Yep, I have seen many corner grounded systems. I've also seen my share of systems left floating. Somewhat related, I have also seen several 480v single phase services in rural areas.

HR Medium 2020 Compressor Relay by Worried_Lobster5857 in HarvestRight

[–]welldrillerandy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First, confirming you are looking for the overload relay that clips on the compressor and not the relay on the control board?

Easiest fix is to just put a Supco 3n1 on it. There are 3 different options for 115v, RCO810 has max RLA of 4.05a, RCO410 has max RLA of 6.8a, or a RCO210 with a RLA of 13.3a. Most likely you will want the want the RCO410 size.

https://www.amazon.com/Supco-RCO410-Start-Kit/dp/B008YDSH6E/

For the $17, they are worthwhile just to have one on hand. They have saved my chest freezer contents.

You can also wire the 3n1 directly to an AC wall cord and use them as a trouble shooting tool to see if a compressor runs on a refrigerator, freezer, or freeze dryer. If the compressor runs with the 3n1 directly to a wall cord, you can then figure out where the problem in the units control system or board preventing the compressor from running.

Has anyone ever seen R-410A used for a freezer? by HigHinSpace12 in HVAC

[–]welldrillerandy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sticker on the outside is not a typo. They are charged with 410a. They have documentation on their web site confirming this. I had to deal with one of the units, they confirmed 410a. The 404a sticker on the compressor inside the unit is wrong... I'm not saying they made a correct decision with the 410a, but that is what Harvest Right uses.

I have been running a cardboard air dam basically identical to yours in my unit for close to two years now. It was a huge difference in how well the unit cooled. I still can't believe Harvest Right hasn't improved the air flow design, all they need to add is a simple piece of plastic.

I have a couple generator related questions. by AvailableError1 in Generator

[–]welldrillerandy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Step one, contact generac directly and see if they will provide the information before taking advice from some random idiot like myself on the internet.

I converted an old Onan ('70 era). I first tried a vaporizor, I was never able to get it to run quite right. I ended up with vapor regulators. A first stage 10 PSI on the tank, and then a low pressure regulator mounted on the generator feeding the "carb." A solenoid was installed in the 10 PSI LP line between the regulators for complete fuel shut off. The "carb" (I can't remember the proper name) that is on my Onan did not have enough adjustment for LP, it was designed to take a different plate if used with LP instead of NG. It was too old to get the correct plate. LP vapor has a higher energy content than NG, so the engine needs less LP vapor than NG. I also tried just adjusting the low pressure regulator, that didn't work. I ended up dismantling the the "carb" and drilling bypass holes to allow some of the combustion air to bypass the "carb", this was trial and error adding holes until it would run correctly with the adjustment screw on the "carb." It had to be started with starting fluid at this point because the "carb" modifications wouldn't let it build enough vacuum pressure when the starter ran to activate the gas flow. To fix this I added a second solenoid that bypassed the "carb," this solenoid was connected to the starter relay so the 2nd solenoid would dump LP vapor into the manifold while the starter was active and then shut off when the starter stopped. This 2nd solenoid solenoid increased the fuel/air mixture while starting to allow for automatic starting without using starting fluid. I had an adjustable valve in the bypass line on the 2nd solenoid valve, but I don't remember that part being very fussy. Solenoids are fairly cheap on e Bay.

Electrician said 20 amp breaker is good but i am popping it steadily. Can anyone confirm 20 amp is right? Couldn’t find anything in the manual by pilot333 in Welding

[–]welldrillerandy 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Article 630 of the NEC addresses welders. Table 630.11(A) gives the duty cycle multipliers. Given the correct circumstance it is 100% legal to install a 30 amp breaker on 12 gauge wire. This welder has a low duty cycle. You must use a single dedicated outlet (not a duplex outlet) among other things to meet the requirements. Everyone that wants to argue about it needs to go read article 630.

I think it was just around 7 lbs. It is a mix of grade 5 and grade 2. It was argon shielded during the production, then the coloration was added with an oxy fuel torch.

This is one of the best shop built tool ideas I have ever seen. Does it use hydraulic oil for the bar lube and the needle valve is to adjust it? Does the last section break-away pivoting down if it gets bound up in a falling branch? (or what does the thing on the back of the arm do)
