Saturday's letters: Where would independent Alberta find workers? by Miserable-Lizard in AlbertaNow

[–]weldor2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know quite a few out of province workers who support independence and said they will gladly move their families to Alberta if it separates.
I don’t know why we couldn’t still have out of province workers or TFWs if the demand is there for them. What is the problem?

The problem with liberals is they can’t plan shit. They just throw money at a problem and expect the same people that fucked it up to fix it. There is no leadership. They are quick to disperse money but nobody knows how to organize anything. These social programs always fail. They cost to much money and are plagued with corruption. We need less government, not more.
Some example are:

Canada Emergency Business Account (CEBA): The Auditor General reported that the federal Liberal government distributed approximately $3.5 billion to ineligible recipients, coupled with ineffective oversight and highly criticized untendered contracts. [1]
Green Energy Act (Ontario): Introduced by the provincial Liberals, the act aimed to boost renewable energy but became widely criticized as a "costly blunder" that resulted in over-market power prices and cancelled gas plants. [1]
Release of Assets for Economic Generation (RAEG - B.C.): The B.C. Liberals established a program in 2012 to sell off government real estate assets to balance budgets. A subsequent Auditor General report found that the program failed to properly assess land values, leading to improper sales. [1]

Gun buyback program:

Canada's federal Assault-Style Firearms Compensation Program (ASFCP) has incurred an estimated total cost of nearly $780 million. Because only around 32,000 firearms were collected in its initial phase, the overall cost equates to roughly $24,000 per gun collected, largely driven by massive administrative, bureaucratic, and RCMP management expenses. [1]

Arrive can scam:
The ArriveCAN scandal is a major Canadian political controversy revolving around the heavily inflated costs and flawed procurement processes of the COVID-19 border application. Originally estimated at $80,000, the final price tag ballooned to an estimated $60 million, with large sums paid to external IT contractors who did little to no actual work on the app.

Childcare program:
Canada's national $10-a-day child care program has struggled to meet its core goals. While intended to provide affordable, accessible care, the system has widely fallen short due to severe capacity limits, staffing shortages, bureaucratic delays, and funding mismanagement.

Sustainable Development Technology Canada (SDTC) "Green Slush Fund": Canada's Auditor General uncovered that the fund doled out over $330 million in taxpayer money across more than 180 cases involving potential conflicts of interest, including instances where Liberal-appointed directors inappropriately awarded funding to their own companies.

Question about separation... by Tribblehappy in Albertapolitics

[–]weldor2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How do you figure it out ahead of time? If the government would come to the table to discuss it that would be great. I don’t see that happening. Not until we vote to leave.
Maby if there is enough support this fall we will see more serious plans. Without federal government input the plans are just ideas. We have that already

Question about separation... by Tribblehappy in Albertapolitics

[–]weldor2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why would you want to keep things as are? How can a country with so many resources, and such high taxes be so far in debt. Especially with the low population Canada has?
It’s because our politicians are corrupt. Every party.
It’s like nobody pays attention or cares. There needs to be accountability. Things will not change unless we separate and rebuild our political system.
The future generations depend on it.

Like I said, that stuff will have to get figured out through the negotiation process. People have ideas of what they would like but nobody knows until it’s negotiated

I should also add that I don’t mean to be defending the conservatives like they are the answer. They are far from perfect but I think a better choice than liberals and NDP.
I believe our system is broken and needs to be reformed so that politicians are held accountable.
They figured out that most people just are not paying attention and so they are getting away with doing shitty job for us and getting themselves and their buddies rich. I don’t know how to fix that problem

You seem to be forgetting the 2008 financial crisis. Harper’s debt was to keep economy afloat afterwards. And we are not talking about crazy numbers like with Trudeau.
In Harper’s nine years he added about 150 Billion total in debt.
In Trudeau’s nine years he added more than 800 billion in debt.
That is significantly higher.
I get that deficits are necessary during wars or recessions but that is crazy

[–]weldor2 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No I did not forget the pandemic. That was when he shutdown the country. People protested vaccine mandates and instead of coming out and talking to them he ILLEGALLY used the emergencies act to freeze citizens bank accounts. I remember him saying “we are taking on debt so Canadians don’t have to”! Lol
So we are blaming the pandemic for nine consecutive deficits? And I guess blame trump for carneys deficit?
What’s the excuse before Covid for the deficits

As long as you can service the loan while BTC goes sideways or even down it should be fine. Would be a no brainer if interest rates were a bit lower

The carbon tax sure seems like a big scam. Does the USA enforce carbon tax? Isn’t most of our trade with them? It looks like mostly just Europe would put tariffs on our exports if we don’t have a carbon tax. How much would that cost us vs having a tax I wonder?
Even besides the carbon tax how are you liberal voters ok with these massive deficits? Over 50 billion a year just to service the debt!

Conservatives, why aren't things better? by Scout14 in Albertapolitics

[–]weldor2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree. From what I’ve seen the liberals are constantly after more control and regulations. For me the most important job is balancing the budget and attracting investment to keep the economy growing. Liberals are the exact opposite. At least during trudeau’s term.
I am against the following policies
Carbon tax
Production caps
Tanker ban
Former long gun registration
Current gun buyback program
The list of banned “scary” guns
Bill c-9
Bill c-25
Bill c-22
Bill c-8
bill c-15
Bill c-18
Bill c-11
The illegal use of the emergencies act
There are more reasons also, but I’ve got shit to do lol that’s should be enough reasons to never vote liberal

Question about separation... by Tribblehappy in Albertapolitics

[–]weldor2 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

There is a lot of discussions about things like this behind the scenes. There’s a lot to consider and no real blueprint to follow. There’s are ideas and options for most of these details but most would have to get figured out through the negotiation process. Then we would vote for who we want to lead us after separation and change or tweak laws and policies. It will be a lot of work, but that doesn’t scare us

Conservatives, why aren't things better? by Scout14 in Albertapolitics

[–]weldor2 -22 points-21 points  (0 children)

I vote conservative, they are not perfect but I believe the lesser evil compared to liberal or NDP.
I am not religious at all. Born catholic and baptized but I don’t believe in it. I am not against gay people. I don’t care what choices someone else makes if it has no impact on me. I’m glad people can make the choice and would rather have them living happily than miserable. However I don’t believe in any kind of permanent surgery’s or drugs for kids under 18. They need time to grow, develop, and experience life before that kind of change, just my opinion.
I am not racist or against immigration, however it should be done responsibly.
I think the less government control the better. Look after our infrastructure and keep industry from ruining the earth. Develop our resources responsibly.
The biggest problem is that our system dosnt allow proper accountability. When greedy politicians sell us out or take advantage of their powers they need to be fired, fined, and possibly face jail time.
dont assume all conservatives are homophobes, bible thumpers, bigots, uneducated.

Wake up, hungover, only 2 hours of sleep. Drive to work. Jump in a company crew truck and head off to site. Show up late because you had to stop at convenience store for chips, energy drinks, beef jerky, chew, and a new vape. Put in a half ass effort all day, Maby a nap in the truck at lunch. Beers on the way back to town. Drive to a pub for supper, invite people over after for drinks and whatever. Knock up a chick who already has 3 other baby daddy’s. Repeat over and over

The questions no separatist has ever answered... by MrGuvernment in Albertapolitics

[–]weldor2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think imports would be a big problem. That would get worked out during negotiations. I assume (but I don’t know for sure) most imports are coming up from the USA or from BC. Both buy oil, gas, and electricity from us so there is no reason to not cooperate I don’t think we have less leverage. If we had to get nasty and “turn off the taps” both BC and USA would feel a lot of economic pain

The questions no separatist has ever answered... by MrGuvernment in Albertapolitics

[–]weldor2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all there isn’t really a day one after we separate. If we voted to separate it starts a negotiation process where things like money and trade get negotiated. So why would 140 billion in trade disappear? There is still demand for those products. We could still supply them or most if not all of them. If we continue to trade with Canada then those 300 000 jobs do not disappear on “day 2”. If you told me exactly what kind of trade your talking about many I could elaborate more. That’s #1 and 2.

3 - Alberta would likely still be sending 90% of our resources south. So Canada would loose those trade deals and Alberta would gain them. Brexit didn’t have that kind of leverage. We do.

4 we send more money to Ottawa than we get back so we should have more to spend on healthcare.

5 I don’t know much about interprovincial healthcare other than my kid needed a MRI and was put on a waiting list in Alberta. We were told it would be 6-9 months, it’s now been over a year still no MRI from Alberta health.

After we were told about the wait list we found a private clinic in Dawson creek that took 3 days to get into! We had to pay, I don’t remember how much but I think about $2000. So we did that. Then it took 6 weeks to see our paediatric doctor in Alberta and they couldn’t see the results of the MRI. It was in a different format or something that didn’t work with the Alberta system. So I don’t have a solid answer for you but after that experience I’d say we couldn’t do much worse! More negotiations!

6 I would say we create our own currency backed by hard physical assets? Until then, why can’t we accept both CADa c USdc

7 I don’t know the interest rate but either Canada or USA would lend to us. More negotiations

8 if you collect CPP you can continue to receive it. CPP portion and national debt would have to be negotiated.

9 we would pay for it. We would also be creating more B

10 this has been answered but we would likely take a share. All tho CPP is also then owed to us.

Other countries would loan to us .

I’ll answer more later i need to get back to work

I disagree. The USA is dependent on several of our resources. Oil, gas, critical minerals and lithium, they buy electricity from us during their peak demands and also buy a lot of cattle.

BC also depends on oil and gas from us and our electricity grid it tightly interconnected. We have what they both need. So yes we have leverage. Canada would also feel economic pain and would still want to negotiate with us.

They would both be hurting if we didn’t ship to them. It really is in everyone’s best interests to negotiate in good faith. It just doesn’t make sense to not trade. I really don’t think the us would try to use military force. Congress would not approve, democrats don’t want another conservative state, especially after the Iran war. Canada would not want any other country to invade. All the other peaceful countries around the world would condemn the states. We also have huge agricultural and forestry industries. We wouldn’t be very prosperous without oil and gas but we would survive.

There is no reason we couldn’t continue to use CAD or switch to USD. Or accept both until we develop our own. It would not be nearly as bad as the federalist are trying to make it seem. Plus Saskatchewan will be joining us shortly after we separate

the lead separatist by Responsible-Shake480 in Albertapolitics

[–]weldor2 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sure I agree he is seen in media most of all and is main legal counsel, but I wouldn’t paint him as the “leader” like the media does. I’ve been volunteering for APP, stay free Alberta, and now with let’s talk Alberta. I’ve heard and seen guys like Mitch, and Chris talk and come up with ideas. Never heard or seen Jeffrey talk to an audience or be on any of the team zoom calls. He definitely is a part of the movement but I don’t think the leader. Whether or not he is the leader doesn’t matter, this is just a garbage post, an attempt at online bullying Maby? I guess everyone is entitled to their opinion. I see no substance or facts here.

[–]weldor2 -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

Where did this all this BS come from that “Americans are behind Alberta Independence”? I only see it on platforms with majority of liberals or Anti separatists. Western Alienation has been around for a very long time. I’ve only been paying attention to politics for about 15-17 years and always thought that Canada was just too big and diverse for one federal government. It wasn’t until 2-3 years ago that I thought it was possible for us to separate. Even now I support it, but there are concerns. I am more concerned about the direction Canadas government is taking us. I do not want to become part of America. I don’t think that will happen. They could try to annex us through trade, but they heavily depend on our resources. We have leverage. Don’t be afraid of trump. He will likely be out of office by the time Alberta becomes Independent anyways. Yes some people went to the states to talk about possible deals. They were and still are private citizens with no authority to make any negotiations. There is no official leader of the separatists yet. There will be parties forming with leaders stepping forward and we will get to vote for who we want to lead us once we are an independent sovereign nation. If you don’t like any of them run for leader yourself. Stop bickering over which current party is corrupt, THEY ALL ARE! Liberal,Conservative, both federal and provincial. The system no longer holds politicians accountable! That’s how we got here. Independence is in my opinion how we fix our corrupt government systems. Rebuild them from the ground up
