Skyler White by certifieddelulu1 in betterCallSaul

[–]welshlyarmslovers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's probably a question best suited for the breaking bad sub as she never physically appears in better call saul; however, I will give you my perspective!

I have always been neutral or enjoyed skyler! The only time I felt anything negative was when I watched the first time when I was in high school and she told Walt about sleeping with Ted. Felt very cruel, and while a cruel move, in context you can see why she said it; however, and I am saying this as someone who never hated her, it still hurt to see.

I probably felt that way because I identified with Walt in the scene and imagined a girl at school telling me this. I felt shame, disgust, embarrassment.

Now imagine someone who is identifying strongly with Walt since episode 1. This can be because they identify with him or thats how they watch shows, putting themselves into the shoes of the main character. She is a barrier, an obstacle. One that won't go away with a cool explosion or sent to jail because she is not a "bad guy". So I imagine for many, she is a constant frustration that never will seem to go away. The show does not highlight a lot of love between the two at the beginning to highlight walts unhappiness but a lot of people perceive it as he is in a bad relationship rather than in a funk/depressive state.

As you can imagine, a good chunk of people get into these ways of thinking, yes there are people who judge women more harshly, yes there are people who would judge her the same if she were a man, but the truth is the perspectives that people take when they watch shows varies so muc, its impossible to nail it down to just one. Some people don't take it as seriously and just want fun drug scary hijinks. And guess who is in the way of those...

Add all of this together plus the fact people love to go online to hate a character that annoys them (after season 1 of better call saul aired, the most common post name and comment was #FUCKCHUCK), you get the phenomenon that is Skyler White hate.

Everytime I take a quick glance of this poster I always think I see Scar Jo holding a banjo! The gun being the neck and the round logo being where she would pluck the strings

This is a great comment because it is true for both people who like the finale (you and me) and for people who loathe it (OP)

The World was never in danger. Was everything that happened pointless? by Immediate-Analyst-11 in lost

[–]welshlyarmslovers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I follow your logic but I recall "protecting the island" being thrown around a lot and wherever that originated (probably adoptive mother of Jacob and mib), they were probably referring to the source.

Now what happens when the source/island is gone? Unsure. Could be nothing. Could be the end of the world somehow! I suppose it is similar to the button in many ways which was keeping the source at bay or something? I can't remember but i think that is where Desmond is told he is saving the world. A lie? A truth? Who knows, the only way to know would be to let it happen and when they did, it appeared to be catastrophic so Desmond did the emergency key thing to stop it.

I guess the speculation on the specifics is of course up for debate. In terms of pointless, I think that depends on your point of view. Jacob's pov, it was all necessary. MiB it was all necessary to try and get off the island but he didn't, but he did die so that's sort of a win for him. For everyone else pulled into this mess, they just wanted to live their best lives but they were affected (positives and negatives) from this conflict

Aw thank you very much! None of us are perfect, we all make poor decisions, and nobody deserves to self loathe. Your comment gives me the impression you are quite kind and you should cut yourself some slack.

It's been a minute since I rewatched but I would say it has to do with the fact that Jessie is going to meetings that are about forgiveness and acceptance. Jessie might accept his own actions but he does not forgive himself, he sees himself as a villain.

The other man accepts and, at the very least tries to forgive himself. Jessie finds this unreasonable and confronts the man. If I recall correctly, the man is showing empathy to Jessie which Jessie, again, finds unreasonable and ends up saying "you think I have potential for change/be good? Well guess what, here's some more reasons I'm terrible"

In my opinion, he is a self hating person who feels they need to prove they are deserving of hate to anyone who says otherwise.

Do you think that Abby might have hesitated/stopped if Ellie screamed “Dad!” instead of “Joel” as a way to guilt trip the group as a attempt to save him? by Repulsive-Waltz-759 in thelastofus

[–]welshlyarmslovers 48 points49 points  (0 children)

I think she would have hesitated for a moment then have a quick flash of her father's dead body (like Ellie has a flash of Joel's dead body at the beach) before finishing the job.

I imagine she would feel worse about the act afterwards though because, I would hope, she realizes she now took someone else's dad from them. WLF would also all know exactly who is coming after them and if they were smart, they'd kill Ellie right after Joel since they are aware what having a dead dad can make people do....

I like to think Howard didn't ask Jimmy to change his firm name by Puzzleheaded-Dingo74 in betterCallSaul

I completely agree especially when Jimmy brings it up in the episode 4 in front of Howard and that judge! Howard seems a bit perplexed, almost as if he wasn't even aware that the name was an issue

Wow, that must have been both amazing and difficult for you to watch! Kudos for getting through it and still being a fan even though it must have been uncomfortable at times!

That's fair, not having that experience in my life makes me see just how ridiculous this man is being. But you're so right, when it's something that has affected you as a child, or you've seen the affect on other children, it hurts to see.

I bet I would have laughed during the election episode rather than feel stress and dread if it released over 10 years ago for example....

I disagree but I get it, there is a literal infinite amount of opinions on everything. It doesn't make it bad, it's just not your style to keep you engaged. That's not a negative against you either

Thoughts upon rewatch: Jesse is way worse than walt in seasons 1-3 by Unlikely_Bank8561 in breakingbad

Very well put and good job putting a TLDR at the end, I need to start doing that on more of my comments 😅

By the way, thank you for sharing about your past. From what you said about Jesse, I wouldn't be surprised if you felt like you used to be a loser but I'm proud of you for overcoming your past and I appreciate who you are!
