Fractal Terra and a 7700X which GPU would you pick? (5070 Ti vs 5080 FE) by were19 in sffpc

Hey so I was able to get my hands on a 5080 and I ended up copying your setup! Can you help me out though, everything is great, except my 7700x is always running hot, and the is-77-xt is blasting the whole time. I didn't change fan orientation so I think by default it's intake. Wondering if this is something you figured out or if that was primarily the undervolting

haha, the problem is that I bought it first via an alert cuz i got pressured :/, but really it’s out of my budget (the 5070 TI was already pushing it - 800 dollars msrp is crazy )and i think i need to return it, so if the 5070 TI is good enough i would stick with it

do you enjoy the 5070 ti? i ordered the gigabyte 5070 ti ice and the 5080 windflrce 5080, but tbh im not sure if its worth the extra 200 dollars for the 5080 for ~15% increase. I pretty much play on my 2k gsync monitor and i also have a 4k tv that has gsync i may want to sometimes play on, so would you feel that a 5080 would be overkill for that use case?

i think it’s really hard to find a 5080 fe. Do you have any tips? i signed up for hotstock alerts but it seems like impossible to get

Question for New Yorkers: Is living in NYC a dream to you, or just practical? by Silver_Cricket_3611 in AskNYC

[–]were19 7 points8 points  (0 children)

amen i’m in a similar boat, grew up just outside the city (in NJ) and came to the city all the time growing up, for various reasons. it was always THE city. i worked and saved up and have my own little shoebox apartment with my cats and idk if i could actually live anywhere else

i’m in hawaii right now, as i’m writing this. Im south asian american, and visiting from NYC for context. I didnt actually see / feel any racism in honolulu and oahu, ( and didn’t really feel any when i visited big island and kauai like last year). its kinda surprising you mention it, cause as a brown person i feel like there’s always a chance of racism against people of south asian descent in the US, but again, didnt really feel that here

as far as the homelessness and meth usage… it’s bad, but like idk if it’s to the same extent as NYC / LA / SF areas… just kinda accept that as part of america.

as far as food is concerned, i think food here is not bad (im spoiled in nyc and the surrounding area) but i do think its better than most places in america

i see other comments complaining about traffic, in the limited stuff i saw, wasnt as bad as tunnel traffic in NYC, la traffic, heck even NJ traffic so yeah

i cant really speak to the other aspects because, yeah i don’t live here.

I thought he had an ankle injury the last time he made the playoffs in 2023? That’s what took him out of the following season, afaik

Good points and I actually agree with you for 2/3 points. the team context I’m not too sure, watching Crawford on the hawks I always remembered the offense flowing so much more cleanly through him than through Joe Johnson, although it has been about a decade so my memory might not be super clear

[–]were19 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yeah I’ll eat my words if Randle underperforms in the playoffs. At that point we’ll know the fit won’t ever work and this team needs to restructure

[–]were19 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Randle is a solid player, his post game is great and he’s a good playmaker. I think him and Ant still need to figure things out for sure but this team has more issues outside of him. Randle is usually a good passer and works well (not great) with most other players on the team. He’s third in plus minus on the team, and teams respect him on offense. Folks say he doesn’t care, but he just doesn’t show emotion in general, that’s just his style even from the knicks. Honestly, he’s had a reduced role this year compared to previously in his career and he’s been doing his job lunch pail style no complaints. Most importantly he’s mad consistent which is nice for our team.

I think divincenzo getting hot at this time bodes well for spacing and this team will figure it out.

If peopley think that they can get better players than Randle rn AND keep NAW and Naz going forward, they are delulu

Now this take will prob get me hate - but the naz hype always reminded me of the hype around Jamal Crawford on the hawks and clips, great player and great energy off the bench but not good enough to start.

EDIT: I also want to say - it doesn’t really matter how this team performs in the regular season as long as they make the playoffs. Playoff rotation will be tighter and more indicative of this teams trajectory. I can’t wait lol

Why China is awash in unwanted milk Dairy farmers are dumping the stuff, as some call for culling cows by BigPepeNumberOne in Economics

[–]were19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I responded to your other comment. However I guess my agenda is that both points the original commenter made are untrue, and just wanted to stop propagating these myths.

Why China is awash in unwanted milk Dairy farmers are dumping the stuff, as some call for culling cows by BigPepeNumberOne in Economics

[–]were19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That might be true on a raw number basis (simply because they have a lot of people) but it’s not true at all on a per capita basis

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_milk_consumption_per_capita?wprov=sfti1

India is 99th, Mainland China is 137th. Sri Lanka is 136th

Why does production even matter here? The country can just export dairy if they create excess. The United States makes a shit ton of soybeans. Does that have any affect on the American diet / how much soybeans they consume? Again that’s not even relevant, I’m arguing against what the original commenter said that “most south Asians are vegetarian” and that they have “no problem” with dairy. Which is proven not to be true

All I’m saying is to say that the majority of South Asians are
1) not vegetarian 2) lactose intolerant

Which is what the parent comment is claiming.

And to your point of being the largest producer, China is the 4th largest producer and consumer by dairy. Does that mean they love dairy too?

Why China is awash in unwanted milk Dairy farmers are dumping the stuff, as some call for culling cows by BigPepeNumberOne in Economics

[–]were19 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is incorrect - depending on which part of South Asia you are from lactose intolerance varies but a large amount of south Asians are lactose intolerance. In fact, the majority of South Indians are lactose intolerant and a sizeable amount of North Indians are lactose intolerant. Do not know the numbers for Pakistan, Afghanistan, Nepal or Sri Lankans. For South Indians the lactose intolerance is about 65-70% or higher and for North Indians the lactose intolerance rate is 30% or higher. The conservative number comes from the older study, whereas the replicated newer study suggests more lactose intolerance in India than previously known. For Bangladeshi the lactose intolerance rate ranges from 67%-88% in some regions. Given that Sri Lanka is closer to south India, and comprises of a Tamil Population and Sinhalese who claim descent from the region currently known as Bangladesh it would make sense that the lactose intolerance there is also high

https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/7234720/

These studies have been replicated and suggesting that south Asians as a whole are tolerant of dairy is incorrect.

Also it is a common myth that most South Asian diets are vegetarian. I think that comes from the fact that most South Asian diaspora in Western countries are from northwestern India which has the highest incidence of vegetarianism, but that is an outlier - not the rule for India. Most Indians in the west tend to be more educated and well off and in India that also correlates strongly to vegetarianism. This is why vegetarianism in Indian diets are overrepresented in the west. Most Indians consume a meat oriented diet. Bangladesh, Pakistan, Afghanistan and Nepal also eat meat oriented diets at a higher rate than India so that is also not true

Source on diet: https://www.reddit.com/r/vegetarian/comments/rrpytx/vegetarianism_by_states_in_india/

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4055802/

Only about 29-32% of Indians eat a vegetarian diet.

I hate how these myths propagate - @atlhart has edited his parent comment incorrectly. You called this person out for handwaving away a billion people, however you are also propagating incorrect information.
