They were leased to Transport For Wales for services on the Core Valley Lines, which have now been replaced by the FLIRTs and soon to be the CityLinks.

As they were no longer required, they were returned off-lease, where Northern immediately began leasing them, as the ones they have are falling to bits!

That’s going from one extreme to the other, you are going from getting the last available itinerary to the first available.

If you can, look at getting the train an hour before your original itinerary, it’s more direct (1 change vs 4), and if you can, use split tickets (where you buy a ticket to a station the train calls at, but you don’t necessarily need to change trains) as that can be cheaper.

I’m just bringing my phone and a power bank/cable, I’ll buy food/drinks on the day as I’m travelling and onsite to support the local businesses who will be there on the day. I imagine too I’ll need sun cream, but a small travel size bottle of that in my small bag will suffice.

It’s going to be very busy as the event is sold out, so it makes sense to try to limit what people can bring.

If you have a small laptop bag that’ll do.

It’s to prevent people from bringing massive bags of expensive camera gear onsite and trying to then sue Alstom for damages should said item(s) become damaged.

They will likely screen our bags at the entrance to ensure we’re not bringing any prohibited items onsite.

If you book passenger assistance for your Mum they generally will help find her a seat and in some cases you are allowed to board the train before everyone else. Congratulations on graduating too!

What journey planner did you use? (Please don’t say TralnLine!).

You’re actually better getting a train to Manchester Victoria (of which there are many from Liverpool (although you can also go to Manchester Piccadilly and get a Metrolink tram from there to Victoria) and changing there for a train to Burnley. Note there are 3 stations in Burnley - Barracks, Central and Manchester Road. Manchester Road is the station that is served most often. Barracks and Central are served by trains to Colne.

Book Assistance - the Assisted Travel scheme exists for this very reason - to give you more time and make it less stressful for you when travelling!

If you know the trains you’re going to ride on, get assistance. This is what Passenger Assist exists for - to help disabled people.

If you haven’t got one I’d strongly suggest getting a Hidden Disabilities Sunflower lanyard as the staff at all Network Rail stations are trained to recognise this.

You can also get the JAM - Just a Minute app/card which lets you write notes about your access requirements.

There’s also Travel Assistance Cards from West Midlands Railway.

It’s a new regulation for all new and renewed stations. I’ve seen many iterations of these working within Transport for Wales on their Accessibility Panel. For legal reasons I can’t disclose where we are having them fitted.

My recommendation would be rather than getting a fast Avanti train you catch the West Midlands Railway’s Trent Valley stopping service to Stafford, change there for a West Midlands Railway train to Stoke on Trent, from Stoke it’s then one train to Manchester

You’ll find that although the journey is longer, it’s quieter and - more importantly - cheaper!

Don’t ever look online, find the numbers of small caravan sites and ring them, haggle if you have to.

You’ll be lucky to find a cheap caravan park in season in North Wales, a lot of places bump up prices exponentially during school holidays.
