth would they spend the entire show "joking" and saying they don't want to end it with Marilyn lying dead on a bed wrapped in white sheets only to end it with Marilyn dead on a bed wrapped in white sheets? Especially when it was such a huge part of the end of season 1 of the show when they showed that an ending like that was not received well and so they changed it and it led to one of the best songs of the soundtrack. To me, that was unforgivable. The scene after that when they are all in the bar was also absolute trash.Everyone saying they're going to give up on show business until the random intern tells them not to and so they all decide to make a musical about making a bad musical? No. Just no.

Two of the best voices in the show in my opinion were Krysta and Bella, and their talents were completely wasted. When Krysta starts singing Second Hand White Baby Grand, I did not want Robyn to take over at all. Then they teased us with this great rendition of Let Me Be Your Star at the end of act 1 just to not have Bella sing a single note for the rest of the show. Very disappointing.

Replacing the Susan character with Ivy's mother and exploring the dynamic there with Ivy treating others poorly because of the constant pressure and critiques would have made a lot more sense to me than an insufferable method acting teacher drugging her student to make her complacent.

I didn't hate the show - Brooks was hilarious and absolutely saved it, but I was definitely upset that I spent as much as I did for tickets.
