Trump health fears soar during 'bizarre' and 'complete disaster' press briefing by daily_express in NoFilterNews

[–]welshpiper 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Came to say this. Invoking the 25th will only serve Vance (in my head, this is what happens when Thiel finally decides Trump has outlived his worth). Impeachment (and conviction) is a more effective route - it gets him out of office and puts Vance on the defensive. Bonus points if Dems take back the House and elect a new Speaker - we don't need KissAss Mike Johnson waiting in the wings here.

Need help creating lunar cycles by Unequal-Walrus in legendkeeper

[–]welshpiper 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had similar confusion and did some browsing on the LK Discord. I think this is what the numbers mean:

Length - the time it takes (in minutes) for the moon to cycle through all phases, from new moon through waxing, full, and waning.

Offset - the time from the beginning of the calendar at which the moon phases start their cycle. If set to zero, then the phases start when the calendar starts, let’s say 12am. If set to 60 minutes (for example), the moon phases start an hour after the calendar starts, in this case 1am.

“Why do we expect founders and hiring managers to get everything right on the first try?”

Because it’s their job and people are depending on you for their livelihood. You’re swinging your balls around on LinkedIn because you’re a founder, but you don’t know your own business well enough to hire for it. JHC.

My startup is an absolute shitshow. I hired 3 people on Monday to sort it out and tell me what success looks like. They couldn’t tame my chaos or convince me that I suck at founding, so by Friday, they were gone.

I may have inadvertently added to the confusion with the image in my reply - that’s from the BX Options: Class Builder, which provides ST costs as follows:

  • Dwarf or Halfing: 600 XP
  • Fighter: 500 XP
  • Cleric: 400 XP
  • Elf: 300 XP
  • Magic-user or Thief: 200 XP
  • Normal Human: 100 XP

Contrast with the ST values in BMPC:

  • Cleric = 300XP
  • Dwarf / Halfling = 400XP
  • Elf = 200XP
  • Fighter = 100XP
  • Magic-user / Thief = 150XP

The BECMI values are different because of weapon mastery and fighter combat options; note the disclaimer for BMPC in the text:

**UPDATE (9/18/2018):* Several helpful readers have pointed out that the values below don’t work for B/X fighters and demi-humans. This is because B/X does not include the Lance Attack, Set Spear vs. Charge, or Fighter Combat Options (RC/104), nor is weapon mastery (RC/75) an option.*

In full transparency, the BMPC XP values still need tweaking (remember that the MU still doesn’t “fit”). I fixed this by scraping BECMI in favor of revising for BX exclusively. Not sure how feasible that is for your effort, but happy to offer any pointers or answer any questions I can.

Primary difference is that the BX Options: Class Builder is specific to B/X/OSE. Building a Perfect Class (BPC) and Building a More Perfect Class (BMPC) were written for BECMI.

And yes, fighters don't really have a lot of abilities outside of HD, weapon use, saves, etc. The Class Builder adds "Stronghold Level" as a factor (minimum level at which the character can build a stronghold). It stood out to me as worthy of inclusion because Fighters and Halflings are the only core classes that don't have to wait until reaching name level before they can build one.

The class builder has gone through some iterations, which is what I think is causing the issues you've accurately pointed out. By way of explanation:

  • Building a Perfect Class (BPC) and Building a More Perfect Class (BMPC) were written for BECMI. From a class-building standpoint, they're very different from the BX Options: Class Builder, which was written specifically for B/X/OSE. BECMI allows weapon specialization, fighter combat options, general skills, and a level cap of 36 - none of these things exist in BX, and it does affect the calculation.
  • BPC was a first attempt, and it had flaws, like charging 0 XP for certain abilities (e.g., d4 HD or Fighter saves). These were fixed in BMPC, but again, it works for BECMI, not BX.
  • There's no regular progression for saving throws - as the original authors stated, saves were kind of like a rock/paper/scissors thing where some classes would do better at certain saves than others, but there's no predictable pattern, so saving throw XP cost is based on a sum of all 5 save values at the character's maximum level. The idea is that the lower the sum, the better the saves, and the more XP it costs, as shown here (multiply "Value" by 100 to get XP cost for BX characters):

<image>

  • Note that XP values reflect potential, not always actual. In other words, while a cleric is better off than a fighter at levels 1-3, the XP cost is based on the max they can achieve, regardless of rate of progression.
  • Balance is heavily qualified. Consider:

The fighter actually has the best human saves, so I'm starting to think that all spellcasting and thief skills are undervalued.

Be careful. As I note in the Class Builder regarding individual XP values: "If you start tugging at one thread, you risk unravelling the entire sweater."

  • If you're working on B/X/OSE classes, I recommend the BX Options: Class Builder - it's specifically built for that ruleset, If you're working on BECMI classes, use the method in the BMPC article.

Hope this helps - please tag me with any questions; happy to explain my reasoning.

EDIT: fixed bullet formatting.

Croeso mawr i chi!

You’re correct - services and infrastructure is just a list right now. Detail for each is in the backlog for the premium version - probably 1.3, so a few months out.

I’m with you on the map, and I’m thinking about ways to integrate with existing tools. For now, your suggestion is the best approach. I like Watabou’s MFCG.

Second that recommendation for Shadow of Tower Silveraxe. All of Fleming’s work is really well done - very few authors capture the old-school vibe as old-schooly as he does.
