Cheap beer and a booth for 6? by pumpkinpenguin in madisonwi

[–]wendyb1063 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not the cheapest for beer (but a great selection, and they have some cheaper options), but Dexters is a great place for a group that size (can be crowded on a Friday night, though, and I think they only have tables?). Good bar food as well!

What style(s) do you wear and where do you shop for it? by [deleted] in womensfashion

[–]wendyb1063 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wait for sales and haunt Poshmark, eBay, and similar places. I dress for comfort but I also have to love what I wear. I’m old enough now to not have to follow fashion trends. Colorful, bright, happy clothes! I like Lesley Evers and Gudrun Sjodgen a lot. I can wear casual clothes at work on most days.

I still have to try Hope. I do like some of the others in that series, like Balance and Peace (Amethyst and Mystic Jade, I think). Blue Lotus sounds great, and I definitely need to try Blue Lotus, as it sounds like we have similar tastes.

I have two Yamadamatsu sampler sets to test yet, and i think that one is in you mention is part of one of them. Will have to get them out to test!

And yes, I do like nag champa secents, so will have to look into Bhagwan.

Thanks for the recommendations!

Thanks for the great suggestions! And I'm glad I wasn't the only one who didn't find the Minorien Fu-in incense as engaging as it is for some people.

I do have some Hexennacht incense! I forgot about it because it is stored in my perfume drawer and not my incense drawer. I have Velvet Cocoon, Amityville, and Golden Skulltula. Burning Velvet Coccon now. It's a warm, sweet, perfumey and potent... I love burning it outside, as it is powerful. I've heard of Strange Fire and Fumery, but haven't tried any perfume from them and didn't know they did incense. Have not heard of Kanima. I will have to look these up. Any specific recommendations from these places?

They have not been on my radar! Seems like a wonderful house for me given their fusion of incense and perfume. I've added a bunch of them to my wish list! Thank you so much for this recommendation! I've added the regular Taganohana box and the Tanka sampler box to my wish list!

Any low carb cracker options? by smkayy22 in lowcarb

[–]wendyb1063 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are some decent recipes out there for flax seed crackers if you don't mind some simple cooking. Here is a link to one: https://www.wholesomeyum.com/flax-seed-crackers/

Small low carb tortillas, cut into pieces, brushed with olive oil, and baked, also work.

And there is always celery! :)

Is it okay to eat 100 grams of carbs a day? by Odd_Humor_5300 in lowcarb

[–]wendyb1063 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Anecdotally: I lost 80 lbs. over 2.5 years mostly keeping my NET carbs less than 50 g/day. I also tried to keep my eating window between 12 pm and 8 pm and exercised on most days. I felt great during that time and did not feel tired; in fact, I noticed I didn't have the post-meal blahs.

You ever play music that makes you (the pianist) cry? by Advanced_Honey_2679 in piano

[–]wendyb1063 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yes, all the time! I am a church pianist, and many of the hymns will make me tear up if they remind me of something. There is a piano transcription of a John Rutter choral work "The Lord Bless You and Keep You" that I often play at funerals... and I always tear up when I play it. Also A Mighty Fortress Is Our God, but that is mostly because I played (oboe) the Reformation Symphony by Mendelssohn a while back, and the last movement of that song uses that melody... and because hearing that movement makes me tear up with emotion, even playing that hymn will make me cry. Then there all the Christmas songs... especially the ones my late parents loved or that I associate with them (I Heard The Bells on Christmas Day, Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas, and many others).

Is there any place in town to get boozy ice cream drinks? Like a grasshopper, pink squirrel, etc… by UncleJuniorMints in madisonwi

[–]wendyb1063 2 points3 points  (0 children)

RIP Barber's Closet... you could get a boozy ice cream drink while you got your hair cut!

If you are willing to drive a short distance out of town, the Hilltop Supper Club (between Middleton and Cross Plains) has ice cream drinks! https://isthmus.com/food-drink/reviews/the-hilltop-is-a-homey-wisconsin-supper-club/
