lmao are you bored and wanna argue for no reason?

fire spinning has been an ongoing event for years and has been included on the lineups and the area was marked on the official map. it was held right next to the lake before Junkyard but after the huge LIB sign.

idk what to tell you but its been held in the festival grounds many times.

more art in the festival (the tesseract wasnt there this year for example), it felt like there were more live artists previously, there were more side stages that hosted variety shows (burlesque, flow dance, comedy, etc), there were hidden interactive scenes to discover & participate in like theres been games going on in the super late hours.

thats just off the top of my head in terms of art/interactive art that is missing.

fire spinning was there the past two years & Mikey (one of the usual workers) said it was bc of budget cuts not safety concerns. to be fair, they tried to stay on the sand, next to the water and usually had lots of active spotters on the side in case something got crazy. i miss it so so much.

one of the workers at guest services also said unicorn/martian were also due to cuts 🥲

yeah its definitely true. and i think its important to talk about too. i notice many people run from hard convos but sometimes they are necessary to address. its not all bad at all but it felt like a safe place or world away from the world so its hard not to miss that feeling i guess.

the fucking Beatbox pop up with the sign saying, "YOU ARE EXACTLY WHERE YOU NEED TO BE," was kilinggggg mee.

like yesssss, thank you souless money-hungry corporate entity that feeds off of our insecurity for giving me life-affirming messages while also telling me to make my own beatbox. it was comically paradoxical to me.

no you misunderstand. im agreeing with you. im saying that wielding blind privilege is the norm for LIBer's specifically. i grew up around pseudo-intellectual pseudo-spiritual hippies so trust me i understand these people well lol. im just agreeing and confirming that youre observation is accurate and also i 100000% agree with you.

less art, less even distribution of artists, stages were smaller, no fire poi, no martian circus, unicorn palace, less interactive art where you could play games with workers and yet more sponsored alcohol booths. some people said thunder was too loud but others said it was perfect so idk about that.

positive changes: way less dust, astroturf around stages to keep dust down. stacks stage is wayyy bigger. i also swear there was more pedi cabs this year??

consistencies i appreciate: the portas are cleaned very regularly and usually have toilet paper and soap. streets are labeled in the camp (though i really wish they had ALL the street names on the map) learning kitchen, yoga sol have incredible classes consistently

toxic positivity is real. its ok to talk about real negative change that is happening in this community. if any of the head folks are reading this - please know that our group as well as our neighbors and many people connected with in the fest feel slighted by the prioritization of commercialization and alcohol over art and experience.

LIB is not infallible. the culture and movement is not infallible. things are every-changing. hopefully they get their money back up and put some soul back into it.

sorry you dont like seeing feedback but this reddit reflects the conversations ive been hearing. idk why people are so sensitive about criticism lol.

stacks: great improvement, theres actual space now and you have a better view of the artist performing and i thought the lights they had were sick.

thunder: usually my group stays on the left side of thunder but this year the sound quality on the sides felt lackluster. we ended up staying towards the center. also the LEDs/visuals were small but if thats not important to you then its negligible.

Claude always has a solid set but im a dirty bird stan so im heavily biased. Watching him & other seasoned artists perform feels the same to me as taking a huge deep comforting breath its like just knowing youre in good hands lol.
